Should I get eyelids fixed?

Cornucopia55 · 19/10/2020 08:44

I don't know what to do! I'm 46 and in pretty good shape generally, size 12, but my upper eyelids annoy me. They're droopy. I don't wear much makeup anyway but would like to glam up a bit occasionally. I've never had any cosmetic procedures done. I just feel like these age my face so much. I'd appreciate some advice Smile

Should I get eyelids fixed?

I think that would be a bit drastic. Can you just experiment with make-up to enhance them? You have nice eyes. Make the best of what you have.

Cloudhopping · 19/10/2020 08:47

If you were my friend OP, I’d tell you that you have beautiful eyes, lovely skin and to try and accept the things that you think are not perfect. Stay away from the knife.

Cornucopia55 · 19/10/2020 09:04

Thank you @Cloudhopping and @Savemyusername01 for your kind comments. I'm kind of glad the first responses weren't "Go get a surgeon" Grin but I want to be open minded. Tbh I'm not keen to get anything done but I'm a scruff and incompetent with makeup and am at the stage where one day, I might want to go dating etc again, so I'm trying to think about how to be more presentable. Are these what you call hooded eyes?

Yes, mine are the same. It's natural ageing. At first they bothered me a little, I looked different to how I'd always looked. Now I'm used to it they are just my eyes. They work and for that I'm grateful.

You don't need to do anything. You have very pretty eyes and beautiful skin.

mytimeonline · 19/10/2020 09:14

I think if you are well put together and use colour, suitable clothing, accessories and makeup to enhance what you have then you will look fine and for dating
I wonder how men enhance there looks as the age

Savemyusername01 · 19/10/2020 09:15

It would be far less drastic to watch a few YouTube videos on how to apply eyeshadow and mascara. It doesn’t have to be fancy or complicated.

Happyspud · 19/10/2020 09:16

This is normal. And from what I can see you look great. You can't turn the clock back but you can treat yourself with a bit more love and acceptance.

Gatekeeper · 19/10/2020 09:27

OP you have lovely eyes and have absolutely no need for surgery

Woolysock · 19/10/2020 09:28

I have the same OP, it does annoy me but looking at what happened to Renee Zellweger reminds me to not to do anything!

Now you put it like that, I feel a bit daft Grin. Yes, I should relearn the normal arts I guess. Thank you.

Oh gosh, she looked better before! That is worrying. But at the same time I imagine that when someone has had a procedure done well, you wouldn't be able to spot it iyswim. But I can see that this is not an easy thing to do right. Helpful link, thanks.

My eyelids are a bit like this and I’m 30.. I don’t often wear eyeshadow as you can’t really see it once it’s on. I’ve just come to accept that’s how my eyes are.

You do have lovely eyes. I don’t think it looks ageing, I think it’s just one of many different types of eyes.

I would be a lot more concerned about letting someone loose with a scalpel around my eyes.. and it’s an area where if the surgery is even 1mm out, it will look really wrong and change your whole expression.

Eyewhisker · 19/10/2020 10:03

You could try botox which would lift the brow a bit, and at least is temporary. But agreed - beware of going for perfection and looking like someone different

nevertrustaherdofcows · 19/10/2020 10:13

My mum had this done aged 80 , one eye at a time, because there came a time when she simply could not see - particularly when lying down. she had to raise her eyebrows as far as they could go just to keep her eyelids up.

she recovered easily and looked great afterwards.

Savemyusername01 · 19/10/2020 10:24

I saw someone who had it done and I thought the scars were worse than the original eyelids. I also know someone who had their lower eyelids done and he has little white stitch marks all in a row under his eyes and it was done several years ago. I know that is a different procedure but I would look carefully into the results first.

OhTheTastyNuts · 19/10/2020 10:27

Mine are the same OP. I'm 42 and have definitely noticed it in the past couple of years.

I'm not brave enough for surgery so am just embracing it! I never use eyeshadow (even when I was younger you couldn't see much of my upper lids so there was no point), but mascara on my upper lashes really helps. I use Maybelline Great Lash, it's not overly dramatic ans doesn't smudge!

You can get Wonderstripes which stick onto your upper lids and are a temporary fix. I've not tried them, but they look like they'd be good for special occasions etc.

Mmmmdanone · 19/10/2020 10:35

I've tried the eyelid stickers and they are good- bit fiddly to put in the right place but they're cheap and work for a quick fix. I haven't had them on for a whole day though and slightly worried the would come unstuck but they seem pretty secure for a few hours! Also it's nice to see what I look like without the saggy lids. It definitely gives a more awake and youthful look. I would consider surgery if I had the money though although it's a bit scary!

Ninkanink · 19/10/2020 10:37

Don’t do it.

Watch some tutorials on make up for hooded eyes.

Embrace your changing beauty - youth is not the be all and end all.

Mumdiva99 · 19/10/2020 10:44

I have eyes like you and this is the only cosmetic surgery I have considered. I did also think of trying the botox for the brow to see if that impacted them at all. But only got as far as phoning a local clinic a few weeks before my wedding. They said they wouldn't touch me that close to the wedding in case I reacted badly. I haven't been motivated enough to call back. I just watch a few episodes of Botched and count my blessings. Lol.

mocktail · 19/10/2020 10:46

Your eyes are a beautiful colour and that's what I'd notice.

I've realised with everyone wearing masks at the shops at the moment that you still recognise people easily when the lower part of their face is covered. Eyes and the area around them is so fundamental to what makes you look like you. Don't mess, I reckon!

Cuddling57 · 19/10/2020 10:47

Some people's eyes are just like that - it's not always ageing.
You have lovely eyes - leave them alone Grin.

Snozwanger · 19/10/2020 10:50

You look like you've got lovely eyes. I would try experimenting with makeup first for a while. I have hooded eyes like you and cake across a woman purely by chance who puts videos on Facebook teaching how to apply makeup if you have hooded eyes. What she's does is so clever. Try searching for Kasi on Facebook videos. Look for an American lady with blonde hair.

TheBitterBoy · 19/10/2020 10:51

Caroline Hirons has had this done, mainly because it was starting to affect her vision I think. She's been very open about it and has blogged here www.carolinehirons.com/2016/07/my-eye-surgery-story.html

ordinaryordinary · 19/10/2020 10:55

My eyelids are hooded. I don’t like them but I also think as PPs have said it is too risky an area to muck about with, I have my sight and am thankful for that. I also think if an A-lister like Renee, with the funds to pay for a top surgeon can get it wrong then I would have no hope!

Things that do help though are using heated eye masks to make sure they not puffy as well as that exasperates the tired appearance. Dry eyes get clogged up with fatty deposits. Eye drops help with this too.

I also have eyelash extensions, it’s not for everyone I know but I have quite subtle ‘classic’ lashes and it means I don’t need mascara.
