Does “face yoga” work?

Just that really! Especially on marionette lines...

No of course not.

MoltonSilver · 23/01/2021 13:30

I beg to differ. If training the muscles on the rest of your body can change your shape (which there's no denying it can), I don't see why the muscles in your face should be any different.

MiddleClassMother · 23/01/2021 13:30

I believe it could cause more wrinkles, but maybe reduce sagging etc.

I'm not sure because working a muscle in your body makes it bigger. I wouldn't want to make anything in my face bigger. Also, if it really worked, wouldn't we all be doing it?
BigButtons · 23/01/2021 14:35

It does work yes. But it takes time.

Sunplanetearth8 · 23/01/2021 14:54

My face feels a bit saggy lately (thanks to constant Zooms for pointing it out to me) - I don’t think any lotion or potion is going to work on that!

My friend (56) swears by it. She's been doing a handful of exercises religiously along with her daily Kegels for years, and honest to God, looks in her early 40s.

All those doing fillers would disagree.

It does work, but you need to start early and be consistent.

Sunplanetearth8 · 23/01/2021 15:10

AdultHumanFemale that totally inspires me to give it a go!

Yes it works but most women cant be bothered doing full face exercises every single day. The face is full of muscles etc under the skin that will tighten and lift when exercised consistantly. Just like anywhere else on the body really. It can take months to see some changes but it will be happening.

Laburnam · 23/01/2021 15:42

I think it does I have started just one of the exercises for lifting lower part of the face, I do it many times a day and have noticed a difference. It’s been about a month now

Notanotherfreak · 23/01/2021 15:50

I’ve done it for years and it does work. I did it every day at first but now just do a less full on session daily/every other day and often when driving (only the ones where my eyes not scrunched up though 😂). I can really feel the muscles in my face when I do it & people do ask if I’ve had cheek fillers!

popularinthe80s · 23/01/2021 16:53

Ooh (she says, utilising her facial muscles) - could anyone share a link to any exercises?

I started doing face yoga in an attempt to fix deepening nasolabial lines. Unfortunately it seemed to make one side worse and one line is now much longer and deeper than the other and it makes my face look wonky!
I googled to see if anyone else had had the same issue, and I found articles stating that the repetitive facial movements used in face yoga just make wrinkles worse. A lot of dermatologists and plastic surgeons advise against it.

Well, they would, wouldn't they?

BigButtons · 23/01/2021 18:21

Side sleeping makes the NL lines worse- especially on your favoured side.. Try sleeping on your back.

BigButtons · 23/01/2021 18:22

Try face aerobics on you tube. Peta is very good a teaching proper form. You have to understand face anatomy and you have to do them properly or you won’t look great.

MoltonSilver · 23/01/2021 23:32

Eating well and working out really works but we're not all doing it, myself included.

Ohee · 24/01/2021 04:22

They definitely work- by lifting and filling out the cheeks a bit like filler (but it’s your own muscle) and hence reducing jowls too. Of course plastic surgeons hate them - exercises are free

ZaraW · 24/01/2021 05:42

I've been doing the Eva Fraserburgh exercises for years. Mainly to prevent jowls.

My NL folds have improved but they haven't worse. I've learned to live with them as I have no interest in fillers.

ZaraW · 24/01/2021 05:42

Thank you for tips.

Everyone I know exercises at the moment.

The point is exercising muscle only works if you keep exercising muscle!
