Anyone else just stopped buying nice clothes?

Only thing I've bought in the last 3 months is a coat and some lounge sets and baggy sweatshirts.
Saw a lovely dogtooth jacket/blazer today in Tesco, picked it up because it was reduced to £20 and after a few seconds of thinking were I could wear it to I put it back down because where am I going? No pubs or restaurants open,no events no parties no nothing Sad just buy a couple of comfy bits for when I'm home from work. I'm actually in my work uniform more than I'm in normal clothes. Make ups the same! Can't remember the last time I wore make up because I'm covered up with a mask Sad
One time in my life where I've got a bit of disposable income to buy clothes after years of making do and sorting the kids out first and there's no where to wear the bloody nice clothes so I think what's the point!
Sorry for the rant just feeling quite shitty lately.

I’ve kept wearing nice clothes, and buying things, but different things - I’ve bought more jeans, and knitwear, for WFH. No work stuff. Makeup/perfume I have worn as normal, plus doing my nails etc.

I have always worn scrubs and a mask at work so this has been me for the last 10 years - no make up and no point buying clothes often as never get to wear them when work takes up life! I think I've got used to it.

Purpleblondelady · 20/12/2020 23:07

When I used to have to wear a uniform I think it made me dress up more out of work and I know others who worked in the same profession were the same.

I've gone through phases of how much I've bought this year, sometimes buying things in an attempt to have something to look forward to or buying things in the sales and other times feeling like I really need to buy less because there is nowhere to wear these new clothes. This may seem a little bit of a childish thing to do but I've started wearing clothes from one end of my wardrobe and then when they're washed putting them back at the other end of my wardrobe in an attempt to wear more of the clothes I own rather than wearing the same things over over. Things that are too dressed up in wear around the house I put back to the start again! It makes me think more about what goes together and coming up with more of an outfit.

I read somewhere that lipstick sales are down 70%. I guess it's inevitable if we are all wearing masks.

I've bought a coat in the sale because I can't WFH but that's about it, I'm with you I love going to the Trafford centre etc and shopping but I haven't been there this year at all!

I’ve bought far less than usual and wonder why I bought so much in the first place. When I do buy now I’m going for quality - a beautiful bag or coat.
I’ve spent more on my home though!

I've never worn make up, but I've lost 60lb and gone down 4+ sizes, and taken up walking (8-10km most days, work permitting). I also finished an incredibly stressful qualification in July, which has weighed heavily over the last three years (which is what freed the brain space for the weight loss and the time for the walking). I'm a residential support worker so working, at work, more than ever - no uniform but jeans are almost a uniform!

I've spent more on clothes since July than in the two years leading up to July, but partly because I didn't buy much nor have much/ any time before that, and partly because I've got very into buying walking gear - I wear my favourite walking trousers to work and the shops too BlushGrin

@UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme

Not what the thread is about, but your post has really made me smile- bloody well done on both counts, the qualification and the weightloss. Lovely to hear of someone achieving some hard won goals.

Same here OP. Covid and overweight. Determined diet in January so by the time we can live again, I will evolve as a butterfly and buy myself some new smart clothes.

Spodge · 21/12/2020 18:43

I bought some lovely stuff at the beginning of the year for cruises that have gone down the pan. On the few occasions we have been able to go to the curry house I have been ridiculously over-dressed. I did buy one new dress in the autumn because I needed a nice but warm dress to cope with all the ventilation in restaurants for the few times we were able to go. Otherwise I've just been buying fitness gear.

ReallySpicyCurry thank you! First lockdown was hard with 3 kids homeschooling (1 dyslexic and requiring a lot of input), revision and dissertation, and shift work but in all honesty life's been good since July!

Sorry to hear about all the people struggling - I can really recommended walking daily to anyone who's circumstances allow - its really improved my quality of life on multiple levels.
