Help to glam up for a charity ball!

I have been invited to a charity ball and as my recently exed H might be there and because I want to ditch my frumpyness I want to go glam.

I have two possible dresses one is black from M&S as recommended by Gok, I have never had a chance to wear this out yet. I think it would need some clever accesorising to make it more suitable for a ball.

I also have a red chiffony type dress, log with a sort of ruffle down the front, I think it makes me look a bit too mature and doesn't do as much for my waist as the black one, but again glammed up it might be better. Kind of like this but less flary at the bottom and as I said a ruffle down the front.

This is the look my hairs not quite long enough for that hairdo yet.

Sorry that would be smokey eyes but perhaps smakey is more correct for me.

The red is pretty.... can't see the M&S link? Smokey is easy enough to do but make sure you powder to set it (I always end up with it all over the place otherwise).

How long is your hair?

Skribble · 24/10/2007 14:41

M&S try this link

That red dress is a lot prettier than mine I think the flared hem line and lack of ruffle helps. mine is more "mature" .

My hair is chin length bob, dark and thick, just goes into a pony tail and no more.

Hmm. It's a nice shape, it's got that lovely Mouret neckline - but is it long enough? that would be my only quibble. If it is more flattering to the figure and you are happy with the length, I'd go with that one.

Get some blingy but classic jewellery - great earrings - necklace? - and get the hairdresser to do your hair. Gorgeous!

littleNonSpecificHolidaylapin · 24/10/2007 14:51

if your hair is chin length, how about some diamante hairclips - Accessorise do them - just to sweep a small side section back and jazz it up a little. I'd still get it professionally blowdried if you can.

Bessie123 · 24/10/2007 14:54

You could leave your hair down but put some sparkles on your eyes.

What size are you, skribble?

Skribble · 24/10/2007 14:57

I like that M&S necklace, it is more chuncky that I would go for but I think understated is not right for this occasion .

I want to get my hair done but I am working that day so I will be going straight from work to somewhere to get changed then the ball. I lke the idea of hir clips but always think they look silly on me.

About a 16, lost nearly a stone on the divorce diet in a month and a half. I am 30+

Go the night before for a blowdry, it should still have some volume the next day and will be lovely and sleek.

Oh, and you need FUCK OFF HIGH heels

Skribble · 24/10/2007 15:02

My hair is like this but just a tad longer and not red just boring brown

Skribble · 24/10/2007 15:03

I can't do high heels I have some med heels that I can hobble in, wish I could do strappy heels as I have not bad feet even though they are huge.

The M&S dress looks like it would hold everything in and give a nice shape. If you get a couple of matching diamante brooches for each side where the 'straps' attach (like those antique diamond dress clips, but cheaper) you could glam it up.

littleNonSpecificHolidaylapin · 24/10/2007 15:06

sleek and shiny . You could definitely stick a pretty hairclip in there.

oooooh!

Skribble · 24/10/2007 15:07

Brooch idea is good never thought of putting anything on the dress.

What about tights, black dress and black shoes. Any ideas.

littleNonSpecificHolidaylapin · 24/10/2007 15:08

ah, sorry, x posts on the heels.

not so high?

Skribble · 24/10/2007 15:09

Lapin love those shoes but I wouldn't get them on my feet, I have feet shaped feet nurtured in years of clarks and aother sensible shoes, my feet do not ccooperate with anything pointy.

Diamontes all over looking likely

OP posts:
Bessie123 · 24/10/2007 15:10

How about these shoes? They look like they would fit wide feet and they go up to a size 8.

no heels

littleNonSpecificHolidaylapin · 24/10/2007 15:10

all one colour very slimmimg. Go for sheer, nearly black rather than pure black. I sometimes get the M&S tights that are for black ladies - they are more a deep brown than black - very flattering on the leg.

Skribble · 24/10/2007 15:10

Ah see now my feet look quite respectable when not in shoes but they would be bulging out of them and I would look like the ugly sister trying to steal cinderellas shos.

OP posts:
Bessie123 · 24/10/2007 15:11

oh, maybe lapin's ones look nicer.

Bessie123 · 24/10/2007 15:12

My sister has massive shovel feet and she found monsoon/accesorize ones that fit her.

littleNonSpecificHolidaylapin · 24/10/2007 15:14

lol at massive shovel feet!

possibly a rounder toe then?
