Shall I go from blonde to red? Impossible question of the day...

I'm bored of blonde. I liked it when my hair was very long, and also very short, but now it's sort of chin length (I'm growing it) it's just dull. It's also too blonde as I'm been doing it myself (too skint to go to the hairdressers all the time ).

So I'm thinking about going to the hairdressers and changing to red. I'm naturally a redhead anyway, so I'm not too concerned about skintone etc (pale, freckly, grey eyes). Plus as the roots come in, they won't be so obvious so I could afford to get it done professionally as it will be less often.

Current hair colour to something like this - whaddya reckon?

What I REALLY want is to look like this

I asked my hairdresser what she thought of my going from blonde to dark and she suggested I try a couple of wigs on first. Could you do that? Or isn't there a site whereyou can super impose a colour on your hair. Or could you Photoshop a picture of yourself? (I feel sure you can being the technical whizz you are!)

Or could it be that you need to doing professionally from time to time to stop it being uniform colour. So could splashing out on a proper job now and then be the answer?

Do it, I used to dye mine blonde, years ago and I went back to red (it's actually a maroony colour) and I'm a ginge with pale skin so it looks much better than blonde on me , imho.

CatIsSleepy · 23/10/2007 11:20

yes to red

EffiePerine · 23/10/2007 11:22

Yes, but get it done professionally. My sister now has pink hair after unfortunate accident.

harleyweendemon · 23/10/2007 11:23

are you doing it yourself?
last time i tried it i went bright pink

harleyweendemon · 23/10/2007 11:23

snap

screaminghousewife · 23/10/2007 11:23

Oh yes, they will have to put a bright red on it first to netralise the blonde iyswim.

EffiePerine · 23/10/2007 11:25

There are TWO of you

RubyShivers · 23/10/2007 11:25

give it a whirl ...
that you can carry off either colour

harleyweendemon · 23/10/2007 11:25

ep, are you my sister?

stripeybumpsmum · 23/10/2007 11:26

Natural red head here - YES YES YES to your plan to go back to red (my hair is similar style but longer than your'would like to look' picture, and though I say so myself, think it looks damn fine. At the mo', flooded with pg hormones but about to fall out post natally or ripped out overdue waiting for very unpunctual DC2 to get here.....

EffiePerine · 23/10/2007 11:26

EffiePerine · 23/10/2007 11:27

Could be - you are being wicked and anonymous so I can't check

EffiePerine · 23/10/2007 11:29

looks like not, so there ARE two of you

harleyweendemon · 23/10/2007 11:30

lol

EffiePerine · 23/10/2007 11:31

did your ahir go kind of stripy?

harleyweendemon · 23/10/2007 11:32

yes because i had different shades of blonde through it, so i had pink hair with really pink highlights

harleyweendemon · 23/10/2007 11:33

so, ll, the moral of the story is
go to the hairdresser and let them do it lovely for you

EffiePerine · 23/10/2007 11:34

(unless you really WANT pink hair). My sister's is kind of graded between pale pink and magenta. Doesn't look bad actually .

EffiePerine · 23/10/2007 11:35

Out of interest, how did you fix it? Did you just let it grow out? I suppose if you put another dye on top the results could be spectacular...
