What current fashions do you think will date badly?

I must say I haven't bought any clothes that are very "in" for a while.

It might be me getting older and losing touch, but I'm not a big fan of a lot of what i see in shops and online.

I don't think much to the odd oversized tailored blazers with cycling shorts and chunky trainers.

Which things do you think are really "in" as far as current fashion (or makeup) trends go and which things do you think people will look back on as the fashions of the 2020s and cringe?

It will happen....I thought the way I dressed was the height of timeless, classic style and elegance in the 90s, oh dear, how wrong I was!

Polo necks.

Trousers with skirts and dresses.

Big (flared) sleeves.

That whole mid length dress/white pointy ankle boots trend.
Holly Willoughby does that all the time, especially the skirt and white boots. I hate the boots!
I'm surprised to see the fashion crowd trying to convince us all pleather trousers/jeans are a good look. They're bloody awful.
Man buns. This generations mullet.

Fashion is quite boring so not sure if anything will particularly age, maybe the eyebrow thing. Dont understand ankle boot comment they are just a classic staple arent they?

Well I think ballet pumps are officially out?

But then again what did we wear before them?

Midi dresses with trainers and a biker jacket

It's interesting because as the years go by, your views on what's "classic" as opposed to what's "on trend" change without you realising. So for example, I think I pick plainer, classic items, but in decades to come, I might look back and not think that at all.

Oversized clothes seem very in at the moment. They look great on some people but somehow I just look like I've chosen the wrong size or borrowed someone else's clothes in them.

The midi lengths do nothing for me either. I wish they did, it looks so good on others!

Although, my DD (13) showed me how she wants to dress up for Halloween (no trick or treating but there's a hunt round our area of houses and our house and 4 of her mates houses are part of it so they're getting dressed up)
She showed me a MySpace era, early noughties, scene kid. Think side fringe, mirror selfie, emo
Or how I looked in around 2002/3.
For Halloween

I saw someone with the tracksuit bottoms with juicy on the bum. Hope that doesn't roll back around and is a one off

Most things but that's the point but here's my list

Too short trousers
Shapeless midi dresses
Dresses with white trainers
Clumpy trainers
Mom jeans (again)

Very high heels, especially with spindly heels.
Cold shoulder tops.
Massive floral dresses with chunky trainers.
Thick eyebrows and trout pouts.
I'm not sure if tattoos will go out of fashion, aren't we the most tattooed nation in Europe?

Those horrid painted on eyebrows. Natural thick ones look fine but the ones that look like paint. The lip fillers. Pouting in a photo. I think the ankle boots with a midi skirt/dress, not ankle boots per se. Drop tops that show your stomach. Jogging bottoms worn off the track/ gym. But as I'm in my 60s I know it will all come back round again and each time will be embraced as new and fresh! ( tank tops, Laura Ashley flowery frocks, frilly blouses, lace up long boots, pleather trousers.....)

I would never ever admit it in real life but I find man buns very very sexy on some men Blush

Cycling shorts with a super baggy jumper and a bum bag. Just...why? And I say that as someone who wore the whole trouser-with-skirt-attachment, "butterfly" handkerchief top and super baggy cargo pants with stringy bits hanging off in the 90s (the joys of Tammy Girl)

Oh, and gym clothes worn out and about. We'll definitely laugh at that.

It'll all date, that's fashion, some things may take longer than others but it will. All people are doing are saying what trends they personally don't like, there are lots of trends I don't like now but I'm not sure they'll date any worse than the trends I do like!

I came on to say massive eyebrows too - and those dresses /tops with the enormous poofy sleeves.

Wrap dresses and ankle boots however are classic imo! And have been around for decades!

Everything dates. I look at pictures of myself thinking I looked stylish and classical, well, not really! It all comes around. I'm glad the wedding dress fashion has changed, those strapless ones were ubiquitous.

CatherineTheNotSoGreat · 30/10/2020 10:02

I know everyone has them but those shiny leather or pleather leggings are flipping hideaous and I really cannot imagine they will age well.

But I said that before when Laura Ashley apron-y floral high-neck frilly huge-collared shapeless sack dresses were around the first time. Hah. How wrong can I be.
Just goes to prove a point, give anything 40 or 50 years and it will be a classic.

How I wish I'd kept my Laura Ashley dresses from 1981! (not really...)

those strapless ones were ubiquitous.

And more often than not very unflattering. Too much skin on display is not the best look.

Tattoos. Will be the saggy, wrinkly age-indicator equivalent of granny's blue rinse, only irreversible.

Absolutely agree. Lots of people have mentioned the hideous thick eyebrows. Yes to them, too

P.S.
I thought “ cold shoulder” garments had
already gone? They were truly awful.

Cropped, wide-leg trousers/jeans with trainers. Perfect combo to make you look stocky. Maybe stocky will be the shape we're all aiming for, but I doubt it.

@alwaystired234 the juicy tracksuit bottoms are not a one off, they are already back round for a second time! They were very popular on the early 00s.

Nothing wrong with big brows, as long as they are natural. Not a fan of the perfectly groomed look everyone seems to go for.
