Have boilersuits had their day?

Hallo,

I bought the most beautiful boilersuit from Finisterre, it's really well made and very flattering.

finisterre.com/collections/womens-trousers-shorts/products/pennan-zip-coverall-organic-cotton-black?variant=32850959597645

But - I'm wondering if they have had their day really. I'm not particularly trend driven, but it's not cheap. What do you think?

I think you might be surprised @Bluewavescrashing, if they skim and you don't wear a tight belt or have an elastic waist they look good.

MarshaBradyo · 20/11/2020 19:41

I was going to say yes but I like that one

DateLoaf · 20/11/2020 21:55

Love it

ZaraW · 21/11/2020 05:24

Love it and I'm not a fan of boilersuits. It's the best I've seen.

Thankssomuch · 21/11/2020 06:41

I think it’s a very neutral item that could look amazing depending on how you style it, your figure, height etc. Whether it’s fashionable or not, I don’t think that’s important. I like the one in the link, it’s not ‘girly’ 👍

Nc135 · 21/11/2020 08:28

My mum used to wear them in the 80s. Pale pink etc

PersonaNonGarter · 21/11/2020 08:36

I was going to ask the same thing, OP. Did lockdown kill the jumpsuit? But I think not yet. That is a really nice one.

MikeUniformMike · 21/11/2020 09:58

In or not I have placed an order for a L&Y boilersuit. It seemed a shame to pay for postage so I ordered some dungas too.

Zinnia · 21/11/2020 11:36

I bloody love a boiler suit (though they don't always love bottom-heavy me back). Very keen on that Finisterre one @thetrees - how's the fit over the hips/thighs? Looks a bit slim-cut from the website photos...

Bwlch · 21/11/2020 11:46

Tall and willowy women look fab in them.

My thoughts exactly.

MikeUniformMike · 21/11/2020 15:01

Tall and willowy women look fab in them.

They probably look fab in anything. Don't not wear something just because you think it might not suit you.

My prettier, taller and slimmer DSis and I went shopping and tried on the same dress. It looked fab on me and like a sack on her.

NottinghamFlorest · 21/11/2020 15:08

That boiler suit is gorgeous... I still wear mine... on a different topic, does anyone know where the brown leather shoes the model is wearing in that main photo the OP linked to are from? They're exactly my holy grail sandals!

MikeUniformMike · 21/11/2020 15:47

I noticed that they looked nice. Maybe from Finisterre, or you could ask them.

MrsAmaretto · 21/11/2020 16:52

Well I wear one when out feeding the sheep :) That one you’ve linked to is thinner material then mine. I’ve not seen anyone wearing a fashion one for a couple of years.

DateLoaf · 21/11/2020 20:06

MrsAmaretto do they make the workwear ones cut for women?

thetrees · 22/11/2020 15:27

@Zinnia I'd say it's pretty slim fitting. I tried it on again this morning

OP posts:
Zinnia · 22/11/2020 19:06

Probs not for me then @thetrees! Thanks for answering

WingBingo · 22/11/2020 20:08

Ooh can I share my jumpsuit?

Want to style it for winter but I was worried it was a bit last season.

Have boilersuits had their day?
dudsville · 22/11/2020 20:55

It's a type of utilitarian jumpsuit isn't it, they do come and go but they're here for now!

TotalBitch · 22/11/2020 20:58

Swit swoo @WingBingo! I think that looks lovely. Biker boots and a jacket maybe? Big statement necklace?

Disclaimer - I haven't got a boiler suit so no idea how to style them!

WingBingo · 22/11/2020 21:06

Oh yes @TotalBitch I have both so I’ll give it a go. Thanks!

crispinglovershighkick · 01/03/2021 12:01

OP because of this thread I found your boilersuit (which was by then sold out) and lurked until one became available and it's now the one I wear most.
Finisterre have just listed a green version if anyone on this thread has concluded that boilersuits haven't yet had their day.

ExConstance · 01/03/2021 12:52

Caithrae - WoW!! so much more interesting than the dull "That's not my age" woman who wears baggy beige corduroy.

Fromthegekko · 01/03/2021 16:56

I love that one the trees.

Im 5‘0. and 60 and have just got a sleeveless boilersuit in black from Lucy & Yak. It has a fitted waist and looks surprisingly flattering.

Loopyloututu2 · 01/03/2021 17:04

I hope not - I’ve just bought one and I love it. It’s sooo flattering (I was convinced I’d have to send it back even before it arrived - it was more of an experiment really!). Dh said it looks sexy and dd (15) who is the no1 critic said “all the mums will want one when they see you wearing it on the school run”! Grin

I actually thought they weren’t even properly “in” yet, never mind on their way out!
