Lip moisturiser recommendations

Can anyone please give a good recommendation for lip balm/scrub moisturiser for extremely dry lips? My lips are dry and have hyperpigmentation (I am of South Asian origin) and I ideally want something that will help address both issues but I imagine I need to address the dryness before I try sort pigmentation. It is so bad that lipstick just looks awful rather than enhancing any features

I drink lots of water and have been using Burts bees overnight intensive moisturiser but not noticed any difference at all.

Blistex 👄

Fattoushka · 30/12/2020 17:06

I like the lush lip scrub

KirstenBlest · 30/12/2020 17:13

Blistex for when they are very dry and flaky.
Some lip balm are drying, and some too harsh for regular use.
I find tinted chap stick good.

Salicylic acid ones shouldn't be used all the time but good once in a while. I think carmex is one, but check the ingredients.

I didn't like the burt's bees one but that might be because it was flavoured. The tint in the tinted one is good.
I'm not keen on the nivea ones or the bargain-type ones..

Lansinoh nipple cream is amazing for any dry/chapped skin. You can buy basically the same stuff branded for lips (Lanolips, Dr Lipp etc) but basic Lansinoh is cheaper.

Everley · 30/12/2020 17:22

I like lip scrubs from Lush.

Lip balm wise the best I have found for extremely cracked or dry lips is Lysine from Holland & Barratt. Not specifically a lip balm but used for cold sores and feels like a lip balm when applied. I have very dry lips and the corners crack and bleed often. This is the only thing that helps.

riddles26 · 30/12/2020 17:28

Thank you all.

Any specific Blistex product from those who recommended Blistex?
I hopefully have some Lansinoh from couple of years back so will definitely give that a try too, thank you

With the lip scrubs, do you apply them at night?

The tube one.

Everley · 30/12/2020 19:17

I use my lip scrub on a morning when I cleanse my face. Then put some lip balm on after.

Ginfordinner · 30/12/2020 19:18

Another vote for Blistex in a tube.

The only thing that has worked for me when I’ve had really badly cracked , sore or sun burnt lips is paw paw balm from Australia. It’s red or sometimes yellow tube and can now be found in Boots . I used to import it ! It’s good for bites , cuts , splinters too and is meant to be basically the same as expensive 8hr cream . You won’t go back to any tint else !

KirstenBlest · 30/12/2020 19:50

They sell the paw paw balm in tk maxx . I bought some but not used it yet.

Gwenhwyfar · 30/12/2020 20:25

Carmex. Better than Blistex.

riddles26 · 30/12/2020 20:59

Thanks all, seems Blistex is favourite for majority but will be giving them all a try

Lush do a lip exfoilator which I've been using for years and years, it's great.

For lip balms, I think anything will really do, I think it's mostly about the frequency of application. I apply very very frequently over the winter months to keep my lips reasonably in check otherwise they're so dry and chapped. Basically as soon as I can feel my lips no longer feeling slathered, I reapply! I mostly use various Nivea roll ons, or Burts Bees, or Body Shop lip balms/lip butters.

StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind · 30/12/2020 21:32

I've been using Carmex lately and find it works really quickly- if I use it at night by morning my lips are really soft.

TenaciousP · 30/12/2020 21:39

I second Carmex - it's the only one that works for me.

baubled · 30/12/2020 22:45

Carmex, arrives next day on prime and within a day mine were so much better!

I keep loosing the pot in different coat pockets and I can really tell the difference from when I'm using it consistently and when I'm not

FirsAndFairylights · 30/12/2020 22:47

Hasn’t blistex in the metal tube disappeared? That was my only saviour for awful dry lips and open corners

phoolani · 30/12/2020 23:13

Shiseido Benefience. Stupid expensive for a lip balm but I stick it on liberally at night before bed and I don’t need balm during the day even in winter - and I used to have a real cracked lip problem

Gogreengoblin · 30/12/2020 23:20

I'd agree with this
Icanseewhyichangednyusername · 30/12/2020 23:28

Also try switching to a natural toothpaste ..... certain branded toothpastes feel like they strip my lips even if I rinse with water afterwards

User9574 · 30/12/2020 23:47

Another vote for Dr Lipp. Got some in a beauty box. Fab. Better than Vaseline. I looked it up and its derived from lanolin which is the oil secreted from the sebaceous glands of wool bearing animals. Any lanolin based one would be good.

For nice lips I put some on, let it soak, then go over my lips with an electric toothbrush. Probably a terrible idea but I am sure I read it in a girls magazine when I was about 15 and it stuck.

frustrationcentral · 31/12/2020 00:28

I like the paw paw tinted ones, you can get them in Home Bargains and the tubes are huge. Also big fan of carmex, used to like the blistex tube but think it's been discontinued Sad

MrsKingfisher · 31/12/2020 02:45

Nuxe reve de miel is great, pot lasts ages I have them all over the place I'm never without it.

1vandal2 · 31/12/2020 03:06

No7 protect and perfect lip care. Only a very light vanilla scent and very rich
