Can anyone recommend a decent shampoo?

I am at my wits end with my hair at the moment and it's really starting to bother me.

I cannot seem to find a shampoo to agree with my hair at the moment. I have tried all of the well known brands and everything I try seems to make my hair either very oily or dull and flat. I have naturally fine and soft hair, but there is a lot of it. It also takes an absolute age to try. As a result, my hair always looks lacklustre and dull and like it needs a wash. This has only started within the last 6 months and has never happened previously.

Can anyone recommed a shampoo or treatment that I could try?

Thank you xx

Have you tried a sulfate-free shampoo & conditioner? I've noticed my hair stays looking fresh for a few days since I changed to using the OGX brand, which I saw recommended on here. Before this, my hair used to feel a bit lank fairly quickly.

ParkheadParadise · 27/12/2020 01:40

I use
John Freida
Charles Worthington
Lee Stafford
I also use olaplex treatments weekly

flyingant · 27/12/2020 05:42

I would suggest trying a clarifying shampoo to strip your hair of any built-up oils or residue.

DaisyDoll778 · 27/12/2020 14:28

Thank you for the suggestions, I will definitely give them a try xx

Christophe Robin! It's brilliant!

SallyTimms · 27/12/2020 18:07

Herbal essences coconut one is, oddly, best I have found for my fine hair that actually helps it look swishy!

purplecorkheart · 27/12/2020 18:09

What shampoos have you tried?

If I were you I would get a good clarifying shampoo (salon) such as purelogy. It will get rid of any build up in your hair and you start a fresh. I am not sure if purelogy do shampoo for fine/oily hair but kertases do a great one in a light green bottle.

They seem expensive when you buy them but considering you only need a penny size amount if that they work out better value than supermarket shampoo.

Fluffycloudland77 · 27/12/2020 18:12

Have you tried aveda?.

I’ve used loads of different shampoos over the last 25 years and always go back to aveda.

opinionatedfreak · 27/12/2020 18:15

Philip Kingsley shampoo - used to be my go to before I coloured my hair extensively.

Is your conditioner too heavy? I'm using the olaplex one at the moment and it's making my hair quite lank.

If you think it is product build up - what about a a clarifying shampoo - I used to use the KMS one after swimming to shift chlorine...

DaisyDoll778 · 27/12/2020 19:14

Thank you for the suggestions, I will definitely be giving them a try. At the moment I am using a Tresemme one that always used to suit my hair really well, so I went back to it, but this time around its no good at all.

I think its possibly a hormonal change that has triggered this as my skin has changed as well and! Xx

Also recommend pureology - has transformed my hair and it sounds similar to yours

DaisyDoll778 · 27/12/2020 19:20

@fandangoes thank you I will be ordering later! Xx

I have similar hair, Vichy Dercos Energising is good
I also never use any conditioner, but instead use Head and Shoulders classic 2 in 1 (shampoo + cond) or Pantene 2 in 1

Allthetea · 27/12/2020 21:26

I’ve recently found Faith in Nature to be really good.

Cooltalkin · 27/12/2020 21:29

I have fine hair and really like the liz Earle shampoo and conditioner
It seems to give it more swish without weighing it down

MrsWooster · 27/12/2020 21:38

I have baby hair and lots of it and I am loving the faith in nature shampoo bar (lavender and geranium, I think) -makes my hair soft and shiny. It’s early days so I don’t know if it builds up and weighs my hair down, but so far so good.

Doodlepip23 · 27/12/2020 23:47

Yes to the PP who recommended OGX. My hair was looking dull and feeling lank until I got some OGX, now my hair feels lovely and soft and I don’t need to wash it as often.

Livedandlearned · 28/12/2020 00:11

I like OGX apple cider vinegar shampoo and conditioner and my hair is fine with lots of it.

Trisolaris · 28/12/2020 00:31

I love this one www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B01DCNPRX6?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title&tag=mumsnetforu03-21
No sulfates, silicones or parabens. I have very fine hair too and it has not looked so healthy in a long time.

mommydragon · 28/12/2020 09:06

I have very fine and frizzy hair and experienced a lot of hair loss in June. Result is a lot of baby hair now. I use Rootsandrituals range... hair oil the day before wash helps control fizz and has really reduced hair loss and promoted hair growth. Used their clarifying shampoo. They also have a moisturising shampoo. They have a hair mask which I use as a conditioner now and then but only from mid length to ends and never on the scalp. Available on their website or on Amazon and products are all natural and smell lush.

Sarcobaleno · 28/12/2020 10:03

Sulphate free shampoo has vastly improved the condition of my hair. I've been using it for 6 months and wouldn't like to go back now.

ThreeImaginaryBoys · 28/12/2020 10:16

Totally agree with PPs about sulfate-free. I use Faith In Nature and it has transformed my hair. I also tend to co-wash rather than I'm using shampoo all the time. So many shampoos are just full of gunk.

If you look up 'curly girl method' (it doesn't matter if you have curly hair) there are lists of products that are recommended that don't contain sulfates, alcohols, silicone etc. Very helpful and they're not expensive. For example, one is a 75p Apple conditioner from Sainsbury's.

caperplips · 28/12/2020 10:54

I'm using the Kevin Murphy range & love it. I have 2 different types of shampoo & 2 conditioners, a leave in oil treatment & a detoxifying shampoo I only use every few weeks..I have coloured hair & my salon uses these products.

A friend bought me olaplex shampoo & conditioner as a gift before Christmas & I honestly am not sure if I like them. I felt they left my shoulder length hair v sticky/ knotty but I'll try them again

Anyway I recommend the Kevin Murphy range. During lockdown i ordered replacements online & saw that you can buy travel sized bottles which might be a good way to try them out before committing ad they're pricey.

I use 'hydrate me' shampoo & conditioner and 'angel' shampoo 'young again' conditioner

Deepintheforest · 28/12/2020 10:58

Agree with pp. try silicone free conditioner, I used to wash my hair about 4 times a week since switching to completely silicone free it needs washing twice a week max. I use a shampoo with a sulfate once a week and sulfate free for the second wash. Silicone free conditioner both times.

bumpyrider · 28/12/2020 11:04

I've been using faith in nature coconut al finding it really gentle and my hair looks great
