Washersaurus · 21/10/2007 21:19

Is this the one you are on about? You can zoom in on the picture.

RoyKinnear · 21/10/2007 21:22

yes it is

katymac - those just dont look as big and sturdy as the homes and gardens one

i have a BIG gap and it needs filling!

Katymac · 21/10/2007 21:23

Well google 'large fire basket'

Katymac · 21/10/2007 21:23

That is a fireplace not a basket

It will be very expensive

RoyKinnear · 21/10/2007 21:23

i have done but that one is more than a basket - there must be a name for it

OP posts:
RoyKinnear · 21/10/2007 21:24

hmmm looks pricey i agree

Katymac · 21/10/2007 21:31

these any good?

Katymac · 21/10/2007 21:33

or these?

Katymac · 21/10/2007 21:33

A stove would be more efficient (esp if you are going to light it regularily

Washersaurus · 21/10/2007 21:35

Register baskets ??

Washersaurus · 21/10/2007 21:36

I meant 'Register Grate'

Katymac · 21/10/2007 21:38

& a stove would be cheaper (less dusty as well)

Can you tell I like stoves?

RoyKinnear · 21/10/2007 21:38

fabulous katymac - that second link is perfect

pricey!! but v v nice and just what we need ( it's NAO btw)

OP posts:
Katymac · 21/10/2007 21:42

Still think you would be better off with a stove

Washersaurus · 21/10/2007 21:46

At that price I think I'd have to go for the stove option

RoyKinnear · 21/10/2007 21:48

the thnk i am thinking is a stove has to be fitted whereas these things - just slllllllide in - load up with logs and merry christmas to the otters

stove- wait 200 years and a lot of tutting for stove people to fit one and an icy xmas had by all

Katymac · 21/10/2007 21:51

Well have you had the flue checked & swept?

It might need a liner (even for a fire)

It isn't always a quick option

How big is the room?

Do you want it for everyday heat/Hot water or just for show/High days & holidays?

RoyKinnear · 21/10/2007 21:56

i think the room is probably about 16 x 14 plus bay...its darn cold atm

not everyday but fairly regular use

chimney was sold to us as lined although mutual friends and vendors told us it 'smoked' but vendors said that is because fire basket was not 'raised' enough!

OP posts:
Katymac · 21/10/2007 21:58

I would strongly advise a stove

How big is the hole?

RoyKinnear · 21/10/2007 21:59

BIG - not measured it but big!

OP posts:
Katymac · 21/10/2007 22:02

They are very green, much more economical than fires, cleaner, less dust, less cleaning out

Mine runs my central heating and provides all my hot water (in the winter)

DH keeps slim chopping wood (but you can buy it chopped)

Katymac · 21/10/2007 22:02

My hole is 900x900c500

Washersaurus · 21/10/2007 22:09

Oh stop boasting Katy

Katymac · 21/10/2007 22:14

Pssh that's nothing mt stove has a 45,000 btu output
