hair treatments - is Philip Kingsley Elasticizer the best that there is?

Received a deluxe sample tube of this in an M&S beauty box a couple of years ago. It has sat in the bathroom until yesterday evening, when I gave it a try. Wet hair, put in on, covered with a shower cap, washed it out and then washed my hair.

OMG. This morning, my hair is so soft, bouncy and smooth.

I have between jaw and chin length, kinky, fine, dry and fragile hair. Its now got more of a proper wave than kinky patches, tooks thicker and feels less dry.

I am wondering if I should have been using hair treatments all along. Is the Elasticizer the best that there is (its quite pricey to buy) or is there a good alternative for me?

I use Elasticizer and various Olaplex products - both ranges have helped change my hair for the better - less frizz, more shine.

I like the Aveda Damage Remedy intensive conditioner but think it's more or less the same price as Elasticizer.

Greenteandchives · 03/11/2020 12:50

Try the Superdrug on. It works for me. I can’t afford the Phillip Kingsley one.

Thats a bargain if it works for you Greentea. I think the Philip Kingsley is £19 for 75ml, and the Superdrug one is £3.99 for 200ml.

Another vote for the Superdrug one, it's very good.

JonHammIsMyJamm · 03/11/2020 13:04

Feelunique used to do supersizes of the elasticiser. It was much cheaper per ml than the little tubes or the tubs. It wasn’t cheap but you got about a litre of £70 or something. I’ll see if I can find it.

JonHammIsMyJamm · 03/11/2020 13:07

Here it is. Various sizes on look fantastic. Great value for money per ml for the big packs if you really love it and can afford to shell out. Plus you can get an extra 20% off the prices shown if you use the code listed (LFBEAUTY).

I think some of the Shea Moisture deep treatment masques are better.

WellTidy · 03/11/2020 13:15

Thank you. I am really tempted, as the saving is fantastic, but its a lot to pay all in one go. I have maybe two uses left in the tube and if I still love it, I will make a decision then.

OP posts:
WellTidy · 03/11/2020 13:18

WhereAre Do you follow the instructions and apply heat after you put the mask on? I know that I won't do this for the time they tell you to. I just wondered if the masks were as affective if you left the heat part out.

Elasticizer is pretty amazing, I've tried lots over the years and its definitely one of the better ones. Olaplex 3 and Virtue are my other favourites and also very good, but again pretty spendy. Like @JonHammIsMyJamm recommends I buy it online from somewhere like Look Fantastic, it tends works out much cheaper.

dizzyupthegirl86 · 03/11/2020 13:54

Are you on depop? There’s a massive tube on there for a tenner.

Twilightstarbright · 03/11/2020 13:59

I've never found anything quite the same as elasticizer, the others make my hair greasy even if I only do the ends.

WellTidy · 03/11/2020 14:01

I am dizzy but I can't see a massive tube for a tenner. Help!

dizzyupthegirl86 · 03/11/2020 14:08

Did you find it? It’s just changed to sold!

hummusandpitta · 03/11/2020 14:11

I was recently converted to the Cantu leave in conditioner and use it overnight as a treat once a week! It's cheaper and gives me the same results as elasticised did Smile

WellTidy · 03/11/2020 15:00

Oh pants. I missed it. Thank you for the link dizzy

Greenteandchives

Oooh you have reminded me, I have a tube of it in my drawer! I shall try it next tie I wash my hair.

stinky · 03/11/2020 16:04

Try Brand alley. £49 for the 1ltr tub. Best price I've seen it. QVC is next best about £60 for 1ltr.

FrappuccinoFan · 03/11/2020 16:21

I know this product is extremely popular and obviously works for a lot of people, but I don’t think it does much for my hair. I genuinely never notice a difference after using it, and I have tried the normal and the extreme.

Much prefer using a combination of Olaplex 0/3 and my kerastase conditioning mask.

FrappuccinoFan · 03/11/2020 16:24

Also Elasticizer is sold at a wide range of retailers such as M&S, John Lewis, feelunique etc. They all have offers on from time to time so may be worth shopping around or waiting.

There will most likely be some Black Friday savings to come

MidnightFlit · 03/11/2020 16:30

I think there's been a big packaging redesign recently so old-style stock will be filtering through Brandalley/TKMaxx at discount.
