I'm done with polyesters. Where will I shop now?

I just can't bear the static anymore (I've tried all the remedies. They don't work for me.) I've seen some nice pieces on Thought and People Tree, knits from Pure Collection and a few bits from Uniqlo, but where do you recommend for a natural fabric wardrobe? If love an every day jumpsuit some trousers. I've lots of woollens as I'm a cold creature at the best of times. TIA.

I'm going to follow this with interest because just this morning I was thinking about how my wardrobe has changed over the years to include more polyester. While it's improved somewhat, it's still hot the basic properties of polyester!

I've found I'm wearing a lot more tshirts now. Easy to get. Cheap too if necessary, although some (ridiculously) expensive options around too.

But I love fabrics and basically want to be in natural fabrics (other than linen which I really dislike unless it's a tablecloth).

alphaechokiwi · 30/01/2021 23:07

I'm wearing a lot of Toast at the moment. Beautiful fabrics, natural materials, excellent quality clothes. Pricey, but the clothes last for years. I wait for the sales and search eBay mostly. From the styling on the website I didn't think it would be for me but now most of my wardrobe staples come from there.

GrumpyHoonMain · 30/01/2021 23:10

H&M is my favourite. But I buy a surprisingly large amount of great quality cotton and vicose from asos too.

Barmbraic · 30/01/2021 23:12

Excellent, thanks, I'll have a look at Toast.

Agreed about linen. It's lovely in theory but a pain unless you live a very wafty lifestyle.

Xpost re h&m. I find the online very overwhelming. Maybe I need to try it again.

Whistles, reiss , m&s ? H&M if your careful and read descriptions

Wool lovers - does fantastic knits, cardigans ect

I've deleted the ASOS app as 90% is cheap shite

BangingOn · 30/01/2021 23:14

I agree re H&M, the best selection seems to be online. Arket and Cos are from the same company and also have good fabrics.

More and more I am finding myself going to Baukjen for their really good jersey pieces.

SoMuchToBits · 30/01/2021 23:19

I get a lot of my stuff (mainly tops) from Kettlewell. They have many items in a cotton/modal mix, and many more in viscose (which I'm not so keen on). Loads of different colours, something to suit everyone.

They are also a reasonably environmentally friendly company.

Barmbraic · 30/01/2021 23:21

Thanks some great ideas to have an online browse. Keep 'em coming please!

Barmbraic · 30/01/2021 23:56

Thanks for the Baukjen recommendation. I thought they were very Skandi architect in the way of Cos which would suit me if I was 8 inches taller and 3 stone lighter. I've found a few possibilities though.

I have done the same, partly due to environmental concerns and also polyester makes me sweat! I don’t go for any specific brands, instead l try to find websites that let you search by material and l exclude polyester and similar e.g. polyamide. But yeah ASOS, Boohoo and the like have too much polyester for me.

@SoMuchToBits what is their sizing like?

SoMuchToBits · 31/01/2021 07:58

Katy the tops are usually sized in S, M, L etc. I would usually wear a 12 in other brands and their M fits me fine.

dudsville · 31/01/2021 08:06

I'm the opposite in that my wardrobe has one polyester item. It's a waste and I'll never wear it, but it's so pretty!

I have a lot of toast but they do sell polyester. It's not primarily about the shop, I just read the fabric composition I'd everything before buying and i only buy cotton and wool, I know there are other nice fabrics out there but I'm happy with these.

SoMuchToBits · 31/01/2021 08:10

I also like Seasalt for natural fabrics. I bought a cotton skirt from there last summer.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 31/01/2021 08:39

Massimo Dutti. Zara’s not bad. Seasalt. Other Stories is Ok for natural fibres too.

carlywurly · 31/01/2021 08:53

Totally agree. Some shops offer a sea of polyester and acrylic and I won't wear either.
It's becoming increasingly difficult to find cotton, linen and silk, even in pricey stores.

saraclara · 31/01/2021 09:15

Another vote for Seasalt. I pretty much live in their stuff. Especially the sailor tops. Their cotton is so soft.

Maireas · 31/01/2021 09:29

Watching with interest as well. I'm in the same situation as @carlywurly.
I like Jigsaw, saw a lovely, pricey skirt... 100% polyester. I agree about Toast, good cotton trousers.

Izitso · 31/01/2021 10:16

Thanks for this thread, just what I need! I'm desperate to try some silk shirts/tops but can imagine they're a hassle to take care of - sore hands mean I can't iron much at all. I love the look of those Gillian Anderson wears in The Fall but I'm guessing they get dry cleaned for her! Not an option for me alas. Just checked out the Woolvers site and have chosen a couple of sweaters Smile

HerselfIndoors · 31/01/2021 10:37

The other H&M brands have some too - arket, other stories, weekday and monki. But they also do the polyester and acrylic so you have to search. eBay is also good as you can search by material, and find things from past seasons /years when shops weren’t so full of polyester.

My favourite when feeling flush is American vintage - again it’s not 100% natural fabrics but there are some really nice things. Also sometimes Plumo, but beware of things that look cool and edgy on models but make most normal women look bonkers.

It baffles me as we all know polyester is bad for the planet - why aren’t shops going in the opposite direction and embracing other options like bamboo, ramie, hemp etc?

I also hate it when I see a print or dress design I love and then find it’s bastarding polyester. Like a PP I have one polyester thing I couldn’t resist - a dress from Finery, via eBay - but haven’t worn it.

Maireas · 31/01/2021 10:41

All of Monki looked polyester yo me, and 90% of H&M. I suppose you have to trawl.
I can recommend Toast Gabi pull on cord trousers, cotton and machine washable. Slim fit, slight crop. On sale.

Giftwithpurchase · 31/01/2021 10:46

I live in a very hot climate and so have to wear natural fibres or I'm just a hot mess.. so the past few years have been a journey of discovery for me - I just tend to search by fabric and have found loads of new brands I wouldn't have bought from before. I complete agree with pp that it's not necessarily about one brand or price point. I don't have the luxury of the British high street but always found H&M and Cos to be very good when I lived in London, you have to search the website Smile

mizu · 31/01/2021 10:46

alphae another fan of TOAST items on eBay. Beautiful things for very often a fraction of the original price . I have collected over the years and have a whole wardrobe now.

Some Zara, Gap (mainly their denim) and I love Olive clothing too, used to have a shop in Cheltenham but think they are only on line now.

Tish008 · 31/01/2021 10:49

Celtic & co

LadyEloise · 31/01/2021 10:56

@Giftwithpurchase
What brands have you found good ?

PaulCostello at dunnesstores.ie
CarolynDonnellyThe Edit at dunnesstores.ie

Both are "brands" that use natural fabrics.
