In a bit of a quandary about patent leather shoes.

Operation Evening Shoe commenced yesterday.

2 hours later was feeling most despondent (esp. after musical cake slice encounter) when I came upon these rather lovely Kurt Geiger numbers.

They tick all the boxes (and give me an orgasm foot)....and yet they are patent.

I'm not sure if I like patent.

It is everywhere atm, but I need these shoes to last several years. Will patent be "OMG they're so 2007" in 2009.

opinions please.

I love them and would buy them, would buy them even if patent wasn't in because they are divine speaks the owner of 4 pairs of patent shoes!

Slubberdegullion · 23/10/2007 15:01

jura, it's the shiny/shoes you wore when you were 4 and going to church combo that puts me off.

And yet they are lovely. I picked them up and put them down again 3 times.

potpot...4 pairs of patents , you should be in a shoe duel with lapin.

you know if you wear patent shoes the boys can see your knickers reflected?

Lizzylou · 23/10/2007 15:03

Gorgeous shoes...I'd buy them if I wasn't already so darned tall, could walk in em and had £120 to spend

poptot · 23/10/2007 15:04

Yes love shoes but am a bit concerned about some of the shoes on that link, SPIKE, what are they all about? nearly as wrong as a musical cake slice

Gemy · 23/10/2007 15:06

They are lovely but will they last for years? No. And patent also get scratched easily.

But, shapes seem to be more "in" or "out" and since the shape of these is not either in or our, then maybe the shinyness won't matter as much? Looking on russell and bromley website, they are really going with the patent option and if Mr Russell and Mr Bromley are doing it......

There's always that shiny leather that's kind of inbetween normal leather and patent....?

Slubberdegullion · 23/10/2007 15:08

Lizzy I'm going with the 'these shoes are going to be an investment' angle of self deception.

I never buy shoes, and want to buy a pair that
a) are gorgeous
b) will look gorgeous in 2 years time
c) possibly if I am very careful and walk nicely and not get drunk and fall in a drain and break them, look nice in 5 years.

I'm tall too, but fuck it, I want orgasm feet.

Gemy, I didn't know that patent scratched (I am so shoe illiterate). Can you do something about that? or are they damaged for evermore?

Slubber, do it, I still wear my pre-ds1 KG shoes (Oh for my old paycheques!) 4/5 yrs on.

My Dh is only 1.5 inches taller than me and gets miffed when I wear high heels.

They are fab and look very classy and timeless as well as modern (can you tell I'm jealous?).

NomDeBroomstick · 23/10/2007 15:19

I have patent shoes and mine haven't scratched. In fact, I have 3 pairs. 2 are red .

Patent does mark but you can rub the marks off easily enough. Otherwise, I don't find patent scuffs any easier than normal leather tbh.

Slubberdegullion · 23/10/2007 15:22

Lizzy. My DH is 2 inches shorter than me, but actually likes me in heels (I suspect he has a slight Rod Stewart 'look at me with the leggy blonde' thing going on).

I have patent leather wedges and love them. Shiny shoes def the way to go

Slubberdegullion · 23/10/2007 15:34

hmmm jura, have not really considered the crippling pain angle. I think I give my feet a pretty easy time of it with all the sensible, chumfy, toe spreading, 'I can take big fuck off strides' in these shoes I wear most of the time. They can just be put in completely non supportive but fabulously beautiful shoes now and again.

And I plan to sit at regular intervals regardless of what function I am at.

Aren't those gel inserty party feet things meant to help?

Ok so they are not as nice but they are a tenth of the price These are quite nice. I tried them on today.

Carmenere · 23/10/2007 17:46

Actually they had other ones that were a bit more like your choice but they are not on the website.

Patent shoes are really good - they last well, and don't tend to get too scuffed. I discovered this when I used to put DDs in patent shoes when they were little.

I used to wear patent shoes to work back in the late 80s/early 90s.

edam · 23/10/2007 17:52

IIRC convent schools used to ban patent leather shoes because they might reflect your knickers!

So take that into account before shelling out on your Kurt Geigers...

ScaryScienceT · 23/10/2007 17:53

Too funny, Edam!

£120 for shoes . I was out one night when I notced a couple of girls scrabbing around the floor, turns out one of them had lost her gel insert, but her shoe was still on!? I'm eyeing up a pair of black wedges in Next and now I can say to Dh ' but they're only £40 that's cheap for shoes, look, these are £120. Thanks!
