Can you find me a dressing gown at a price which doesn't require me to remortgage?

I'm turning 40 in a handful of days and at the will of the global pandemic, instead of riding a steam train through the rolling hills whilst pretending to be the heroine of a 1950s novel, I'm going to buy myself the perfect dressing gown.

I used to have a dressing gown but made the poor choice to raise a child to age 13 and failed to predict the stealth theft of all of my clothes. I feel the cold (I'm 39.9, I can say things like that now) and have lots of lovely socks, a pair of fab slippers and a pile of festive gingerbread. I need a dressing gown to finish my slow and graceful slide into middle age.

I had a vision of what I wanted: long and warm, with a hood, colourful, makes me say "ooh" when I see it. Google helpfully supplied the perfect robe:

www.amara.com/products/yaco-hooded-bathrobe-159

Except it's two hundred and fifty eight English pounds and much as I have considered not feeding the clothes-stealing, aforementioned teen, I feel a moral obligation to finish this particular quest to at least her 21st birthday.

Any ideas where to shop for the perfect dressing gown?

Oh bugger, @ShowOfHands
I’ve been looking for a dressing gown all day. Now I’ve seen that missoni one, everything else just looks crap.

CorianderQueen · 27/12/2020 23:57

I have a wearable duvet which is way better

GVmama · 28/12/2020 14:35

I got a green tartan one in the men’s section at Sainsbury’s, it’s so thick and warm compared to the women’s ones. It’s borg lined, and feels sooo soft. It was £26 and worth every penny! It’s out of stock online but may be in store.

Cyberjammies have some colourful dressing gowns

Pray tell, with which borg is it lined? Are we talking Terminator, Robocop or your man from Teen Titans? Because I've got leftovers to eat, I haven't the time for any of them firtling about in my dressing gown.

All of these suggestions have really helped though I'm developing choice paralysis.

I really don't want a cardigan though. Definitely a dressing gown. I have many cardigans!

I do need to Google wearable duvet however...

I'm dithering over this one http://www.robetraders.co.uk/store/vienna.html

It's terry inside and velour outside, which sounds perfect, but it's not as long as I'd like, and I've never heard of the company so I can't quite commit to eighty quid. No doubt I'll decide to buy it just as it goes out of stock.

Oh I just posted my own thread and then found this one Blush

Hope you find your true dressing gown love OP!

I'm rubbish at links but I bought DS2 a tartan dressing gown with hood from M&S for £40. It's really lovely and lined, too. Worth a look. Thank

Joukes on Ebay have some gorgeous ones with hoods brand new around £25

sandycloud · 10/01/2021 17:27

I bought a dressing gown for my 18 year old daughter for Christmas. It’s from matalan and was £25. I can’t do links. But it’s dusky pink with a hood. It’s so soft. She said she feels like a character off Bridgerton which we binge watched.

Brand Alley had missioni dressing gowns a few months ago - for about £100.. I bought them for DH and each DS for presents. Fingers crossed they will come back as I want 1 now.

Laquila · 10/01/2021 17:52

I have the M&S hooded fleece one and a pp is right - you get insanely hot in about 60 seconds and immediately want to take it off. It's lovely on theory though!

I've got a double-faced cotton one from Toast which I've had for years and is still going strong. It's full-length, which I appreciate. The White Company ones looks lovely though.

Another option is British Boxers - I she their herringbone flannel PJs, which are v toasty but lightweight, and they do a robe from the same fabric:

Just bought Margot selby one from John Lewis. It's lovely colours, but not fluffy.
Also liked look of Toast ones but too spenny.

I got a lovely grey figured velvet robe from next online - full length, belted with an inner tie, hood and collar. It’s really cosy and glam looking without breaking the bank at £70.

Tomasinabombadil · 10/01/2021 21:03
Oh so sad, I had previously looked at this gorgeous one, it doesn’t come up big enough for my size 18 & I would really want a size 20 for wrap ability ☹️
BBOA · 10/01/2021 21:50

Um.... Sainsbury's? £20 quid max.Job done....unless you have money to burn!
