Can I wear a man's jumper?

I'm a size 14 and want a chunky warm jumper Cnut struggling. Found this nice fat face one but not keen on the pink and blue not in my size.
Found an m and s one but I know I won't look cute in man's jumper but maybe a bit odd....I think the funnel will suit me better than a round neck but I now want this one I can't have. I'm cold WFH but hate wearing just hoodies.

Can I wear a man's jumper?

I only buy men’s jumpers from Uniqlo as they cling less and the arms are longer. (I buy women’s jumpers from other places where they do longer sleeve lengths)

ShrikeAttack · 06/01/2021 14:53

No. Your tits will shrivel up and fall off in response.

ClinkyMonkey · 06/01/2021 15:10

Any man in particular?GrinGrin

Not too sure about sweaters, but I sometimes buy men's hoodies for myself as they cover my bum better, but I do find the sleeves a bit on the long side even though, according to my mother, I have arms like an orangutan (as discovered when knitting the apparently never ending sleeves of my jumpers!)

Fairyliz · 06/01/2021 16:40

Yes I buy men’s lambswool jumpers from M and S, they are warmer and better quality than the women’s.
I’m a size 12 in women’s and buy a size small in men’s.
I find the arms fine with the cuffs turned back and I have short arms. They are usually quite long but I like that to keep my bottom warm.

Whatwouldnanado · 06/01/2021 17:59

Yes, so often better colours and comfort than ladies. I am 8/10, 5'2" and buy small or medium. Favourites are Uniqlo merino and M&S cotton and cashmere. Husband is a M so often pinch his.

purplecorkheart · 06/01/2021 18:08

Yes my local department store sell very similar style jumpers in the men's and women's section. The only difference is the colour, size and price. Men's are a good bit cheaper.

SoupnSalads · 06/01/2021 19:40

I have wondered this, I have broad shoulders and long arms, so am going to seriously look into it! I wonder how you know the sizing to go for. Probably go the same e.g. if you are M go for M.

purplecorkheart · 06/01/2021 20:20

I know my size in a few chain stores. I use their size guides online to get my actual measurement of the size I wear and went from there.

Feedingthebirds1 · 06/01/2021 20:44

Have you looked at this one OP?

VinylDetective · 06/01/2021 23:44

I’m wearing a men’s cashmere sweater right now. It’s my favourite.

AcornAutumn · 07/01/2021 01:50

Sorry OP

My first thought was "only if you ask his permission first". 😂

NoNarniaBecauseLipstick · 07/01/2021 07:27

I wear Uniqlo merino men’s jumpers every day at present.

  • I like that they’re quite thin so you can layer them if you want to.
  • Colours are better... I don’t want dirty pink just because I’m female. I want chocolate brown.
  • Sleeves are maybe a little too long but the body isn’t. I’m tall with broad shoulders.
Backbee · 07/01/2021 07:28

Yes, the sizing and fit can be different though, but should be fine for an oversized jumper!

Ginfordinner · 07/01/2021 07:30

@MoltonSilver

Of course you can. The quality and price are often better than in the women's section. The only downside is that the arms might be a bit long.
In my case the upside is that the arms are long enough Grin
BikeRunSki · 07/01/2021 07:35

I’m a chunky 16, I wear men’s jumpers a lot. Often better made, cheaper, more colours.

But - have you checked John Lewis, Next and Tu (Sainsbury’s) for the FatFace jumper? They all stock some FatFace stuff too.

Greenandcabbagelooking · 07/01/2021 07:43

As long as you ask the man first to see if he minds you wearing his jumper!

DuzzyFuck · 07/01/2021 07:45

I wear DP's jumpers regularly, both at home and out. Go for it.

Whatwouldscullydo · 07/01/2021 07:48

Yes go for it

Dd1 wears "mens" hoodies. My next ones will be. I'm.long in the body with short legs and im sick of womens tops wigich constantly barely reach the top of my jeans. Mens ones are longer. As soon as I am able too I will be investing

Whiskysoda · 07/01/2021 08:03

I often pull on one of my Dh’s sweaters, and he’s a big man! I just roll the sleeves up and luxuriate in a snuggly, over-sized cuddle jumper.

Why do you think you need permission? Wear whatever you want, channel your inner Grayson Perry.

lazylinguist · 07/01/2021 08:25

I've started buying jumpers in the TKMaxx men's section. Better range of colours and less crappy acrylic than in the women's section. And often cheaper for better quality wool as well. I quite like the slightly longer sleeves.

MarmiteyCrumpets · 07/01/2021 08:36

I buy from the men's, women's, girls' or boys' sections - whatever fits, looks good and is practical.

My swimsuit is a mix of boys' board shorts (couldn't find women's ones online) and a women's rashie.

I loooove men's Ts and polos and pretty well wear them exclusively.

And I've yet to find a good pair of women's flannel pj pants.

At this point in my life I am way beyond giving a stuff what anyone things of my sartorial choices Grin

PawPawNoodle · 07/01/2021 08:37

I wear large mens jumpers most of the time rather than womens, however I push the sleeves up on everything so their length doesn't bother me. I don't tend to have problems with my breasts not being accommodated.

TonMoulin · 07/01/2021 08:40

Same here.
I regularly wear men’s jumpers. One of the thing I love about them is that they are longer compare to women who often just stop just le low the belt rather than mid hips.

WithIcePlease · 07/01/2021 08:49

I've bought men's jackets for dog walking. Wanted a thin cheap summer one. Women apparently don't need pockets. Men do, with zips on and on the inside 🙄

Fieldofyellowflowers · 07/01/2021 08:52

I have bought a few items of men's clothing in the past. No one has realised unless I told them.
