Where do posh London teens shop?

PersonaNonGarter · 06/12/2020 15:30

I am looking for a gift for my goddaughter and I am told she’d like a maxi skirt. The teen shops I know about are Hollister and Jack Wills and both have let me down.

Any suggestions? What’s fashionable?

Brandy Melville.

UntamedWisteria · 06/12/2020 15:38

I am also interested in this!

Thisismynewname123 · 06/12/2020 17:25

I was also going to say Brandy Melville

mumduty · 06/12/2020 17:27

Rixo have some nice clothing

Thisismynewname123 · 06/12/2020 17:39

Or what about American Eagle outfitters? Or Abercrombie?

LardeeLar · 06/12/2020 17:56

Urban outfitters, you can't go wrong

queenofarles · 06/12/2020 18:38

My teen nieces shop at places like Rixo, Loveshackfancy, Sandro, Gianni , &other stories.

Your safest option would be &otherstories.

CosyQueen · 06/12/2020 18:50

I second &otherstories, Zara or urban outfitters

Londonmummy66 · 06/12/2020 18:51

Mine keeps a beady eye on The Outnet - they have quite a lot at the £100 mark. Also, Urban Outfitters, All Saints, Rixo and Ganni. She has rather gone off Jack WIllis since they were bought by Sports Direct.

MiddleClassMother · 06/12/2020 18:54

Another vote for urban outfitters, it's brilliant

Rollergirl11 · 06/12/2020 19:01

Urban Outfitters, Motel Rocks, Brandy Melville (if you’re a size 6)

Rollergirl11 · 06/12/2020 19:02

Oh and Monki too. A lot more affordable than UO.

namochangoro · 06/12/2020 19:10

I think we must be more ordinary here. My teen likes H&M and was rather pleased with the skinny Matalan suit he got for 6th form.Smile

RosesAndHellebores · 06/12/2020 19:19

When ds was a teen it was Camden Market and a bit of Jack Wills. DD and her friends liked charity shops and Asos. Both went to top London day schools. Abercrombie & Fitch, Ralph Lauren came from the US where they were much cheaper.

You may need to define "posh" op. Mixing in Oligarch circles, banking/magic circle families, inherited wealth?

Mine are in their 20s now. DS lives in joggers and t shirts and the odd hoodie, DD leggings, t shirts and the odd hoodie. DD is a bit nerdy and liked sweet dresses from Oliver Bonas as a teen Shock

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 06/12/2020 19:21

DS could be categories as posh I guess... he and his mates live in crappy sports clothes and oodies from what I can see.

mamaoffourdc · 06/12/2020 20:00

Brandy Melville, urban outfitters

PersonaNonGarter · 06/12/2020 21:32

Thanks all - I’ll have a look.

Top London day school is right -not oligarch but more fashion savvy than my own DCs. Mine are North Face and Hollister and Sports Direct.

I know of what I speak. Hmm

It’s all Depop these days. Yes Brandy Melville & Urban Outfitters if you are looking for vouchers. Brandy Melville is all “one size” - there is a bit of give/stretch but pls do not engage if recipient is above a size 12 as it is very unforgiving.

&OtherStories is a fashionable mum place (ask me how I know, LOL). They have eg nice earrings and toiletries but frankly I had to buy up DD’s voucher from there last Xmas, which a well meaning relative had bought.

Zara ok, but not “special”. I think Hollister and Jack Wills are done.

Summary - you can’t go wrong with Urban Outfitters. They like browsing there and there are other things than clothes, so good for a voucher.

CorianderQueen · 06/12/2020 22:36

Jack wills isn't really stylish anymore

Victoria1083 · 07/12/2020 01:01

Brandy Melville can be controversial - my daughter won’t be seen dead in their clothes because of the one size fits all thing... she is definitely the ‘right’ size for them but is against the whole exclusivity based on size idea.
Posh London kids fall into many categories - the poshest ones in her class shop in H&M, Primark. The vegan/sustainability crowd are obsessed with charity shops. There are a lot of arty girls, too - Zara, UO and Oliver Bonas from what I hear for them. I also heard Hollister, Lululemon and Sweaty Betty mentioned.
So all very individual it seems except for Nike Airs....

namochangoro · 07/12/2020 08:00

Just looked at Brandy Melville. Their dresses have an 18" bust???!! I don't get it. That would be smaller than the waist of their XS jeans?Shock

Malin52 · 07/12/2020 08:05

Hollister, Jack Willis and Abercrombie would be terribly common now.

TheScoresOnTheDoors · 07/12/2020 12:03

I work in a posh London girls school where the sixth form wear their own clothes. Half my wardrobe is from &otherstories and agree with PP that its not really for teens. They seem to get most of their stuff from ASOS and urban outfitters. Their general style is very scruffy - buffalo trainers, big baggy jeans. Basically lots of early naughties stuff which makes me shudder when I think of my own teenage clothes. Pastel everything at the moment. Monki as well. There seems to be the odd bit of knitwear and stuff from a nicer niche brand which I presume is knicked from mum's wardrobe Grin

Schummakker · 07/12/2020 12:07

DD is slim but voluptuous bum and curvy, we recently went shopping and popped in to Brandy Melville and the clothes were positively tiny.

For special occasions she also shops at Selfridges and Outnet but mainly buys from Depop and UO.

Schummakker · 07/12/2020 12:09

&other stories is good for sixth form outfits but not casual wear.
