Why is it so hard to find a big bra that's comfy

duckling3 · 17/02/2021 11:44

I am so frustrated. Since having my baby my boobs have ballooned and I am now on the hunt for some well fitting bras in the larger cup size.

Is it just me, or is this so hard to do online.

I did an online bra fit with bravissimo so I know now what size I want, why can it not just be as easy as find a bra I like in my size and order it.

But no! Apparently every bra seems to fit different.

Order one, like the style but the cups are too small - go to order again in larger cup size but they don't do them that large.

Try again but the band is too tight, so order the larger size but they still don't fit right.

Now just ordered yet another one to try and the bra sits so high under my armpit it's uncomfortable.

I must have ordered well over £1000 worth of bras, which have pretty much all gone back because they become painful after a very short time so definitely can't be right. And the couple I have kept are a best of a bad bunch situation because I can't go bra free. They don't fit but at least aren't uncomfortable - but I now have the 4 boob look which is awful:

Any fellow larger sizes ladies.. where am I going wrong? Or do you have any bras you can recommend? I'm a 32h (ish depending on brand).

I'm so fed up; this bra search is taking months. I just want changing rooms to reopen so I can try on until I find something that fits instead of the constant order, wait, try, return, repeat.

I've started wearing non-wired ones a bit like sports bras. They are not pretty, but they're comfortable. I'm a 36E-F and wear an XL in their sizing and find them comfortable and sufficiently supportive. They do XXL and 3XL too. here

goose1964 · 17/02/2021 12:02

I get your pain. I've finally found one that actually fits 38H, but the wires dig into my armpits

duckling3 · 17/02/2021 12:23

@lazylinguist I tried some none wired ones, but anything in generic sizing, eg l, xl etc doesn't work well for me. I have to size up so they are big enough but then the back is larger so they don't offer enough support. perhaps I could find a non wired one that comes in standard bra sizing. I guess whilst we are on lockdown being a little less supported is fine.

@goose1964 the armpit to thing is so annoying, I find it so uncomfortable when it pokes under the arms.

Curvy kate luxe are comfy if you've big boobs.
It does make them front and central though, no minimising.

Amazon sell em.

BlibBlabBlob · 17/02/2021 12:36

Molke! Honestly you'll never look back. And if you're BF they're also perfect for that. (I never discovered them back when DD was small, sadly - they'd have made my life so much more pleasant if I had.)

molke.co.uk/

And don't worry about them not providing enough support, I'm a 28JJ with boobs that otherwise tickle my navel and they absolutely do the trick for me. Make sure you measure using the Boob or Bust method to get the right size first time, although if you'd have a Bravissimo fitting you're probably already in the right size. (If you'd had an M&S fitting I would definitely advise to remeasure as they are useless!)

I don't wear any other kind of bra now, except for a Panache sports bra for those rare times that I decide I should attempt to have a run. Can't bear the discomfort of a 'normal' bra anymore, after a couple of years exclusively in Molke bras.

duckling3 · 17/02/2021 13:12

Thanks for the recommendations. Have just ordered a couple of curvykate bras from Amazon, with added bonus with prime wardrobe you only pay for what you keep after 7 days so don't have upfront knowing I will return some if not all.

Not seen Molke before, the look super comfy.

I use m&s bra extenders [£5 for 3] which gets around the problem for me, of the bra being ok in the cup, but the bra being not long enough around the back.
Not the best fit in the world still[like others I cant stand wired bras or even the wire up the side panel], but good enough.Just.

This has to be the comfiest bra I have bought. I have large chest and this bra has a comfy cotton inner lining and a silky outside. Worth a go and a really good price.

tentative3 · 17/02/2021 13:34

Bravissimo millie bra, I have 5. From new they are comfortable for me, whereas all other bras have me ripping them off the second I get home until they're worn in.

millymae · 17/02/2021 13:54

I like the Bravissimo Milly bra too and the rather old fashioned looking Melrose which only comes in white, nude and black. They both fit me well and I think they make me look smaller than I actually am!

Cornetttttto · 17/02/2021 14:07

Molke. Molke. Molke. Molke. 32HH and wow - held up and comfy with no digging in, riding up or anything. Worth every penny, plus it's a small Scottish company and their customer service is excellent.

MaverickDanger · 17/02/2021 15:37

I’m struggling too! Breastfeeding and currently around a 34K. I’m currently just wearing crop tops from ASOS around the house and at night, and very uncomfortable nursing bras for when I go out!

Unfortunately I found Molke either too difficult to get on or too big in the larger size.

Can I ask what Molke size you are? I'm similar size to you and not sure if I have the optimum fit.
Musmerian · 17/02/2021 16:01

Prima donna Deauville. Most comfortable bra in the world. I’m 34H and it’s the only one I buy now. Expensive but absolutely worth it. My experience of Bravissimo fitting and bras was not great but Rigby and Peller sorted me out.

Sorry you're also feeling the pain! I spent the first 3 months in crop tops, partially in the hope they would shrink down to their regular size before I spent money are some well fitting 'proper' bras ! But I've had to come to terms now with my new figure.

Marks and Spencer's sumptuously soft . I'm 32 f and find them super comfy .

MaverickDanger · 17/02/2021 19:15

@huuuuunnnndderrricks I’m pretty sure they only go up to a G cup.

I think there needs to be more conversation around bra companies saying that they cater for larger sizes or all women, when they actually only go up to a G cup.

huuuuunnnndderrricks · 17/02/2021 19:18

Oh that's a shame , they are super comfy !

ThatLibraryMiss · 17/02/2021 19:42

Curvy Kate plunge styles fit me best, using the measuring technique from the Reddit A Bra That Fits.

Once you find the right bra and size, check eBay, Belle Lingerie and Brastop for sales. Previous year's colours and styles are often discounted.

TableNiner · 17/02/2021 20:11

The bigger the disproportion between back size and cup size the harder it seems to be. Personally I feel I need wires to help support the whole tottering structure and give shape. I like Panache Tango (not plunge) and Panache Envy, I’m 30FF.

QueenPaw · 17/02/2021 20:54

I find the elomi Matilda really comfy

duckling3 · 18/02/2021 11:07

I ordered the Millie bra from bravissimo after the recommendations. It's beautiful! Only thing is; the 32h is very snug around the band.. the 34gg is a bit comfier but only fits on the tightest setting.

Not sure whether to keep the 34 and it. Maybe not last so long if it stretches over time. Or keep the 32 and maybe by an extender..

Thanks for the recommendations 🙂

If your bra is hurting you it's the wrong size, it shouldn't be digging into you at all. Try the boob or bust group on Facebook and they will show you how to measure your boobs correctly. Also bravissimo are terrible with getting the correct size. I thought I was a 34dd and was constantly having boob spillage and pain where my bra wasn't fitting properly. Turns out I'm a 32ff.

duckling3 · 18/02/2021 14:59

I'm with you on the it shouldn't hurt. I've been trying them out today for some chunks of time to see if they are right or not.

So far so good for the 32h. Not perfect but definitely no pain after a few hours which is better than a lot of others I've tried 🙂

So many times I've thought I've found a good one, only for it to start hurting after a short time.

Prima Donna, Deauville. Pricy, but washes well and lasts. Once you have tried this you will never go back to anything else.
