Skin care for rosacea

Having always had good skin I've developed rosacea in my late 30s. The GP has prescribed antibiotics, which seem to be helping, but I also want to the change skin care products I'm using because I think they are probably part of the problem. In particular, the moisturisor I use stings a little when I put it on.

So... I know nothing about this stuff. Does anyone have any recommendations for a range of skin care products that are particularly good for rosacea. I'm mostly bothered about the moisturisor, but recommendations for cleanser and foundation also welcome! Thanks.

Dermatica told me they didn’t offer rosacea treatments. I might try them again!

Any ideas where I can get azelaic acid at a reasonable price? Ordinary and boots sold out for weeks now...

On the plus side I got niacinamide in superdrug.

What type of rosacea?

I have atypical acne rosacea, in that my skin is just red and blotchy but I don’t have any triggers. My skin is just red all the time, but not warm to the touch. I don’t flush and I don’t have spots either.

I se niacinimide, glycolic and salsylic acids to try and retain smoothness as I can’t get rid of the redness. I love the Erborian range for make up - the green cc cream and the bb creams are just perfection for me. Shame they’re so expensive!

I have tried the following:
Finacea - worked for about a year then lost efficacy. And it stings.
Doxycycline - gave me a stomach upset
Some other cycline - kept spots at bay, but those were only hormonal and skincare keeps them at bay anyway.
Soolantra - literally did nothing for me.
Metrogel - also did nothing for me.

I haven’t tried Rosex. I have been discharged from the derm clinic now as they can’t offer anything else but I have been approved for laser - fingers crossed I still am when COVID finishes as I had my first appointment cancelled because of it!

Mustard, is the laser supposed to help with the redness? I'd be very interested to hear how you go

G.O.W. Garden of wisdom azelaic acid from Holland & Barrett is good stuff.I’ve had laser & ipl and they helped reduce the redness associated with Rosacea.Ive also realised that when I have a flare up of ibs my Rosacea gets worse. So I try & eat fermented foods & kefir regularly which really help. Also fish oil/ flax seed oil have an anti inflammatory effect. Other than that a simple skincare routine , in my case Cerave cleanser, moisturiser and Clinique sunblock & make up.

Teta, what was most effective for redness? Diet? My friend has had ipl and said it was useless. My skin is good now except for the red cheeks and chin and I would do anything to get rid of that

@Elllllle - so when I saw the nurse, she explained that the redness happens when a blood vessel branches out where it shouldn’t be. The laser effectively closes off those branches. Laser probably won’t work for flushing rosacea, and for redness that is purely because of pustules, but if it’s blood vessels then it should work. I’ll be honest, I didn’t expect for a second to be approved for it on the NHS as mine is annoying, but tbh I’ve seen a lot worse.

I’ll repost here once I’ve had it done.
