Anyone else just stopped buying nice clothes?

Only thing I've bought in the last 3 months is a coat and some lounge sets and baggy sweatshirts.
Saw a lovely dogtooth jacket/blazer today in Tesco, picked it up because it was reduced to £20 and after a few seconds of thinking were I could wear it to I put it back down because where am I going? No pubs or restaurants open,no events no parties no nothing Sad just buy a couple of comfy bits for when I'm home from work. I'm actually in my work uniform more than I'm in normal clothes. Make ups the same! Can't remember the last time I wore make up because I'm covered up with a mask Sad
One time in my life where I've got a bit of disposable income to buy clothes after years of making do and sorting the kids out first and there's no where to wear the bloody nice clothes so I think what's the point!
Sorry for the rant just feeling quite shitty lately.

I've used the the extra income and online sales to pick up some good basics. I'm not a dedicated follower of fashion and generally have my own style. So I've picked up some pieces I needed/wanted.

I was WFH in the summer then went back into the office for a few weeks when the schools went back. I found getting back into the routine of putting on make up, and wearing my work dresses helped my mood lots. I went back to WFH after half term and I've carried on putting on makeup and my 'work' clothes because the routine helps me.

I do look a bit overdressed for Asda and the school run. But I look and feel better.

Blueberryblueberry · 19/12/2020 10:36

I've basically just updated my lounge wear. It's not a massive upgrade either, just slightly newer stuff from supermarket ranges and various pairs of hareem pants Grin I've also bought some "nice" jumpers from gap as my house is basically freezing and I'm WFH. I feel better when I make a bit of an effort but agree I can't really be bothered a lot of the time and think "this'll do for zoom" and would definitely be washing my hair more if I was in the office Confused

Blueberryblueberry · 19/12/2020 10:38

Maybe treat yourself to a nice coat for over your uniform or really nice underwear/socks/piece of jewellery op?

Thankssomuch · 19/12/2020 10:39

I have bought some nice bits this Autumn but have ended up only wearing them at work as there isn’t anywhere else.

Equimum · 19/12/2020 10:46

Apart from a warm & waterproof coat I literally haven’t bought anything for months! There seems little point!

PerfidiousAlbion · 19/12/2020 11:04

I've continued pretty much as normal, firstly buying summer clothes for the hot weather we had, then taking advantage if all the fire sales going on. I bought cashmere in summer for a steal and couple if designer jackets/blazers last month at over 70% off. I just bought some Jigsaw ankle boots half price and a down coat reduced from £198 to £98, plus waterproof walking gear that would normally be ££££, all at massively reduced prices.

Everyone at work now dresses down in smart casual wear, only our MD continues to turn up to work in a three piece suit but then he had them tailor-made so I'd imagine he wants his moneys worth!

I like to dress nicely at home and always put make up on & do my hair but i normally just wear jeans & jumper. I find if I spend too much time in elasticated waists, I tend to expand into them!

Mumski45 · 19/12/2020 11:53

I treated myself to some nice cycling clothing as it was the only thing I was wearing outside the house. I would a save the extra money you have and buy yourself something nice when all this shit is over.

shamus2020 · 19/12/2020 17:44

Tier 4 now so even less enthusiasm to buy clothes or even get out of bed all together. So glad I've still got to go into work for 4 days next week just so I haven't got to go insane being at home. Even if I do have to wear uniform it'll be a change from pjs AngrySad

The only piece of clothing I've bought this year is a fabulous oversized hoodie that will be delivered on Monday. I hope. I'm far too excited about this than I should be.

Standrewsschool · 19/12/2020 17:55

I’ve brought quite a bit due to loosing weight and re-evaluating my wardrobe. Brought some dresses and some new coats. Retail therapy has been a bit of a saviour for me, even if most of it goes back. One of my resolutions for 2021 is not to shop so much.

ReallySpicyCurry · 19/12/2020 19:05

Nope, I must be the only person who has spent a fortune on nicer than usual clothes this year!

I've lost 30lbs since July. Gone down 2 and a half dress sizes. Totally overhauled my style and my wardrobe for the first time in about a decade. Went back to work in September and everyone is dressing at the same level they always were.

I couldn't be happier. I always thought I preferred comfort over style, and to a point that is true, but I found the lazy dressing of the first lockdown absolutely awful for my MH and confidence. Always prided myself on being low maintenance and casual and now I've gone completely the opposite. Lipstick to go and get a pint of milk. No wearing exercise clothes unless I'm going for a run. It's absolutely a personal thing though - I need rules, standards, boundaries and expectations around clothing, way, way more than I thought

UncleBunclesHouse · 19/12/2020 19:10

Same, but maybe save it to really splash out and treat yourself when we have somewhere to go?

HowManyToes · 19/12/2020 19:16

I've bought 6 pairs of black leggings and a new parks for walking the dog. Depressing 😩

HowManyToes · 19/12/2020 19:16

*parka

Imissmoominmama · 19/12/2020 19:18

Yep. I’ve spent a small fortune on walking gear though- walking has kept me sane.

Imissmoominmama · 19/12/2020 19:19

@ReallySpicyCurry- no one can see your lipstick if you’re wearing a mask Grin.

Fairyliz · 19/12/2020 20:35

I’ve gone the opposite way and bought lots of going out clothes as the prices are so low.
Eg our local charity shop has sparkly going out dresses on sale this week. Got a lovely Coast dress for £4.
Ok I can’t wear them yet but one day I will!

SquidInALid · 19/12/2020 21:36

I started off buying nothing, then in October I had a bit of a dip mentally and wanted to think about clothes again. I bought a few good things; a fabulous leather jacket and going out handbag and boots and a couple of camis.

So now I'm all set for a night out!Grin probably pointless really but I feel more me when I think about clothes.

ReallySpicyCurry · 19/12/2020 21:39

@Imissmoominmama they can on the 7 minute walk out of my house, down high street, and through the square. And that's where it counts. Out of my cold dead hands you'll take my lippy Grin I did wonder the other day if sales had dropped!

Imissmoominmama · 19/12/2020 21:51

@ReallySpicyCurry Grin

Purpleblondelady · 20/12/2020 15:04

How do you male sure it doesn't smudge though? I miss lipstick.

Hotchocolatewithcream · 20/12/2020 15:32

I’m the opposite.
I’m so fed up of it all I’ve been buying make up (despite never wearing any!) and nice new clothes online to try and cheer myself up a bit

Melange99 · 20/12/2020 15:57

I haven't bought much. Got a few cashmere scarves and hats, lounge wear at a price point I would not normally consider, a few jumpers and leggings, and a new pair of trainers and hiking boots.

I think this has taught me that I don't need much. I will buy less but more expensive things going forward. I don't think a lot of the fast fashion places will last so I will be looking at independent and smaller outlets for stuff.

I have been WAH since March. I did not wear makeup at first, but now I do - and I am using up all the expensive stuff - Hourglass, ByTerry, Chanel! What's the point of saving it for best?

ReallySpicyCurry · 20/12/2020 16:05

@Purpleblondelady I'm not sure. It just doesn't. It sort of dabs a bit at the inside of the mask but no smudging. I don't pull my mask up or down though, I put it straight on my face and then loop round the ears, that might make a difference. I use silk/satiny type face masks too

MichelleofzeResistance · 20/12/2020 16:09

I've gone the opposite way too. I got fed up with having a wardrobe of smart clothes I never wore, started hanging out on S&B a lot, and started a campaign of almost nothing for best. I wear clothes I like and enjoy wearing, and that make me feel good. And stuff that I'm lounging around in them and the dog is climbing all over them, because I bloody well need the motivation at the moment. Grin
