Is this dress nice?

Or has lockdown done something to me?!

I keep looking at this dress! It’s so pretty (if a bit like something my mum might have worn in the 80s). I’d wear it with hiking boots, or knee high tan flat boots, or trainers / sandals in summer.

It’s not my usual style (don’t do floral, never shop in Joules...) and not at all necessary for my current homeschooling and home working indefinitely with regular forays into the snow / frost / mud lifestyle!

Someone tell me it’s horrible, please? Smile

It’s not my style but I can see someone tall and slim getting away with it worn with boots and leather jacket etc to give it a contrasting edge. I probably wouldn’t bother though.

@HomeSliceKnowsBest

Wait for the sale. Joules always have sales. Frump is massively underrated. I love my frumpy stuff and hate overtly sexy. We're all different.

Apart from one ill-advised suspenders belt I've never once bought anything 'overtly sexy' either. But I do like the clothes I wear outside the house to look really intentional.

The OP's dress would need Stella Tennant (RIP), styled by Vogue in £20k worth of tweed, fur and leather, wind blown on the crest of a Scottish hill, photographed by Tim Walker, to fulfil whatever potential it has.

It's grim. I thought the navy one was quite nice but up close I see the ducks. Does a grown woman need a duck print?

Unless you’re 6 foot tall and 8 stone you’ll look like Hyacinth Bucket’s sofa.

DenisetheMenace · 13/02/2021 11:22

Pretty fabric but it reminds me of the overall my gran wore to do the housework.

I have a winslet dress and the quality is amazing-nothing like Primark! However, I have lost weight and have stopped wearing it as it was looking frumpy on me. When it fitted, I felt lovely in it and had lots of compliments. I got it the sale for £30. They do have some in the sale.

Boden generally release several prints in this style.

It is fitted at the body so not as frumpy as the Joules one. It is also 100% cotton. Plus, comes in three lengths. There's usually a 20% off code floating about.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 13/02/2021 11:42

Love that Boden one.

Faith50 · 13/02/2021 12:18

I like and wear floral/print midi dresses, however I find this dress unflattering as it does not nip in at the waist. I also do not like the neckline. It is a no from me.

justanotherneighinparadise · 13/02/2021 12:21

I think it’s only looking nice because of the brand.

monicacat · 13/02/2021 12:23

Its a nice dress but the pattern is far too busy and I can't believe the price.

Sexnotgender · 13/02/2021 12:26

I think if you’re tall and willowy it could just about be ok. If you’re like me and not either of those things then I’d give it a miss.

Bluntness100 · 13/02/2021 12:29

It’s a bit Kate Middleton, anyone shorter, heavier, isn’t going to be able to carry it off without looking like they are going for the frumpy mum award.
