Face moisturiser for the more elderly amongst us?

I'm hurtling towards 60 and after a lifetime of oily skin am now in possession of dry and a bit itchy skin that just can't get enough moisture. It's particularly irritating around my eyes/just below eyebrows

I don't have piles of cash to spend but are there any recommendations for something that will relieve the dryness/keep me comfortable for longer than a few hours. I'm not fussed about getting rid of wrinkles or looking younger and I stay out of the sun

Cetraben. You can get a massive 750ml bottle for about ten pounds in a pharmacy.

My skin sounds similar to yours plus it's sensitive to a lot of products so I use oil: almond oil, avocado oil or wheat germ oil are my favourites.

damekindness: Thank you for the post! I find that M&S skincare is proving beneficial especially the throat and neck cream. I did use No.7 but became so bored because it isnt scented. (I know why).

I second the cetraban. I’ve spent a fortune on things for my ultra sensitive skin, been prescribed steroids etc, but this stuff is very gentle!
If you are looking for a gentle lovely face cream, can’t recommend a company called ‘ecooking’ enough. Very natural and gentle and hasn’t aggravated my skin.
And Weleda is always a staple!!

Nivea So Soft

GorvidAl · 12/02/2021 22:44

Are you using any serum or oil? I’m late 40s and I need both as well as moisturiser.

princessTiasmum · 13/02/2021 16:25

Second Nivea soft.very cheap and sorted mine within a couple of days

HelloDaisy · 13/02/2021 16:31

I use facial oil from Rock Rose Beauty and have found it makes my skin feel amazing for the first time ever! I then put their moisturiser on top the morning routine and occasionally at night if it needs it.

I’m 54 and as my skin has transitioned from oily to dryish I find La Roche Posay and Avene products very good. I use the “riche” moisturisers and in summer the sunscreen range. Mid price and available in Boots.

goose1964 · 13/02/2021 17:16

I use this 2 or 3 times a week ,. Like you my skin has suddenly gone dry, but mine is uncomfortable rather than itchy. You use this as a mask, it says to wipe off excess but some parts of my face seem to absorb it. I'm currently using b. Moisturiser for 40s but I believe it may be being discontinued.

MsChatterbox · 13/02/2021 18:10

Nivea soft. My mum uses it (she's 61) and has great skin. I use it now too. My hands are very very dry and it softens them better than anything else (I use it on my face too and love it)

Scabetty · 14/02/2021 18:02

If I feel dry I use an oil - argan oil or squalene (I am mid 50s).

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 14/02/2021 18:45

Same age, and I use night cream or day cream with an spf. Round your eyes, ideally you would use an eye cream. Some creams are too heavy for around the eyes. Obviously if it made the situation worse, don't. Maybe think about a no 7 one to try?

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 14/02/2021 18:46

I should have added, some eye creams (I'm using an Aveda one that suggests this) are suggested for use under they eyebrows, and not just under the eye.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 14/02/2021 18:47

Under the eyebrows. Not they eyebrows.

ElspethFlashman · 14/02/2021 18:49

Nivea Soft or Cerave cream in the big tub with blue writing.

They're v v similar. Not much between them to be honest, but at a pinch the Cerave is a bit better in terms of deep moisture.

ElspethFlashman · 14/02/2021 18:51

My mother's skin got so dry that she used Vaseline at night!

She used the Boots Baby one as it was much softer than real Vaseline.

SpeckledyHen · 14/02/2021 19:00

Nivea soft by day and Nivea tin at night

Tehmina23 · 14/02/2021 21:49

My mum is 72, she uses Boots No7 Restore & Renew I think it's called.

nickyschof · 15/02/2021 05:43

Aldi Caviar day & night creams. Only £6.99 each. Smile

Jemimatheragdoll · 15/02/2021 07:43

I got this Pure moisturiser from M&S in a beauty box and thought it was one of the nicest moisturisers I’ve used for a long time & will definitely repeat buy. Great for the price.

I’m in my 50’s & also have dry skin.

Cornetttttto · 15/02/2021 08:49

I've been applying Garnier 7 Day Intense Moisture hand cream on my face before going to bed.

Beefcurtains79 · 15/02/2021 08:55

Egyptian magic on the face is great for really dry skin.

BikeRunSki · 15/02/2021 08:58

This sounds nuts, but Atrixo hand cream, on my face. Big yellow pot for about a fiver.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 15/02/2021 13:09
