What do you use to apply soap/ shower gel?

A body puff is difficult to rinse and doesn't seem hygienic, a flannel doesn't lather up, and using hands seems to waste the product.
I know it's a basic question, but what's the best way to apply for everyday?
I've heard of those kontjac sponges: are they any good?
Prefer something a bit exfoliative.

Bamboo mitt (I make them, super easy) and soap.
I really wish shower gel in plastic bottles would disappear.

@waterlego I have very dry sensitive skin and live in a hard water area, I like savon de marseille and faith in nature, have been using bar soap for years now and much prefer it to shower gel! And to answer the OP question - bar soap and hands, very occasionally exfoliating gloves that go in the washing machine between uses
