What current fashions do you think will date badly?

I must say I haven't bought any clothes that are very "in" for a while.

It might be me getting older and losing touch, but I'm not a big fan of a lot of what i see in shops and online.

I don't think much to the odd oversized tailored blazers with cycling shorts and chunky trainers.

Which things do you think are really "in" as far as current fashion (or makeup) trends go and which things do you think people will look back on as the fashions of the 2020s and cringe?

It will happen....I thought the way I dressed was the height of timeless, classic style and elegance in the 90s, oh dear, how wrong I was!

Fashion is cyclical, so even the ugliest fashions keep coming back - cycling shorts being one example.
The thing is that we can look back and laugh at a bad outfit we wore once or twice.

The stuff that really ages badly is, imo, the (extreme) makeup trends. The extreme brows, very overdrawn lips, excessive highlighting and so on.
People will likely look back at this and realise they looked silly day in and day out.

I can’t wait for puffed sleeves to go out again. I am not Anne Shirley and they make me look twice as wide!
I like wide leg jeans, oversized blazers, crop tops and mom jeans though!

I think half tucked in clothes look stupid anyway. Either tuck all the way in or don't at all.

Cycling shorts woman looks like she forgot to put her skirt on over her spanx.

It's not caught on here in the northeast. Too bloody cold.

To be fair, I often wear, or did wear in warmer weather, cycling shorts, big t shirts and trainers. I work out a lot and dress for gym workouts. I think it's a practical look that isn't going anywhere.
I now mostly wear gym leggings, trainers, big sweatshirts.
I think those very strange big collars with everything, won't last long.
Trapeze dresses are versatile, easy to wear, and are going to stick around. Flares won't last long, it just rains too much

The whole 'giant plain shapless baggy top that covers your shorts/skirt' look that a lot of teenagers/'VSCO girls' are into

The cycling shorts and blazer thing seems very popular amongst Instagram influenced types my DD shows me all the time. It seems to be a very trendy look right now. sometimes with bum bag too. It's honestly lost on me.

This is an example of the blazer and cycling shorts combo, demonstrated by a model. Has no one else seen this? I've seen a lot of people wearing this sort of ensemble, especially in trendy areas of London.

Nope. Never seen that combo, but I'm not in London.

I think the painted on slugs look is already on the way out (to be replaced by "natural" or rather wierdly fluffy eyebrows.
Excessive contouring.
wierd nude outfits, like flesh coloured shorts + crop top or all flesh coloured tight dresses bleurgh
Facemasks. I think we will all be happy when those are no longer necessary.

Yep the Juicy velour tracksuit bottoms are deffo back with a vengeance! They’re selling then in Urban Outfitters which is the “alt-girl” shop of choice at the moment. DD and I were shopping in London on Monday and must have seen about 10 girls wearing them in bright pink or purple.

Yes to the ‘two slugs involved in a tense dispute’ eyebrows. Yes to fake leather anything - yuk and very sweaty. Those awful shell suits from the early 90s - just grim!

But I’m still fine with: mom jeans, the classic Laura Ashley dresses with lace collars (still have a couple but style them differently now of course) and a good tattoo - mine is also on an area of my body that’s less liable to give way to gravity!

Half tucked clothing. When it goes out, it will date every picture.

That is such a ridiculous thing. 🙄

Erm, I see I'm the 3rd person to notice the Juicy tracksuit bottoms! I saw a young woman wearing them on Wednesday night and that was the first time in at least 15 years!

Everything dates eventually so might as well just wear what you like now.

Ankle boots will date - not ankle boots as a concept maybe but the style of boot can certainly date a look. Type of toe, material used, colour, heel type, heel height, hardware...those white ankle boots are a perfect example. Or the ones with the clear plastic heels.

Another vote for the heavy eyebrows, heavy eye makeup, and heavy contouring. The last wedding I went to (a year ago), I just kept thinking that the heavy eye make-up the bride and her attendants were wearing would scream "late 20-teens" when people look at the wedding pics in a few years. And I was married in the 1980s, so know a thing or two about dated wedding fashion looks.

@MillieVanilla

That whole mid length dress/white pointy ankle boots trend.
Holly Willoughby does that all the time, especially the skirt and white boots. I hate the boots!
I'm surprised to see the fashion crowd trying to convince us all pleather trousers/jeans are a good look. They're bloody awful.
Man buns. This generations mullet.

Pleather/leather jeans are great though. They have never really been in or out since the 70’s. They don’t stain, go with everything and look a bit more dressed up without looking too try hard. My choice on a hand luggage min break.

Too much make up. Looks daft now let alone in 10 years. I also think tattoos but maybe more the full sleeve type - in the same way kids don’t drink as much as their parents.
Heels seem to be out at the moment -really hoping flats stay snd don’t look too 3020.

Huge eyebrows, pouts and that bad fake tan. Contouring.

I think really high heels have probably had their day for a while too.

Jeez that is hideous. Cycling shorts and 'mum' mules

Puffy sleeves will look dated by next year i reckon

Polonecks? They've been around since I was born 42 years ago and long before that. Love a good skinny ribbed polo neck.

The 'trousers had argument with socks' look, much in favour with teenagers at the moment. I live near a secondary school so I see them going in every morning, and they all look really daft - as though their legs have suddenly all grown 4" and their mum won't buy longer trousers for them.

Maybe they're expecting floods.

My DH wears Member's Only jackets, Hawaiian shirts and has grown a mullet and Magnum PI moustache. He listens exclusively to eighties music and watches things like Miami Vice. He is OBSESSED with the eighties so this revival is Heaven to him. Me, not so much.🥴
