How do you get over ageing?

Frappuccino2020 · 20/11/2020 21:05

I turned 24 this year. I know I’m still young but the difference between my face now and at 23/pre-COVID is shocking. I have been incredibly stressed, my cheeks have shrunk and my previously heart shaped face looks flat now My tear troughs/nasolabial folds are more pronounced. My hair started to fall out due to stress lol 🤦🏼‍♀️

Can’t help but feel a bit shit and awful. How do I get out of this funk and get over it??

24?

I can't, just can't. Sorry

Delatron · 20/11/2020 23:13

24? Are you taking the piss?

WinWinnieTheWay · 20/11/2020 23:14

I think of the alternative.

Delatron · 20/11/2020 23:14

I reckon I peaked at about 28/29 as in looked my best. You are not ageing at 24 don’t be so stupid.

Audreyseyebrows · 20/11/2020 23:17

24

I just peed

AgeLikeWine · 20/11/2020 23:17

Very easily. I think about my friend Sean who was killed in a car crash when he was 22 and tell myself that getting older is, on balance, preferable to the alternative.

Holothane · 20/11/2020 23:19

Oh good grief your a babe yet I’m 54 now I use my night cream and just get on with life as far as arthritis will let me but I’m still young at heart love 80s music and wear Star Wars or dr who t shirts mainly.

ArtieFufkinPolymerRecords · 20/11/2020 23:25

I’m not sure why people are being rude and laughing, there is a change in my appearance and it is affecting my self esteem. I wouldn’t be posting if there was nothing wrong.

Because you titled the thread "How do you get over ageing?", and then talk about not looking as good at 24 as you did at 23, which is obviously nothing to do with age.

Why have you posted a photo of another woman?

Delatron · 20/11/2020 23:34

Come back when you’re 50. Jesus.

Are your comprehension skills just poor or are you just trying to be a bitch for internet kudos?

I used the photo of an example of the problem I have. I have malar bags at 24. I did not have them at 23. The changes in my face are permanent, therefore fundamentally not different to the changes from ageing are they?

I was just hoping for advice as I’m sure I’m not the only person here who has experienced changes in their appearance like this, rather I have to deal with lovely posts like yours.

That's not ageing, that's poor health. You're 24, ffs.

Ageing is always better than the alternative, at any age.

2bazookas · 20/11/2020 23:39

Death cures it.

Delatron · 20/11/2020 23:41

To be fair I didn’t look after my skin in my 20s (I do now). I used to drink, eat badly and basically looked quite knackered.

At 44 I obviously look my age but I look after my skin more.

You’re not ageing at 24. Eat well (lots of good fats; Salmon, avocados, walnuts). Drink lots of water. SPF50 every day. In a few years introduce retinol.

Othering · 20/11/2020 23:42

@Frappuccino2020

The photo isn’t me btw
Well then it's impossible to actually give any constructive feedback but for the avoidance of any doubt, no one is being rude....... you're simply not into ageing skin territory at 24. You will have plumpness, elasticity, collagen etc and the impossible-to-fake bloom of youth.
AcornAutumn · 20/11/2020 23:43

It’s stress

The worst job I had, I was about 26 and as well as hair loss, my skin looked absolutely grey.

I was restored to my usual self when I left and looked the same till I was about 40.

So, what’s the deal with the stress? If you want to start a thread in chat, point me to it and hopefully MNers can help.

But honestly, your face will recover. I’m not particularly one for noticing looks much but it was shocking what a horribly stressful job did to me.

Separatedandabitsad · 20/11/2020 23:48

I understand OP. I used to fixate on changes in my appearance — everything from stretch marks to melanin production! The truth is I just mellowed as I got older - honestly. I look back and wonder why I was so obsessed with my bodily/facial changes. Honestly the only ‘cure’ for how you’re feeling is distraction and a ‘F**k it, I’m fine!’ attitude.

FWIW I used to fixate on those things because my mind had bigger fish to fry. I think it was a way of distracting myself from my bigger problems. Could this be the case for you?

So essentially I seem to be advising you to distract yourself from the distraction! Honestly: watch good TV, read a funny book, ring a friend & talk all about them, not you, eat amazing food, laugh & live life.

Best of luck Star

AnyFucker · 20/11/2020 23:52

Are your comprehension skills just poor

Aren't you lovely. And an ageist piece of work.

If you had said "help, I'm looking stressed, worn out, my skin is suffering" that would be fine

But you bewailed "ageing" as if that was the worst thing that could happen.

Read the room, it's you that is a bit slow on the uptake

Anotherdayanothernight · 20/11/2020 23:53

I think I looked my best at mid thirties, and then I had more confidence than before

CandyLeBonBon · 21/11/2020 00:00

😂

Agreed, I often wonder how people like the OP will cope if they have the privilege to actually become older. I really wish ageing wasn’t seen as something to be so scared of as if it’s the most awful thing that can happen to a woman, really pisses me off.
vodkaredbullgirl · 21/11/2020 00:19

Just go with the flow.

GeordieGirl47 · 21/11/2020 00:37

I understand OP. You probably phrased it wrong by saying ageing, but I know what you mean. I'm a lot older than you, 48, but I've always looked young for my age until recently. I swear I've aged 5 years in the last 6 months. The bags under my eyes are very pronounced and underneath them I have these lines you're talking about. I look awful. It's all well and good everyone saying it's better than the alternative, I think more now than ever we are perfectly aware of that, but you posted in style and beauty and you're entitled to voice your concerns, doesn't mean for one minute that you're shallow. I'm sure with some self care you'll see positive changes, not so sure at my age! Grin

Lizzie523 · 21/11/2020 01:44

How much do you drink? Make sure you are staying hydrated, eating the right foods as above and I would say getting a good rest but I am one to talk. Turned a bit insomniac of late. Also a decent toner.

I've just turned 29 and I am a bit shocked to discover I will not actually stay young and in my 20s forever. Who knew? 😃 I have been feeling similar lately having discovered a forehead line and eye bags more persistent. Overall though I look more or less the same as I did at 24. I also wore la Roche posay factor 50 moisturiser.

Last but not least, I share your feelings at times but ageing happens to all of us that get that far. There is nothing you can do but accept it. Try to enjoy life and do things that make you happy. There is a Roald Dahl quote about good/happy people looking that way from the inside out and I think that is true. More important than a few lines here and there.

Batikbed · 21/11/2020 02:06

I'm in my 40s and I'm really happy with how I look. There is no point in saying I look way younger because its hard to judge yourself but people tend to think I'm a lot younger. I don't have any lines, wrinkles or sagging or any pigmentation.

Here are my tips:

High factor spf everyday even indoors in winter do this from now.

Prescription strength retin a

A good glycolic acid

Vitamin C serum

Copper peptides are also good.

Absolutely no smoking, drinking or drugs, no sunbathing. Avoid stress, late nights and eat loads of fresh veg and fruit, cook from scratch and shun processed foods. Eat good fats. Exercise but not to hard for too long. HIIT is fine.

Never skimp on sleep.

Do all this from a young age and you will look amazing in your 40s with no botox or filler etc.

You’re rundown. You’re not ageing. Which is good because being rundown is very reversible.
