Joules

It's a store aged 40 I keep going to but I'm not sure the last time I bought something from there that suited me. The quality doesn't seem quite there, zips on coats are clunky to do up, tops don't drape/sit well - anyone else find this? I think I need to finally knock it on the head along with the likes of new look and Dorothy Perkins that I left behind in my 30's!

The problem for me with a lot of Joules stuff, is that it is made in China.

Suki2 · 28/10/2020 20:45

I bought a lovely Breton top from there this summer... but after a couple of washes (on a cool wash) it has shrunk so it is now unwearable. Very disappointing.

Fleabagster · 28/10/2020 20:49

I agree. I’ve ordered stuff but sent it straight back. I recently ordered a cream fair isle jumper but when it arrived it had sparkles all over which you couldn’t see on the website so another item sent straight back...

I always thought Joules made clothes for for children.

@ShrikeAttack

I always thought Joules made clothes for for children.
They do, and children’s clothes in adult sizes!
ShrikeAttack · 29/10/2020 07:52

@BikeRunSki

My point exactly!

OwlOne · 29/10/2020 08:17

some of these brands shoot themselves in the foot. I have this feeling that I'm not joules demographic and it's alienating. even though I have liked some of their bags, i work ft, I'm in an urban area, my teens are not in need of children's ranges, I've no dog to walk. So I would feel almost delusional visiting their site. but then i guess they have to have an identity. I'm just not it.

OwlOne · 29/10/2020 08:22

Interestingly though (to me) mint velvet that is aimed at older women does not alienate me. I buy the odd thing from them. There is nothing about their brand (apart from the price) that makes me think ''no that's not for me''

No models wearing the clothes as they track through open fields with two working dogs. The coats look like they're modelled in a park. There are Urban locations in the background.

I wonder if all of this is deliberate. I wonder if Mint Velvet seems too urban for people who live rurally / very remotely with dogs to walk!

I’ve also always said that Seasalt clothes are all styles/colours you could feasibly dress a toddler in too.

ArranBound · 29/10/2020 08:52

I love the Joules 'Rosamund' blouse. They bring out different prints each year and I find the shape really flattering and the quality pretty good. They certainly iron well. I also got a great denim jacket in the sale, but I haven't really tried many other styles. I like v-neck tops but they seem to do a lot of higher, round necks.

I wouldn't give up on them completely,but maybe look at White Stuff, SeaSalt, Boden etc.

SJaneS48 · 29/10/2020 08:52

Much like Boden, there are items I would wear but overall find their styles quite frumpy for the price (although Boden have improved). It’s all very safe and a bit dull, a bit of a middle class mummy uniform. DD has had some Joules stuff (and Boden) but by age 9/10 it was all a bit younger child looking. I really don’t mind spending £££ for pricier items if they are more standout but would go to Whistles, Massimo Dutti, ZARA and Hush for those - not exactly cutting edge I know but less dull!

SJaneS48 · 29/10/2020 09:16

At @OwlOne, I live rurally, have the dog, the wellies and the mud! I have a few Mint Velvet pieces but to be honest, I don’t think they’re very well made. The brand for me seems to be aimed at older, non London urban women who want to feel stylish still. Usually though I can finder nicer & better cut items within the same price point.

Happymum12345 · 31/10/2020 09:13

I love Joules clothes. I am a dog walking country mum in my mid 40’s though! I think some of the dresses are beautiful and hang really well. I mix it up and wear it ‘cooler’ clothes, but it is my wardrobe staple. I have my eye on this dress: www.joules.com/Women/Clothing/Aurelie/A-Line-Shirt-Dress?size=10&id=208839|BLUWHTFLR|10

LadyEloise · 31/10/2020 09:22

I have a Joules Stormont parka and preferred it to ( the raved about on here ) Seasalt Janelle

OwlOne · 01/11/2020 08:53

Just looking at the max mara weekend parkas. They're lovely, a real cut above the usual parka (well, ot my taste anyway). they're 25% off on bt website now. So not ''designer'' prices but still just as expensive as a north face coat.

OwlOne · 01/11/2020 08:57

Oh I meant to bput that on the parka thread

Oly4 · 01/11/2020 15:21

Fat Face and Seasalt are similar prices but much better quality
