Any ideas where I can buy something stylish and not too cutesy for a couple in their early thirties please? They have just moved into their first place.

Any suggestions much appreciated!

How much do you want to spend?

DepuisToujours · 10/11/2020 17:08

About £30 - £50 as a rough estimate.

Lovely house plant in lovely pot.

HollyandIvyandallthingsYule · 10/11/2020 17:11

Or go the other way and get an arrangement of dried flowers/foliage.

DepuisToujours · 10/11/2020 17:11

Oh yes, houseplant is a good idea, thanks.

Was also thinking something like cool wine glasses or cocktail glasses.

Bloom and Wild do flowers that come with a nice vase?

DepuisToujours · 10/11/2020 17:15

Thanks, I'm not sure about floral arrangements tbh... for some reason I don't know if they would be that into flowers.

Ohhhhh I'd totally go for wine glasses! I think decorations are a bit personal but nice set of glasses they'll use them for sure!

MrsMiaWallis · 10/11/2020 17:16

Yeah, some really nice champagne coupes

In that case it’d be the dried foliage/seed pods/etc. It’s very trendy at the moment.

But if you’re not sure it’s them I’d probably avoid as you either like it or you don’t!

Glasses are always a good idea, I think. Unless they already have a lot of stuff...

DepuisToujours · 10/11/2020 17:20

That's funny; one of the couple bought me champagne coupes as a housewarming present years and years ago Grin!

I saw some vintage wine glasses on etsy, which are coloured, embossed glass. Do you think they are a bit marmite? I like them, but are people normally put off by coloured wine glasses?

Could add a bottle of nice wine to go with them.

MrsMiaWallis · 10/11/2020 17:22

I'd love them!

HollyandIvyandallthingsYule · 10/11/2020 17:26

It depends on the glasses, I think. I’d love some and not others.

laudemio · 10/11/2020 17:30

Bit marmite, I'd love them!
H&M home has some beautiful stoneware jugs and platters. Look v expensive

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 10/11/2020 17:35

Very marmite, but then most things for the home are, aren't they!

Also depends on previous living arrangements.

You can't go too far wrong on in something that's designed to be fir occasional use though as then they won't feel they have to display it or use it all the time.

Nice cheeseboard & knives?

Really hard to say without knowing them.

MrsMiaWallis · 10/11/2020 17:50

I still use the large platters I got as a wedding gift 20 years ago, they are so useful. Lasted longer than the husband Grin

VinylDetective · 10/11/2020 17:50

These are nice. Enough money for a bottle of fizz to go with them.

Diptyque Candle

MrsMiaWallis · 10/11/2020 17:59

Ooh yes dyptique candle

That's reminded me of a story years ago when I had very little money. I had a newish, very rich friend. She invited me to her birthday drinks. I agonised over what to get her, then finally bought a diptyque candle at what seemed like vast expense (i wanted one for myself but could never justify it). I arruved early, she opened the candle said "oh lovely thank you" and put it on her huge mantlepiece where she had literally 12 other diptyque candles!

pineapplesareyellow · 10/11/2020 18:35

You can never have enough diptyque candles. Lovely idea. I moved house last year and received a fruit basket which was lovely, especially after so many flowers! Also received espresso cups, and lovely salad servers.

CuteOrangeElephant · 10/11/2020 18:36

That should get you a very nice Le Creuset stoneware dish

Jayaywhynot · 10/11/2020 18:40

A wooden cheese board with their names and a personalised message or a wooden plaque with their door number on it, iv just bought both, Google is your friend 😉

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 10/11/2020 18:47

Buy a knife. Robert Welch knives are great at around £45. Can't go wrong with a nice knife (unless you think they are a bit stabby).
