What wellington or waterproof boots would you recommend?

My Hunters have needed replacing for a while so I started using a pair of knee-high winter boots with warm fleece lining, when I walk the dogs. However those boots are now letting water in somewhere because yesterday my socks were damp.

I can buy another pair of Hunters (waterproof but cold and not comfy) or I can buy a pair of warm, comfortable, and waterproof boots. But are 'normal' winter boots actually waterproof like wellies? Or do I need to invest in thick socks to wear with wellies? Any recommendations gratefully received. Budget is around £100 / £130 but could go higher for the perfect pair of waterproof, warm, comfy boots.

You can but Hunter socks,they are long and fleecy. They turn over at the top of the boot and the Hunter logo is on the front. Much cheaper than buying new Hunters.

Yes but my hunters are quite knackered so the sock suggestion wouldn't really work long term.

I bought some joules wellies recently, so far completely waterproof and comfortable.

There's a brand called Dubliner I think that also does waterproof boots if you prefer something more stylish than a welly.

I wear the blue wellies from the boys' range at ASDA ...

Le Chameau are nice. Narrower leg than Hunter.

Also Hunter are not as good quality as they used to be, since the owner died and they were bought by a Chinese company. Manufacturing was shifted from Scotland to China an instead of making the boot out of one piece of rubber like they did in Scotland, they now attach the boot to the sole, meaning that the sole often separates from the boot.

Lots of warm, waterproof walking/hiking boots out there. I don't know how long lasting any particular brand might be. Link is just to show you the type of thing I mean.

Dubarries are warm (and you can get liners) and waterproof, but if you want a warm welly Le Chameau

My dad, a farmer who was in wellies all day, would wear cheap wellies with expensive wellie socks. I also do this, works for me.

Le Chameau are really expensive but worth it if you need wellies a lot as they are warm and comfortable to walk on for a proper walk. I'm on my second pair in 5 years, so they don't last forever.

I love Sorel duck boots, they’re ugly as fuck but warm, waterproof and very comfortable. I can walk all day in them.

Le Chameau or Aigle neoprene lined wellies.

Expensive but so comfy and warm. Le Chameau are narrower on the calf than Aigle. I have Aigle Parcours and I’ve had them on every day to walk the dog since the weather changed.

I’m starting my third Winter in Ladeheid wellies from Amazon. Each pair has lasted a Winter, they’re cheap at around £20 and incredibly light and comfortable (never tried Crocs but apparently they’re the same sort of stuff that they’re made from) and very warm.

Just to add, each pair I’ve walked at least 6 miles in each day on muddy/wet/cold dog walks and they’ve lasted a full year before letting in water.

Agile parcours for me....with a welly liner if it is freezing. I used to love muckboots but my last pair rubbed my heels incessantly.

Should have also me mentioned that Le Chameau wellies are usually very narrow on the calf, so try them on!

Dublin River Boots - I wear them with walking socks and they are cosy & totally waterproof. Lasted 6 years so far with lots of dog walking

I have Joules wellies, they are waterproof and comfy.
