Skin care for rosacea

DressesWithPockets · 22/10/2020 17:12

Having always had good skin I've developed rosacea in my late 30s. The GP has prescribed antibiotics, which seem to be helping, but I also want to the change skin care products I'm using because I think they are probably part of the problem. In particular, the moisturisor I use stings a little when I put it on.

So... I know nothing about this stuff. Does anyone have any recommendations for a range of skin care products that are particularly good for rosacea. I'm mostly bothered about the moisturisor, but recommendations for cleanser and foundation also welcome! Thanks.

I watched the Bad Skin Clinic on TV and the girl on there with rosacea was given cerave cream to use as a moisturiser

ivftake1 · 22/10/2020 17:29

Niacinamide, azelaic acid, double cleansing and retinol

ivftake1 · 22/10/2020 17:30

Check out The Ordinary and Cerave.

I use:

The ordinary niacinamide in the mornings, followed by cerave moisturiser, then the ordinary Squalane

Then the same but in the evening I use azelaic acid instead of the nia

And was also told to wear suncream every day on her face

I have rosacea and found this helpful:

NeoStrata Redness Restore

Medication-wise - I opted not to take antibiotics but have found Rosex cream (prescription only) really good at keeping it under control.

Blogdog · 22/10/2020 17:36

I use the NeoStrata serum instead of using a moisturiser.

Yes 100%. Sunlight is a trigger

I found any anti ageing type cream with active ingredients is awful. Soothing rose based cleansers and moisturisers work best for me.

ruthieness · 22/10/2020 20:15

If I were you I would ask to see a consultant dermatologist as GP's are not always expert in this field

Some sufferers report great results with Soolantra (invermectin)

Stormyisland · 22/10/2020 20:20

Soolantra is the only thing that has helped me. Mine was horrendous and went completely with it. Ask your gp to prescribe. Mine took about 2-4 weeks to get rid of all of it.

I now have other skin problems though, mainly weird pigmentation. I'm pretty sure it's all down to having never have used sunscreen and being in the sun loads.

Things I tried and didn't help at all.. Various skincare products (list would probably be too long to even repeat), antibiotics, tea tree oil, rosex.

Fartleking · 22/10/2020 20:35

I tried a lot of different medications and moisturisers but the one I have settled on and used for years now is Clinique. The redness solutions line has cleanser, moisturiser, green tinted cream for flare-ups, foundation and powder. Since lockdown I've not worn makeup but use the tinted city sunblock 40spf. It is all oil free which I was told was important for keeping it under control.

Thanks everyone, really appreciate it. This gives me loads to research/consider.

I've just watched a YouTube video by Nadine Baggott about a product called Rosalique.

Sunnywaves · 23/10/2020 18:08

Sorry, Dresses it was an instagram tv.

KaliforniaDreamz · 23/10/2020 18:09

Soolantra
prescription only though, can send GP pics if u cannot attend surgery.

This tackles the demodex mites. I am sorry to be the bearer of that news!

slidingdrawers · 23/10/2020 18:12

Another vote for Soolantra. A private prescription via a dermatologist cleared mine up permanently. Dermatologist I saw recommended the Bioderma Sensibio skincare range but I've not needed to use this as the treatment resolved mine.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 23/10/2020 18:14

In my experience: cetaphil cleanser and moisturiser, azelaic acid cream from The Ordinary, and if that doesn’t work, Soolantra.

blitzen · 23/10/2020 18:55

I got a private prescription from Superdrug for soolantra recently. I had to stop after a fortnight as my skin became worse and spread further down my face. Anyone else? Wondering if it gets worse before it gets better? Might be worth another shot if so. Skin back to 'my normal' after stopping it for another fortnight.

CrystalMaisie · 23/10/2020 19:17

I got Soolantra, prescribed by my gp. Cleared up my rosacea a treat.

stevalnamechanger · 24/10/2020 00:31

Watch Dr Sam Buntings videos on care for it .

Also check out skin and me / Dermatica for dermatologist prescription via mail and photo / consultation . It's a fab option if you can't afford a private derm

Blogdog · 24/10/2020 09:26

@blitzen I had the same experience with Soolantra so unfortunately it doesn’t work for everyone. Rosex did work for me though.

I also find certain foods trigger my rosacea - if I eat cured meats (ham, salami etc), and red fruit and veg (strawberries, raspberries, red/yellow peppers) I will wake up the next morning with a red and angry face.

BoulangerieBabs · 24/10/2020 09:36

Soolantra definitely makes rosacea worse before it gets better, you have to give it a few weeks to work and power through.

I use dermatica now and my blend is tretinoin, niacinamide and azaeliac. This is to work on ageing, redness and hyperpigmentation.

blitzen · 24/10/2020 16:52

Thanks, @blogdog and @BoulangerieBabs. Good to know. I might give it a better go, just need to muster up the courage x

DailyCandy · 24/10/2020 16:59

I had Soolandtra prescribed online... uploaded a pic...no live consult required.

Fcuk38 · 24/10/2020 17:02

Depends whether you have type 1 or type

  1. I have type 1 the redness only. I used niacinamide, tea tree oil, borage seed oil and sunscreen. For me it’s not about getting rid of the redness I have had it since a teen and many family members do to so it is what it is. But for me it’s improving skin tone, so the skin looks smooth as it can.
