I’m so sick of wasting money on crap that does nothing! My skin is not the best i still want to take care of it and would prefer not to waste money on lots of cheap bits for them to be thrown away. Any cheap buys that you think are amazing for skin care particularly moistures? Thanks in advance Grin

The Avon Anew range has left my skin the softest it has ever been. It's around £12 a pot.

Ginmaker · 30/12/2020 05:11

@MarkRuffaloCrumble

I buy Boots cucumber moisturiser for £1.50 a pot. They usually have a 3 for 2 offer on too! I’m 46 and have been mistaken for late 20s by my friend’s DD Grin and horrifyingly mistaken for my DS’s wife last week BlushGrin so it obviously does the trick!

I’ve also recently bought an Olay Regenerist night cream which was £20 - extortionate for me, but got great reviews. It does feel really smooth the next day, but at the moment I don’t really see anyone so can’t comment if anyone has noticed!

Absolutely this. It's amazing. Me and DH both use it. A pot lasts an eternity and both of us (late 40s) get complimented on our skin.

We are in NZ and get visitors to bring the three for 2 offers. Thank god we stockpiled!

La Roche Posay spf 50 underneath for NZ sun works a treat too.

Fluffycloudland77 · 30/12/2020 08:51

Moisturisers just an emulsion if glycerin/water or mineral oil/water, it will temporarily improve moisture levels but it won’t do anything for aging.

You could try a led red light mask to increase collagen levels but a tretonoin or a retinol will slow collagen degradation down iirc.

I don’t use a moisturiser and I’m still getting asked for id to buy alcohol at 43.

LightOfAThousandStars · 01/01/2021 11:45

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel Cream, it's very similar to the Clinique moisturiser and fragrance free as well. The Hyaluronic Acid really helps with dehydration.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 01/01/2021 12:13

What works for my skin (I'm 54) is not to overload it and to give things a chance to work -unless I have a reaction to it though my skin is pretty bombproof.

I use a Konjac sponge in the shower , sometimes with a cleanser/cleansing bar , often plain.
I rarely wear make-up (not because I'm too lazy or too gorgeous Grin ) .But if I do I use a balm ( BodyShop Camomile or Primark Balm-to-Oil ) with a muslin cloth

For the past couple of years I've used Superdrug Optimum (grey one) but I think it's discontinued . I bought loads on BOGOF .
I'm using a few pieces from the H&B Advent . The cleansing bar and the VitC eyecream , which is working well.

So really works out to gentle daily exfolliant , water on my skin and a light moisturiser to seal in the water .
But I have good genes , never smoked , no alcohol, not a sun worshipper , which puts me in good stead .

I've been looking for something new for a while so on the strength of this thread I've ordered the Boots cucumber moisturiser. They are doing 3 for 2 so I got 3 as it is so cheap. I'll use it up as body cream if it doesn't suit.

HaHaVeryBunny · 01/01/2021 13:51

Nivea in the blue tin and Astral in the blue tub.

AngusThermopyle · 01/01/2021 14:01

This stuff is amazing.

WrinklesShminkles · 01/01/2021 19:04

What AngusThermopyle said. The Neutrogena Comfort Balm is cheap, comes in a huge pot and makes my skin so happy Grin

PusheenLove · 02/01/2021 13:02

@BananaHammock23

is this it? www.aldi.co.uk/lacura-moisture-boost/p/020137309113300

Looks discontinued. Damn.

@ThatLibraryMiss do you find layering like that causes your makeup to pile?

@Ginmaker @MarkRuffaloCrumble I was excited about the Boots cucumber cream until I read it contains alcohol quite high up in the ingredients list. You must just have good genes ;)

@AngusThermopyle @WrinklesShminkles Do you use the Nivea on your face?

WrinklesShminkles · 02/01/2021 13:21

@PusheenLove Yes, I can even use it around my eyes. Instantly soothing - I sometimes use it almost like a serum.

maybemove · 02/01/2021 13:24

Embyolisse lait-creme is just fantastic.

AngusThermopyle · 02/01/2021 14:32

@PusheenLove

I don't use Nivea, but i do use the nutrogena comfort balm on my face and body. I used to suffer with incredibly dry flaky 'winter' skin every year, but not anymore.

motleymop · 02/01/2021 14:41

@PusheenLove I was disappointed to read your comment about the alcohol in the Boots cream so I took a look myself and it's Cetearyl alcohol which is not the same as just plain alcohol (or alcohol denat) - so I'll definitely be giving it a whirl on the back of this thread!!

Gogreengoblin · 02/01/2021 14:46

MooGoo full cream moisturiser.
Not 'cheap' at £12 but a massive tube that lasts me more than 6 months used on my face.
No petrochemicals or nasty fillers in it.
Now available in Holland and barratt.
I've been using it for probably 5 years now and it's a great every day moisturiser!

TheVanguardSix · 02/01/2021 14:56

This is the bomb. It's rich, cheap, and wonderful. La Roche Posay Cicaplast Baume which you can use on the face and body. I swear by it.
tinyurl.com/yd8fs2s6

I use this year-round. Piz Buin Allergy sensitive skin face SPF. It is beautiful, the best I've ever used and I've tried them all. Goes on beautifully and smells so fresh. I've used it for about 3-4 years now. I'm 48, almost 49, if that matters. Avoiding liver/age spots is important to me and a lot of SPFs don't offer decent UVB/UVA protection. This one does.
Sometimes I put the cicaplast on top, mostly, it's fine on its own. I love it. tinyurl.com/yak5qojs

redferrari · 02/01/2021 15:07

Really pleased with the Waitrose pure day cream, it's only £3.

JurassicParkAha · 02/01/2021 16:52

The nip and fab retinol tonic is a nice, gentle way to ease into retinols. Use it 2-3 times a week at night. Your skin is too young to put too many chemicals on as you've got many years of skin care left and it can destroy your natural skin shield/defences by the time you're 35.

The inkey list rose hip oil is a soothing, natural moisturiser (only at night) that's also anti inflammatory and a good balance to retinol on alternate days. So cheap too!

I like the simple moisturisers (there's a new SPF 30 one), the nivea creme is great but could be too heavy for oily bits. Garnier do an anti age day care moisturiser with lavender that's fab. Light and smells divine.

Iamthewombat · 02/01/2021 16:59

For the past couple of years I've used Superdrug Optimum (grey one) but I think it's discontinued . I bought loads on BOGOF

Say it isn’t so! I love that stuff.

A few drops of squalane (cheap from Superdrug or The Ordinary) under moisturiser have been transformative for me.

ThatLibraryMiss · 02/01/2021 17:04

@PusheenLove, I don't wear make up but my daughter does and she has no problems with it.

Nomoresleeps · 02/01/2021 17:06

Child’s Farm £2

It’s the only moisturiser I can use that doesn’t make me spotty or blotchy.

ThatLibraryMiss · 02/01/2021 17:07

And @PusheenLove, the first two are really light, quite watery, but they do make a difference to how my skin feels.

BusterGonad · 02/01/2021 18:11

I've just rediscovered an old favourite. Aveeno. It's soft and great for dry sensitive skin. It's non greasy but leaves a nice coating of moisture in a non shiny sweaty manner). Some will comment on the petroleum in it but that doesn't worry me, after all I'm constantly applying Vaseline to my psoriasis on my elbows (and surprisingly it works).

MrsDThomas · 02/01/2021 20:00

used nivea Q10 Fir a very long time then tried many others, and went back to Q10 and it stung, so i stopped. Now i use Loreal Revitalift and i love it. I use the night version in the morning too. On offer many tines at half price fir around £6 so i b3-4 of them.
