Taking a deep breath and posting here.
Hoping to get (kind) advice..

I am mid 30s and this is my hair at the moment. Its very aging and I have no idea what to do with it.

I recently tried to do my 'colours' even buying one of those 'colour me beautiful' books. I'm still none the wiser what on earth will suit me.

Ive left my eyes and some skin tone in the photo to help you get a better idea, what you can't see is my cheeks have a rosy coloring most of the time.

In my 20s, I had everything from platinum blonde to jewel colour red, pink, brown, pixie cut, boy short, long... and everything in the way

But somehow in my 30s...after a hugely stressful and low few years, my appearance and general well being took a back seat..

I just got stuck and ive suddenly woke up looking frumpy and having absolutely no idea how to improve myself. I've tried everything to teach myself so now I'm being brave and turning to strangers who can hopefully give me a genuine insight.

Any kind advice on what you think might suit, would really be appreciated! I am open to anything.

Kind advice on how to achieve the look at home would be welcome too (whilst hairdressers closed obviously) - im not afraid of home dying (even if it goes wrong) or precious about my hair!

Taking a deep breath and thanking you all in advance!

I think your hair is lovely and not at all frumpy!

LunaNorth · 15/02/2021 11:24

It’s a lovely colour and length.

I’d just give it a deep conditioning treatment, either with a hair mask or just coconut oil.

JMAngel1 · 15/02/2021 11:30

Gorgeous green eyes, lovely warm skintone and beautiful contrast with golden light brown hair.
I would say you're a Spring.
I would keep your base colour the same as it's beautiful but add some golden blonde highlights - either a balayage or baby lights.

It sounds like you were very funky in your 20s so consider a choppy graduated lob or the height of style now is a mullet - see Sophie Floyd on YouTube. It would frame your eyes perfectly. But honestly, you don't look frumpy.

PaulHollywoodsLowHangingFruit · 15/02/2021 13:15

What is your actual real hair colour?

Looking at you I think you are an autumn and would suit rich chocolate brown hair

5128gap · 15/02/2021 15:33

You hair looks like its naturally more wavy than you have it styled? Have you tried encouraging the curl?
I think the colour is lovely with your eyes and would maximize the red if you're thinking of colouring it.
I have visions of you with loose coppery ringlets!

lazylinguist · 15/02/2021 15:41

I think your hair is lovely and not frumpy at all! It suits your colouring, and I'm pretty envious of its volume and wave! A messy bob would look good though.

Offthewallisaladder · 15/02/2021 15:49

Thank you so much for supportive and nice replies, really interesting suggestions - I cant describe my natural hair colour, so im adding a photo of my roots-

I cannot see myself objectively at all, so this is really helpful to me.

@5128gap - my hair isn't styled here at all. Its just what it looks like naturally. I wear it in a high, shoddy, awful ponytail almost everyday, and the above picture is it just taken down.

I dont do anything with it... I rarely even brush it Blush

@JMAngel1 thank you for your detailed post, I looked up Sophie ffloyd and I think she is beautiful! - except for me personally, I rarely do make up etc and wouldn't want to start, im happy without- but so I suppose I need hair that would still look nice with a natural face.

I really like the funky mullet suggestion and feel shes got a similar "vibe" to me (if any of this make sense) I like a little bit of edge and alternative style, but still want to it to be "pretty" and "feminine"

I was in an abusive relationship for a while and think this was a huge factor for me loosing my sense of me.

The suggestions are giving me some food for thought x

I think you look beautiful and your mane is indeed quite lovely.

You look grand as you are lass.

Atalune · 15/02/2021 16:05

I would kill for your hair.

Looks a bit dry but apart from that, gorgeous.

Your eyes are lovely too. Bit of mascara and some tight lining in bronzed dark brown. Gorgeous!

Kellen · 15/02/2021 18:20

I agree with others: you have gorgeous flaxen hair, lovely eyes and beautiful skin. I’d be tempted to leave alone until hairdressers are open. That said, I’m sure you could pull off a diy job, you’d look lovely whatever.

raffegiraffe · 15/02/2021 19:14

I think you look great too and would say you are an autumn. I think you would suit red in your hair. Cut it to collar bone length if you are bored of it

doadeer · 15/02/2021 19:15

Oh I like this colour! I think you'd suit it auburn but the softer kind rather than "red"

You look really attractive ❤️

LaMainDeFatima · 15/02/2021 19:23

Have a google of Audrey Fleurot? I think you'd suit her shade. Very striking

snowblower · 15/02/2021 19:25

You have a nice eye colour. Your hair looks a bit bland and washed out (as does mine right now). I would got for an Auburn collar length textured bob.

Offthewallisaladder · 15/02/2021 19:32

Oh wow, I honestly wasn't expecting such lovely replies. I want to cry at the kindness from you all. Thank you...

Thank you for guessing my "colour" too. I will read the book under autumn and see what is recommended for me, so far a few posters have guessed I am "autumn"

I have never been very good at this kind of thing so I was very vary of posting on style and beauty boards..

The colour of my hair is indeed a washed out none descriptive colour. It was actually died quite dark between the lockdowns - I was told by someone they didn't like it, which knocked my confidence back and made me more confused as what to do with it -

so I recently (a month or so ago) brought one of those colour stripping kits and the outcome was a few shades lighter, which is the colour you are seeing now, so its actually an accidental colour.

Just googled Audrey Fleurot, as PP suggested and her hair is very cooper! I dont know if I could pull that off?

I would go for caramel and gold highlights with a warm undertone when the hairdressers open again.

I love the thickness and texture of your hair. It’s lovely.

Whomever knocked your confidence is a twat and quite possible negging you cos they are in awe of your locks.

SummerHouse · 15/02/2021 19:41

You are a beaut with lovely hair. Accept it.

IndecentFeminist · 15/02/2021 19:43

Lovely hair. I'd say autumn instinctively.

Sadsiblingatsea · 15/02/2021 19:47

You’re an Autumn.

Sadsiblingatsea · 15/02/2021 19:50

Kettlewell Colours is a mail order company that sells clothes based on your ‘season’.
It’s a game changer if you’re a spring like me, and look best in clear bright colours that are so hard to find in shops.

HandforthParishCouncilClerk · 15/02/2021 19:53

You mention that you’ve been all colours and styles - which one made you happiest?
