Is this dress nice?

Or has lockdown done something to me?!

I keep looking at this dress! It’s so pretty (if a bit like something my mum might have worn in the 80s). I’d wear it with hiking boots, or knee high tan flat boots, or trainers / sandals in summer.

It’s not my usual style (don’t do floral, never shop in Joules...) and not at all necessary for my current homeschooling and home working indefinitely with regular forays into the snow / frost / mud lifestyle!

Someone tell me it’s horrible, please? Smile

Really frumpy I think. Needs a lot more shape to it. Looks like it's just tied in the middle

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 12/02/2021 17:06

Whenever I see the word 'frumpy' on here, it makes me want to buy whatever item is being so described (even if I don't like it) and wear it to march around Waitrose shouting, "Fuck you, Mumsnet. I'm wearing it and NOBODY CARES."

Jackie2022 · 12/02/2021 17:11

Being completely honest, it’s not my thing but I don’t mind it. It would look much better if there was a uniform colour palette, ie pink and purple flowers as opposed to random clashing colours.

There’s 100s of similar dresses on the market, no point spending £80 on this one. Btw this dress WILL be reduced in the sales

No. Lockdown is affecting you. Step away now

ThatQuietOne · 12/02/2021 17:21

These are good answers. I think my heart is telling me that it would be twee and frumpy on me, it’s far from my usual style and I’m definitely not stylish enough to be able to make anything look good (I think I’m just clinging desperately to childhood memories of my mum in a dress baking cakes and taking us on days out and just living a normal life!!).
You’ve all just saved me £80 that I don’t really have Smile.

bellagogosdead · 12/02/2021 17:28

Yowsers that colour! It's painful.
For what it's worth I quite like the joules dress, I would have worn one like it 30 years ago, with my monkey boots and my purple hairGrin

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 12/02/2021 17:28

I only buy a few bits in Waitrose occasionally (not a real MNer), so you'll be more likely to see me shouting in Sainsbury's. Grin

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 12/02/2021 17:29

I actually think that M&S one could be okay with a leather jacket over it and heeled boots. Smile

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 12/02/2021 17:30

On 'somebody' although probably not on me.

Jellykat · 12/02/2021 17:38

Nooooooooooooooooooooo Remus not on anyone anywhere anytime Grin

Ooh yes - a lady vampire's nightie. I'd have worn that when I was 19 with DMs and pillar box red hair and thought I was the bee's knees.

Lamby225 · 12/02/2021 17:58

Seeing as you asked - sorry I think it’s frumpy.

Maireas · 12/02/2021 18:01

Joules is good quality, you'll look better than anything from Primark. Go for it.

Jellykat · 12/02/2021 18:11

Yes i can imagine it as a vampiras nighty!.... billowing behind her as she flies from house to house, merrily munching on all those she stumbles across. . while those that escape scream 'beware Vampira in the disgusting lipstick coloured nightgown' as they flee into the night!
.. or maybe i've just been watching too many boxsets Grin

StarlightLady · 13/02/2021 06:55

I like the neck, but not the alignment of the buttons. I’d like to wear it a little lower but undone to the next button would be too much.

The sleeves seem to be neither one thing or the other.

Overall, l think it is overpriced for what it is. But l wouldn’t totally dismiss it without a try on.

HomeSliceKnowsBest · 13/02/2021 08:20

Wait for the sale. Joules always have sales.
Frump is massively underrated. I love my frumpy stuff and hate overtly sexy. We're all different.

5128gap · 13/02/2021 08:59

It reminds me of my first sofa, and how furniture shamed i was when IKEA did that chuck out your chintz advert. Can't see past that.

KatherineJaneway · 13/02/2021 09:03

I'm not a fan but that's just because I'd look like an 80's sofa in it.

ParisJeTAime · 13/02/2021 09:06

I don't like it and I never shy away from Joules / Seasalt / M&S / other frumpy 'mumsy' shops, if I genuinely like something in there. Some of their things are nice. I don't think this dress is one of them, sorry.

Atalune · 13/02/2021 09:09

It’s the draw string waist with the shirt collar. It’s bad times.

theDudesmummy · 13/02/2021 09:19

On me it would look unbearably frumpy. If you are very tall and willowy then it could look ok. Although I love florals the pattern is rather insipid though.

Hazelnutlatteplease · 13/02/2021 09:51

Joules used to be good quality. Nowadays its poor quality same price
