Phillips Lumea reaction?

sparklefarts · 14/01/2021 18:11

I have the Lumea prestige and after the second use have bumps on my legs. They appeared the day after. Not everywhere just in a patch, I'm unsure if they are from the Lumea as they are really quite itchy.

Anyone had a reaction like this or are these just bites from something?

It's really tingly and sore 🤷‍♀️

I've just started using Lumea and haven't had any reactions despite using it in the highest setting.
Are the bumps just in one area? Couldn't be shingles could it?

EvelynBeatrice · 14/01/2021 23:29

It looks like folliculitis - infected hair follicles. I had a similar reaction and had to stop using my Lumea a couple of years ago. Pity as really worked on me and had very little leg hair left. However I got such bad folliculitis on my legs that I looked like I had chicken pox. Was off on sun holiday a few days later and had to spend a fortune on private GP and antibiotic cream prescription and keep my legs covered in the heat.

EvelynBeatrice · 14/01/2021 23:32

I know it was the Lumea because I tried it again a few months later on my inner thigh after using disinfectant on leg and brand new detol wiped razor first. Same thing happened so that was it for me. Strange - never had a reaction to anything else before or since.

EvelynBeatrice · 14/01/2021 23:35

Sorry was steroid, not antibiotic cream.

sparklefarts · 15/01/2021 07:08

When I googled folliculitis came up but as it is in one place I'm just not sure 🤷‍♀️

I did panic about shingles but I don't think it's sore enough for that

I’m afraid I started with couple spots - developed far more. Horribly itchy. Weirdly arms where I’d also used it absolutely fine. Laser etc just doesn’t work for some people.

EileenGC · 16/01/2021 10:28

I got the same reaction as you OP. Weirdly only from the knees down. My legs were so much more swollen and red than yours Sad

Face, underarms and stomach, no issues whatsoever. I stopped the treatment for my legs in July and I want to start again next week after a 6 month break. I also haven't shaved since November so I'm hoping my legs are as 'healed' as possible now. Will only shave every 2 weeks when I need to do a Lumea treatment. Hopefully by doing this in winter and avoiding extra shaving in between treatments, I won't get those reactions again.

takeabrolly · 16/01/2021 10:33

After my first treatment I had a small patch of raised itchy spots near my ankle. They went after a couple of days and I've just done my second treatment and have had no trouble this time.

sparklefarts · 16/01/2021 14:59

Thanks for all the replies.

I'm going to be so gutted if I can't use it.
I have PCOS and want it to work on my face so badly.

I get loads and loads of ingrown hairs on my hairs so was hoping this would solve that.

They are less bumpy but still there. I used a slightly blunt razor for the pre laser shave and am hoping it has something to do with that. Next treatment is due next week, will see how that patch it and will leave that bit f needs be

I have a Lumea and have this reaction on my legs too, but only on my legs - not face, bikini, underarm, arms.

The Lumea works so well for me, I was unwilling to just give it up. After some testing I've found it doesn't occur if I exfoliate and shave my legs the day before I intend to use the Lumea. I moisturise as normal and then use the Lumea the next morning. For extra safety, I use witch Hazel on my legs before heading to bed that night.

Might seem like a lot of faff, but I love the impact the Lumea has had on my hair growth & think it is totally worth it.

sparklefarts · 16/01/2021 15:46

Thank you! Am willing to do a bit of faff if it works

I had that type of reaction on my legs when I first used it. Was sore and very itchy. I took an antihistamine which helped a bit

Obviously by the time the next treatment was due, the bumps/rash had gone but it flared up every time I used it when I was new to it.

After a few treatments, it stopped. I've now been using it for 18 months (top up treatment every 6 weeks) and I have no reaction and hair free legs.

sparklefarts · 16/01/2021 18:21

Ah that's excellent, glad the reactions stopped for you

I personally wouldn’t persevere with anything that gave me that reaction - just my opinion. Hope it disappears soon OP.

Hotmess1 · 19/01/2021 20:53

I had the exact same reaction on my shins! Soooo itchy but slapped loads of e45 on and the itching stopped. The bumps went down after a few days. I carried on with the treatment 2 weeks after and had the same reaction. I didn’t get it on the third treatment though and persevered and I’m so glad I did - the difference the lumea has made to my leg hairs is out of this world, I’d say 80-85% reduction in hair regrowth (dark hair pale skin FYI)

sparklefarts · 21/01/2021 11:59

Thank you! Rash gone and I am going to try again this weekend

Okay now I want a Lumea! I have very fair skin and very dark hair and it grows super fast too, much to my annoyance. Worth the cost then? I'd want to use it on my legs and chin. How many uses until you started to see good results would you say?

100% worth the price - I just have the basic model and got it a few years back. The hair on my legs was so coarse, I could shave it in the evening and by the time I woke up the next morning they would be prickly. But then it would irritate me if i tried to shave them again, so annoying. I’ve only used it on my legs and underarms but would really really recommend it - takes me about 15 mins to do both full legs as maintenance so I just do it while I’m watching telly. The few hairs that do grow back are so much finer I can shave them if I need to without any irritation.
CarlottaValdez · 21/01/2021 19:36

Mine works amazingly on my legs but has done nothing for my chin and tash

megletthesecond · 21/01/2021 20:20

I had the same after my second lumea treatment. I'm hoping it was just because I had it on level 5, it only happened on a few patches on my legs though. I'm going to go gentle with level 3 on my next session.
I also get awful ingrowing hairs so lumea is my last chance.

terriblyangryattimes · 21/01/2021 23:40

@hotmess1 thank you for that- even more sold on the idea now as even if I epilate my legs they're stubble again in 12 hours. '4 weeks silky legs' my arse!

I have awful chin hair. I've been plucking it but I have unsightly spots and bumps from the hairs. I'm about to use my Lumea for the third time and I can see a difference already. After the first use the hairs came back as usual. If anything they seemed worse as I had to shave before using the Lumea so I felt really stubbly. The next two weeks prior to the second treatment I had to shave every other day. Since my second treatment I've had a few come through but they are finer and there's a huge reduction in hair. If I run my hand over my chin I can feel slight bumps where I've had the odd spot in the past, but no hair. It's amazing! Third treatment tomorrow.
Rainydays200 · 22/01/2021 20:48

It seemed to take forever for the lumea to work on my chin hair. But it did work eventually which was such a relief. I was constantly worrying about going out somewhere and not realising that a chin hair had sprung up overnight.
With my upper lip it literally only took 2 goes and they were gone.
