It's a store aged 40 I keep going to but I'm not sure the last time I bought something from there that suited me. The quality doesn't seem quite there, zips on coats are clunky to do up, tops don't drape/sit well - anyone else find this? I think I need to finally knock it on the head along with the likes of new look and Dorothy Perkins that I left behind in my 30's!

I’ve never bought anything in there. Tried lots on but nothing ever fits properly.

MikeUniformMike · 27/10/2020 15:10

My mum likes their stuff.

I think it is ok but not the sort of brand that I normally wear.

GreyHare · 27/10/2020 16:52

I used to like their stuff 6-8 years ago but the fabric and finishing have gotten worse and worse over the years, and the prices are incredibly high for something, I still have coats and shirts that have stood the test of time but they are all older stuff, the more recent stuff has been binned as anything jersey has twisted and become misshapen

emma6776 · 27/10/2020 21:17

I like the pj bottoms and some of the kids clothes. I’m 41 and it’s too grown up for me. I prefer Zara, Whistles or COS.

hammeringinmyhead · 27/10/2020 21:31

I have a couple of Bretons because I needed thick ones for my last, cold, workplace but it's generally too expensive for me.

I love this but not at £70 for polyamide and acrylic when I just bought 100% lambswool from Celtic and Co for £95.

IndecentFeminist · 27/10/2020 21:50

I used to have a bit from there, but the quality has definitely declined...as their prints have got more garish. I still have a few of their bretons as they're super useful for work.

LightOfAThousandStars · 27/10/2020 23:05

Quality has definitely gone down in the past few years. Their coats don't fit well on my hourglass shape, too tight across the bust and next size up just too huge overall.

OwlOne · 27/10/2020 23:09

I'm 50 but I've never bought anything from there.

I saw a polo shirt I liked once (navy with a few flowers on one side only) but it was sold out in my size.

Herdwick · 27/10/2020 23:11

I get passed a lot of secondhand joules Children's clothes from a SIL with a slightly older child. I've found two different items in the last 18 months that the fabric pattern is noticeably upside down. Even primark can generally get that bit right. SIL hadn't noticed but I did instantly.

BreakfastOfWaffles · 28/10/2020 02:59

I guess on paper I am probably the "Joules profile" but I always feel like I ought to own a dog or a horse to shop there!

MadisonMontgomery · 28/10/2020 07:15

I used to like them, but as with so many companies as soon as they get popular the quality goes downhill.

RedRiverShore · 28/10/2020 07:21

I bought a couple of cotton tunics from there and they shrunk, washed at 40 and hung on washing line

BikeRunSki · 28/10/2020 07:32

They did great woollen knitwear about 15 years ago, but I agree with pp, it’s too £££ abd syntheticy now. I want to like their Bretons, but they are too short in the arm and body for me.

They have a very distinctive style, abd out their logo on the outside of everything just to make sure yiu know it!! I did have a great parka from them once, that was brilliant at keeping me warm and dry, but I hated the big, bright floral lining. Nothing they do could be described as “discreet” or “neutral”.

RedRiverShore · 28/10/2020 07:43

I prefer Seasalt, FatFace and WhiteStuff which are all similar priced stores to Joules and are probably aimed at the same demographic. I find SeaSalt very good.

Svelteinmydreams · 28/10/2020 07:48

Like Breakfastofwaffles I am probably their demographic, complete with the dogs, but it’s just a bit frumpy for me.
I also prefer Seasalt or Fatface but in small doses too.

ApolloandDaphne · 28/10/2020 07:48

These are my favourite shops and we have them all in our high street. We also have a Joules but I almost never see anything I like in it. It is all a bit samey.
EspressoX10 · 28/10/2020 08:01

The cut of their clothes is decidedly odd.

They're baggy in the wrong places and tight across others.

OwlOne · 28/10/2020 08:02

I do love their Christmas jumpers though!

Could be tempted by a Christmas jumper.

DahliaGardener · 28/10/2020 08:30

I received a top from them last week. I was disappointed by the quality of the fabricit was actually see-through: you could see the white label through the navy blue jersey fabricand the garment flared out ridiculously over my tummy. I decided it must have been a maternity garment not labelled as such. The price was far too high for the item.

IndecentFeminist · 28/10/2020 08:35

I like a lot of seasalt stuff, much simpler in terms of colour and design

MikeUniformMike · 28/10/2020 13:56

Seasalt and Joules aren't in the same league IMO.
They probably appeal to the same people though (- my mum).

You think sea salt is better?

ballroompink · 28/10/2020 16:26

I used to really like their stuff 8-12 years ago but it's slowly declined in cut and quality and they slap those floral patterns on everything now. Really not my style any more!

MikeUniformMike · 28/10/2020 18:46

Seasalt quality seems better.
Neither shop is really my taste, so my knowledge of them is limited.
My mum (mid-70s) likes both but prefers Seasalt.

I've only been to the Seasalt shop once, and I saw things I liked. They go up to size 26 or 28, which surprised me. The thing I liked were a dress on the sale rail and they only had it in 20+ sizes :-( and some of the coats. I would go there again. Got my mum a dress, not size 20+, i hasten to add.

WeSearchedHereWeSearchedThere · 28/10/2020 20:01

I like Joules, their stuff is cut right for me! But I definitely agree on quality having gone down and they’re now definitely over priced. That plus the fact they do 25% off everything so often means I never buy anything at full price there.
