What do you use to apply soap/ shower gel?

A body puff is difficult to rinse and doesn't seem hygienic, a flannel doesn't lather up, and using hands seems to waste the product.
I know it's a basic question, but what's the best way to apply for everyday?
I've heard of those kontjac sponges: are they any good?
Prefer something a bit exfoliative.

A body puff, love the way it lathers up. A good rise after and leave to air dry and change regularly.
Apply soap direct to skin.

I don't use shower gel, just a bar of soap. I use my hands. Although I have a massage sponge and use that on my arms and legs sometimes.

Muji's body "towels" are the perfect combination of puff and flannel, and are long enough to do your back. They sell good bath brushes too.

Hands. Don't like the thought of trying to clean myself with something that's been sitting out gathering stour.

ParadiseLaundry · 19/02/2021 13:27

A body puff. I don't really think just rubbing your underarms with shower gel removes anti perspirant effectively. I always hang it up to dry out though.

dementedpixie · 19/02/2021 13:27

I use a puff. Lathers up fine and the soap will clean it

dementedpixie · 19/02/2021 13:28

My puff hangs on a hook in the shower to dry

woodhill · 19/02/2021 13:30

Yes use a puff, shower gel goes further imo

PurpleFadesToGreen · 19/02/2021 13:31

Sponge with exfoliating scrubby bit on, shower version of a washing up scourer.

Scarby9 · 19/02/2021 13:31

Body puff cleans with the soap, rinses perfectly under the shower then air dries.

Shower gel leaves a film behind and isn't very effective at removing antiperspirant. That's why I always use soap.

redcandlelight · 19/02/2021 13:40

flannel.
lathers up fine imo

Oregano20 · 19/02/2021 13:40

I just use dove directly on my skin. But I used to like those exfoliating gloves and you can machine wash them

DidgeDoolittle · 19/02/2021 13:41

I use bar soap and my hands.
If you use those puff things they clean well in the washing machine. I used to throw them in with the towels

Itsokthanks · 19/02/2021 13:42

Soap with my hands. I don't use shower gel anymore.

lazylinguist · 19/02/2021 13:44

Hands. Soap doesn't need a puff to lather up - well, not in the soft water where I live, anyway. I used to use a puff when I used shower gel, because it made it lather and go much further, but I ditched the puff when I changed to bar soap.

Soap does though. It's also better at preventing smelly armpits in the first place. I just use a natural underarm deodorant bar now, not an anti-perspirant.

I go to ethnic beauty shops to buy sponges which are brilliant for exfoliating. My Nigerian colleague introduced me to this

veryveryquietly · 19/02/2021 18:40

Salux Japanese beauty towel. They're a bit firmer than the soft Muji ones, long enough that you can scrub and exfoliate your back and butt, lather up soap nicely, and easy to rinse after each shower and throw in the washer (but not the dryer) frequently to be extra sure of no germs/mold.

ElderMillennial · 20/02/2021 19:39

I just use my hands but if you use a puff they are cheap enough to replace regularly or maybe even put in the washing machine (not sure about that)?

ifitpleasesandsparkles · 20/02/2021 20:29

I used to use body puffs but gave up years ago. Seemed like a lot of plastic waste for how often I replaced them. They sort of lose their puffiness after a while.

Now I just use dove bar soaps and nothing else. Shampoo is eco warrior orange and ginger shampoo bar. It's the most compatible shampoo for my hair I've ever found. I hope they never stop making it!

The dove soap bars are very good at lathering so I don't miss using a body puff or sponge.

SuperbGorgonzola · 20/02/2021 20:31

Puff.

Interesting. I've actually never used a bar of soap as I thought it would dry my already very dry skin out and also I find the bars messy. I might actually give it a go.

Hands, bar of soap

OverByYer · 21/02/2021 20:28

I’ve just started using felted soap. Soap and wash cloth in one. And because felt is wool it’s hygienic

I think this is a bit of a common misconception actually. If you are used to using a very moisturising shower gel it might feel a bit odd using bar soap at first, because it doesn't leave that film on your skin, but I don't actually find bar soap any more drying than shower gel.
