Can anyone help my melting face 😒

Hi,

Just that really.

I'm only 36, but over the past few months I've noticed my face is really starting to sag.

My nasal folds are getting really quite prominent and my once big and striking eyes, are now starting to melt downwards.

Feel like a sad, old candle ☹

Is there anything I can do?! I already use good quality serums and moisturiser and do facial massage....on and off.

I always used to be told how young I looked for my age, but the ageing process seems to have massively accelerated recently and quite honestly, it's really depressing.

Is it really just needles or surgery?..

TIA

facial exercises (underlying muscles) and radiofrequency treatment for collagen boost (non-invasive)

DameCelia · 20/01/2021 20:35

Or face yoga
Or Nu face
Or Rio
Or CACI
Or RF treatment
Lots of options @Malbecky

Malbecky · 20/01/2021 20:40

Thanks @mrwalkensir and @DameCelia.

I actually looked into CACI facials, but after watching a training video on YouTube, I was put off, as apparently you can't use if if you have active cancer, which really concerned me tbh.

Which facial exercises actually work? I've tried on and off for years, but sometimes I feel like I'm making it worse!

No creams are gonna fix that I'm afraid.

I had an upper lid blepharoplasty which is where they remove the excess skin on your eyelids. It cost 3k, had it done under local anaesthetic - was absolutely transformative. My eyes are back to looking huge, doe eyed and young. I inherited my hooded eyes from my dad and they really bothered me.

Regarding nasal folds- whack some filler in there- job done!

I'm sorry I cant suggest anything less invasive but honestly- creams, laser etc are not really going to cut the mustard when it comes to proper significant change. These two methods are going to make a massive difference.

Malbecky · 20/01/2021 22:30

@AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter, fillers directly in the lines? I thought that would take me into duck bill territory Confused I thought the most effective and flattering was in the cheekbones, to sort of scaffold things up.... but then I don't really know.

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 21/01/2021 09:08

No- its put into the creases, like this.
Of course you can have cheeks done, but you'll still have a sagging lower face

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 21/01/2021 09:09

Sorry, that sounded rude- didnt mean it to be!
I just meant, if you leave the lines and do your cheeks they will still be noticeable

mackvic4 · 21/01/2021 09:12

@Malbecky do you wear spf? even when it is not sunny?

Malbecky · 21/01/2021 09:31

@AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter, hmm ok. Is it a case by case thing then? I just didn't think they did that anymore, as it can look very unnatural and "done".

@mackvic4, I do and have done for about 15 years. Factor 30, but it's within my moisturiser. Maybe that's not as effective 🤔

I think the problem is just the structure of my face tbh. I have/had quite full cheeks, which used to be youthful, but I suppose it's a case of the bigger they are, the harder they fall 😑

I also have quite a small chin, so that's highlighting the "problem".

What do you mean? filler in the marionette lines is a huge thing - its one of the most popular places for filler

mackvic4 · 21/01/2021 09:36

@Malbecky yes spf is one of the most important thing for ageing. maybe try a factor50 stand alone one, but this is mostly preventative

Paddingtonthebear · 21/01/2021 09:41

Most dermatologists say facial exercises make it worse

“Gary Goldenberg, M.D., medical director of the Dermatology Faculty Practice at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, tells SELF you should take a pass on this trend. “This is a terrible idea and will only cause wrinkles,” he says. Here’s why: Repetitive muscle contractions cause your skin to wrinkle (think: the two lines that show up on your forehead from furrowing your brow or crows feet from narrowing your eyes). Regularly giving your facial muscles a “workout” will only speed up the process, increasing the chances you’ll get wrinkles sooner.”

Paddingtonthebear · 21/01/2021 09:43

SPF’s within moisturisers / make up are not as effective as an spf used on its own

Why would you get a duck bill from fillers in your nasal folds? That's lip fillers you're thinking of.

Typically, you get mid face fillers to put the structure back in, which in turn can improve your nasal folds. However, at 36, you can put filler straight into the folds and see a good improvement.

Creams, caci etc do fuck all. It's fillers and surgery. That's all we've got 😁 36 is nothing though. You wait til 46!!!!!!

poopyface · 21/01/2021 09:44

@AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter can you message me who you used for eye lift please I have exactly the same issue and am making plans to get them sorted in next two years - thank you.

Insomniacexpress · 21/01/2021 09:46

I’m the same age and noticed the same thing. It’s like it has hit overnight. I love skincare and have been religiously using retinols and spf for years. I think it has to be genetics for me. I’ve decided I’m going to get some work done when I hit 40 as a present to myself. I’ve been looking into a mini lift (bottom half of face and under chin).

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 21/01/2021 09:46

@poopyface
I PMed you

ServeTheServants · 21/01/2021 09:51

I am in exactly the same boat. The last year has been a real shock to the system in terms of ageing and how much my face has changed. I also feel like the condition of my hair has deteriorated massively.

I also plan to have surgery at 40. I need to do extensive research on exactly what that might entail, but I’d rather get the benefit of the surgery at a younger age, than wait until I’m much older and wish I’d done it sooner.

Malbecky · 21/01/2021 09:53

@AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter and @Popsy321, I have definitely heard that filler being directly injected into those lines can cause too much bulk in that area,, hence duck bill. I'm not thinking trout pout.

Ive not heard of this.
However, any type of filler done incorrectly can result in horrific results so I wouldn't say its limited to that area. Cheeks done badly can look bulging and misshapen, lips done badly - well we all know how those can turn out! etc etc

Didyousaynutella · 21/01/2021 10:07

Forehead Botox will lift the eyes/eyebrows a touch. I am 38 and just started and I look younger and fresher.
The lower half is more difficult. But lots of facial yoga, Jade rolling and maybe a tool such as the nu face could help.

EyesWithAFace · 21/01/2021 10:08

@AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter can you also message me who you used for your eye lift please, as it's something I'm considering, and good to have a recommendation. Thank you!

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 21/01/2021 10:12

@EyesWithAFace- PMed you.

If you look on realself website you can see lots of before and afters. Lid surgery has one of the highest satisfaction ratings because its such a simple easy procedure yet it makes such an enormous difference!

TheDaydreamBelievers · 21/01/2021 10:16

There are electric devices that work out the facial muscles without you pulling faces and therefore without causing wrinkles. Several prominent cosmetic dermatologists like this kind of device, but I have read that only specific ones work so Id look up what actual qualified professionals use.

I would get a consultation with a proper cosmetic derm if you can. I am wondering if fillers, radiofrequency, ultrasound, or threads might be the best answer.

Sounds like you are taking good care of your face with skincare, which will protect texture and reduce line formation, but cannot really reduce sagging.

I had it done in my early 40s and it's instant and fantastic results. I had it done once and it lasted for years. I know that's not typical but they (the nasal folds) just never really came back. Now, at 49, I'd need more mid face volume. Not cheeks per se, just mid face. Had a bit of filler last year but it didn't make a huge difference and it hurt like stink so I'm trying to embrace/ignore my melting face at the minute.

I've also had upper blaph surgery and it looks amazing. I had a great result but wouldn't recommend the surgeon for other reasons, so no reccies from me!
