What wellington or waterproof boots would you recommend?

My Hunters have needed replacing for a while so I started using a pair of knee-high winter boots with warm fleece lining, when I walk the dogs. However those boots are now letting water in somewhere because yesterday my socks were damp.

I can buy another pair of Hunters (waterproof but cold and not comfy) or I can buy a pair of warm, comfortable, and waterproof boots. But are 'normal' winter boots actually waterproof like wellies? Or do I need to invest in thick socks to wear with wellies? Any recommendations gratefully received. Budget is around £100 / £130 but could go higher for the perfect pair of waterproof, warm, comfy boots.

Muck boots, I have a pair that are neoprene lined and have neoprene calves.
They are warm and waterproof as well as not being too expensive. I have these muckbootcompany.co.uk/collections/womens-short-boots/products/womens-cambridge-mid-boot-navy and they are so much warmer than my old hunters.

I have just bought some fitflop wellies. They have a really thick sole and and comfy

Dublin River boots have lasted me for years. Don’t let in water and are good in snow and ice. Expensive but have had them 10 years and still going strong.

Ariat windemere original or Dubarrys

Hunter Neoprene lined are really good. Mine are just giving up after 10 years & will be replaced with same model. Much warmer than standard Hunters. I have Reynauds & my feet & lower legs are always toasty warm in them with only regular socks.

Muck boots!

PeakyPaula · 31/10/2020 04:27

@Campalumpa I’ve been eyeing those up, what is the sizing like? Fitflop can vary so much between styles I’ve been reluctant to order any. how snug are they round the leg?

MrsMaryBOOface · 31/10/2020 04:31

I say this on every thread about outdoor boots, but Aigle Parcours with the neoprene lining are THE most comfortable welly ever.
I've had mine 8 years.
I can wear them all day.
Well worth the investment!

Another for Aigle with neoprane. Not sure which model mine are but they're great.

I wear them with thick Salomon knee high ski socks too - super, super warm!

Le Chameau or, if you fancy something a bit different, Grubs Boots. My husband has the Grubs and loves them.

Maybe half a size too big I would say. I got the bright pink mid calf ones and am very pleased

Girlzroolz · 31/10/2020 12:25

Sorel ‘Joan of the Arctic’ boots. Very warm & dry, definitely a step up from rubber wellies (however fancy).

Rainydays200 · 31/10/2020 12:29

Don’t get Hunters, they are not as good these days.

I have a pair of jack murphy wellies that are v good and get a lot of dog walking miles

oneglassandpuzzled · 31/10/2020 12:33

I'm nursing a bad bruise, caused by the fact that my Aigle boots have no grip at all. I slipped on a stile--for the second time. Friends in cheaper boots were fine. My boots were a present, I didn't buy them myself. They are very comfortable and non-sweaty but I am nervous now and only wear them where I know I'll be on flat ground.

reefedsail · 31/10/2020 12:35

My Dubarry sailing boots are bloody brilliant. I regularly stand in water right to the top of the boot for 10 minutes at a time, can confirm they are totally waterproof.

EdithWeston · 31/10/2020 12:40

My old pair of Dubarry pasted a good 7+ years, but they have changed manufacturing base since then and price has shot up whilst build quality has IME edged down. But if you can comfortably afford it, they're still a good boot.

I've got one of the Dublin range this time round. Way cheaper than Dubarry, they'll be within your price range. They're wider in the lag than I would ideally have chosen, but that might be an advantage for people who aren't spindly below the knee

ElspethFlashman · 31/10/2020 14:18

I have the Aigle Unisex Adults' Parcours 2 Vario. I just checked my email to make sure of the name!

Basically they're the Aigle neoprene ones with the adjustable width for the chunky of calf.

I absolutely love them, the soles are proper grippy. BUT. I think the neoprene is too warm. I think they'd be amazing if I lived in a colder climate but they're too warm for spring or autumn. I kinda wish I'd bought the plain ones and just worn a thick sock in the winter. More versatile year round.

That said, if you've got circulation issues you'd love them!

Never buy them full price though. The price on Amazon changes considerably. Use CamelCamelCamel and wait until you get a notification that the price has dropped.

Iv just bought a pair of grubs tideline boots and love them. They are very warm, neoprene, good grips and easy to get on and off.
