Why is it so hard to find a big bra that's comfy

duckling3 · 17/02/2021 11:44

I am so frustrated. Since having my baby my boobs have ballooned and I am now on the hunt for some well fitting bras in the larger cup size.

Is it just me, or is this so hard to do online.

I did an online bra fit with bravissimo so I know now what size I want, why can it not just be as easy as find a bra I like in my size and order it.

But no! Apparently every bra seems to fit different.

Order one, like the style but the cups are too small - go to order again in larger cup size but they don't do them that large.

Try again but the band is too tight, so order the larger size but they still don't fit right.

Now just ordered yet another one to try and the bra sits so high under my armpit it's uncomfortable.

I must have ordered well over £1000 worth of bras, which have pretty much all gone back because they become painful after a very short time so definitely can't be right. And the couple I have kept are a best of a bad bunch situation because I can't go bra free. They don't fit but at least aren't uncomfortable - but I now have the 4 boob look which is awful:

Any fellow larger sizes ladies.. where am I going wrong? Or do you have any bras you can recommend? I'm a 32h (ish depending on brand).

I'm so fed up; this bra search is taking months. I just want changing rooms to reopen so I can try on until I find something that fits instead of the constant order, wait, try, return, repeat.

You absolutely need molke in your life. I wear nothing but nowadays.

WeeMadArthur · 24/02/2021 17:46

I tried Molke, 34GG, followed their sizing guide and ordered Medium Super and it rubbed me on my back just before it goes under my armpit. Not sure if I should get a different size but at £37 a pop I’m reluctant. I’m living in the M&S cotton DDplus secret support vests. They are great for about the house or when sleeping but I wouldn’t want to run for a bus with one on.

Nasta · 24/02/2021 18:00

I’m the same size and get all mine from Brastop- curvy Kate are my go to. Always check as 32h is always I. The best part of the sale items so I have never paid more than £12 a bra - also super easy to return (have Great swimwear options as well 👍🏼

Sazza75 · 24/02/2021 18:02

I have started wearing sports bras all the time. I have the M&S sports underwired bra for work then non wired for at the weekend or milling around.
The only gripe I have with M&S is that they can be hit and miss with their sizing so try a few. But so far once they are worn in, it feels brilliant and at last the twins are supported 🤣

I am a 32e and I really dislike padding. I go back to these time and time again.

catlovingbeth · 24/02/2021 18:34

@MaverickDanger have you tried Hotmilk for nursing bras? I found them great with big sizes too. The Temptation was my favourite. uk.hotmilklingerie.com/collections/temptation

supperlover · 24/02/2021 18:57

Anita non wired Jana cotton bras from Figleaves are very supportive and comfortable. Not particularly pretty but really comfortable.

Bertiebiscuit · 24/02/2021 19:22

When I decided to give up wearing a bra at Lockdown I realised that ALL bras are uncomfortable - and give me a sweat rash underneath my breasts - so I haven't worn a bra for a year - only a sports one for zumba - otherwise I wear a well fitting vest or a stretchy crop top - I'm not sure I'm ever going back - women are just expected to put up with discomfort to please others - for example high heels, tight clothes etc etc I've had enough and I'm not going to do it any more & I wish more women would join me - what is the point of a bra anyway unless you are jogging etc

altiara · 24/02/2021 19:49

I saw these recommended by mumsnetters once and bought a couple, really love them. They don’t do FF in the sizing though. They do a G. Mostly sold out but could be something to look out for. There are lightly padded cups and then material over the top so looks like a crop top, non wired.

I feel your pain, though I have now found the brand which suits me, Elomi. The problem is that breasts themselves aren’t just a size, they have different shapes, and different brands will work better for some rather than others. It really is a lot of trial and error to narrow the brands down, and then finding the most comfortable style within that, for example I avoid banded bras.

www.bratabase.com/knowledge/ A really good site, lots of stuff on there (you can look at boobs to see if any look like yours and find the best bra for them!). Good luck, the right bra is out there somewhere.

MySocalledLoaf · 24/02/2021 20:15

I was the same size after pregnancy. I found Freya amazing. But key for me was Reddit’s abrathatfits, using the calculator and following the shape recommendations. Since then even the cheapest bras are blissfully comfortable.

MapGirlExtraordinaire · 24/02/2021 20:17

I'm a 32/34 JJ, I grew a cup size or two after bf each child.

I am comfiest in Bravissimo Alana, I'm going to look up Millie on the recommendations here, also Molke.

Re the band being snug, it will loosen up, it really will. Never buy a bra which is comfy on the first wear, it loosens up and is useless from week 3 onwards

Mummabear89 · 24/02/2021 21:01

Anyone with breasts (even pancake breasts) need to try BoobOrBust. Most of the time we as ladies are wearing the wrong size bra which causes lots of issues. Trust me you will be glad to have found them. They have helped me find my unicorn bra during pregnancy and hopefully they can help me find my unicorn bra post partum.

Try Aubade. My DD has a tiny back but a D cup and they fit perfectly. (measure yourself correctly, don't try and downsize the cup size) They're expensive but it's 50% sale at the moment, and you'll feel like a million dollars!

DobbyTheHouseElk · 25/02/2021 07:21

I’ve been thinking about a Molke bra. Tell me, will I look like I’ve got a sausage roll strapped to my chest. Are they sweaty. Are they really supportive? I don’t understand how they work. I think I worked out I need a cosmic. I’m a 34 gg.

They are a bit expensive if they don’t work out.

Nobody2u · 25/02/2021 08:05

I don't know about you, but after having had my DC's I really was fed up with frumpy underwear! Get good quality pretty things, that make you feel good. You'd be amazed how good you feel just knowing your undies are stunning, even if only the lucky few get to see them! It's one of the only things you can control with a new born around. Time for makeup, hair styling etc is not always available, but nice undies can really boost your self esteem 😉

pinkflamingo112 · 25/02/2021 10:46

pour moi maddison bras are great as is their swimwear 34gg

MrsSpa · 18/03/2021 15:12

Hi, sorry to be late to the post but I have the exact same issue. Size 32GG. A couple of bras wore out recently and I did a fitting with Bravissimo via web chat but it just wasn’t the same and I was disappointed with the bras when they came. Once I went into the store (this was autumn when they were open) it was easy to see what styles I liked and keep trying things on. They give good fitting advice in my experience, but tricky to do virtually. Hope you find something that is good for you

LockdownIsDragging · 18/03/2021 15:36

Non essential shops open 12th April so I’m hoping that means bravissimo will open then. I just don’t think there is any good alternative to being able to try several on with someone on hand to check if they fit.

ConnieDobbs · 18/03/2021 15:47

I'm 30ff and have been wearing the same bra style for years - the panache tango. I can't be bothered to try to find another style that fits me as well.

I also have a few of the m&s dd+ bralettes which are OK with a looser top.

Insertdeadcatsnamehere · 18/03/2021 18:16

I'm a usually a 32g and just boight a 32f sports bra from asda for £9 which fits perfectly. They only go up to a g but seem generous in the cup so might be worth a try.

I didn't like molke at all. Such a pain to get on and off and the style meant 1 breast was more supported than the other.

WinterStrawbsAreLikeTurnip · 18/03/2021 18:26

Molke.

NameChange30 · 18/03/2021 18:31

I assume you're not breastfeeding?
I'm a very similar size (it's fluctuated because of pregnancy and breastfeeding) and I find that Bravissimo own brand bras are good because they're a bit more forgiving in the band, so if you're between 32 and 34, the 32 is comfortable. It is trial and error sadly as to which styles fit your shape best, and it's so much easier when you can physically go to bravissimo and try everything on!
If you're on Facebook you could join the Boob or Bust group and ask on there for recommendations. They do fitting advice too.
