Should I get eyelids fixed?

I don't know what to do! I'm 46 and in pretty good shape generally, size 12, but my upper eyelids annoy me. They're droopy. I don't wear much makeup anyway but would like to glam up a bit occasionally. I've never had any cosmetic procedures done. I just feel like these age my face so much. I'd appreciate some advice Smile

And yes, your eyes are absolutely gorgeous. That’s what people will notice about your face.

LaurieFairyCake · 19/10/2020 10:58

I had Botox above the brow to lift them

It was very subtle, no weirdy surprised face - no one noticed apart from me

The heaviness of my lids made me feel tired - now they don't

She put it just above my eyebrows in a series of tiny injections

AzraiL · 19/10/2020 11:04

You have lovely eyes, OP. They look striking and soulful.

My eyelids are also hooded. My doctor advised that if (due to ageing) they start disrupting my line of vision then it becomes a medical condition and we would start the process of having them corrected. But if it doesn't happen, I won't touch them.

I would say the same thing to you - if they're not disrupting your vision, and there's no medical reason to intervene - just leave them be.

ISeeTheLight · 19/10/2020 11:14

I have hooded eyelids like yours.
My grandmother had this surgery but had problems with closing her eyes and blinking after, so I wouldn't risk it.

Woolysock · 19/10/2020 12:02

Hi OP have you thought about eyebrow shaping or even micro blading? Well shaped eyebrows can really open up the eyes. If you are london I can recommend 2 micro bladers who are amazing, eyebrows look so natural.

trumpisaflump · 19/10/2020 13:40

Just to give you a different opinion I'll chip in. I had an upper blepharoplasty age 44 (two years ago) and every time I look in the mirror I'm thankful for it. My eyes were much more hooded than yours and it was really bothering me. My thoughts were they were only going to get worse over the years so I wanted to get it done before they got really bad.
Botox didn't help mine and the surgeon who did my eyes said Botox can make it worse as it freezes the forehead. It was done under local anaesthetic and my scars are barely visible now in the crease of my eyelid.
It's up to you and you need to weigh up how much it's bothering you. I feel I look much more rested and youthful now.

Cornucopia55 · 19/10/2020 14:13

That's really interesting @trumpisaflump - good to hear it worked out so well for you. I do want to keep an open mind for the future, but it seems there are lots of non-surgical things I can try for now.

I was wondering if crafty eyebrow shaping would make a difference, @Woolysock, though I feel very out of touch with the current trends. I spent 20 years not taking much notice of these things and now eyebrows have become a Big Deal! Not sure where to start. I will read up and find out what microblading is.

Have a look at Sugarpuffandfluff on YT. Nisha has similar eyes and has done several videos on how to disguise them. They look great. Also, Angie on HotandFlashy.

waitrosetrollydolly · 19/10/2020 14:53

I had mine done about five years ago . Upper and lower ( as had bags starting to appear ) I don't think the scars are visible. This is me with no makeup on as I'm WFH today.

You have beautiful deep-set eyes, OP. And lovely skin.

iwanttolookbetter · 19/10/2020 16:25

You can get non-surgical procedures that help. Tixel can make a subtle difference for example and there may be other things a clinic could recommend if you contact them. But I second having a look at makeup tutorials or trying the sticker things first or just not bothering with anything other than that because you do genuinely have lovely eyes.

Cornucopia55 · 19/10/2020 19:50

Thank you so much for the suggestions, and for the kind comments which I really wasn't expecting Flowers. It's been a long time since I thought anything nice about my eyes, apart from they are brilliant at seeing since I had LASIK 15 years ago. Actually that's the only operation I've ever had so I certainly shouldn't be rushing into surgery Grin. Sounds like I need to get on YouTube and start making an effort.

Gosh @waitrosetrollydolly, that's really good. I'd never know you'd had anything done. Thank you.

Oh great, I'll subscribe to them. I'm so crap at makeup my youngest kid laughs at me when I wear it so I could do with some tutorials Grin. Thanks.

You have lovely eyes! Although I do know someone who had some loose skin removed from her eyelids and the result was amazing and so natural. Hers was genetic rather than age-related.

MushMonster · 19/10/2020 19:57

You do have very pretty eyes, with hooded lids. There is a very specific way of applying make up to them. I think they are quite rare, and I find them very striking.
You can find tutorials online. Elongating the eyes woth the shadow and making the lashes pop with mascara makes them look very pretty.

Gatekeeper · 19/10/2020 20:08

i actually find hooded eyes very attractive and have done even when I was a young un. Sean Pertwee , Charlotte Rampling etc. No coincidence my dh has them

princessTiasmum · 20/10/2020 13:46

I had mine done many years ago, and was really pleased with the result
I recently had my left one done on the NHS as it was affecting my vision, because of bells palsy, i can wear eyeshadow again;and makes such a difference
It isn't a big operation, but up to you to decide

Janegrey333 · 20/10/2020 13:50

I agree with those suggesting you are cautious about surgical intervention. You don’t want to have eyes that don’t look like yours any more. Your eyes are nice as they are.

princesspenguin · 20/10/2020 13:55

OP you have lovely eyes and beautiful skin.

But, like you I also have excess skin/hooded eyes and I'm 29 so not necessarily because of ageing, although I do feel they make me look older. They bother me so much. I look tired and grumpy all the time. My mums are the same and almost cover her eyelashes now.

Having surgery is definitely something I'm looking into. A family friend had it done and she looks so "refreshed" and still like herself.

I have hooded eyes and have noticed an improvement with daily use of a Nuface device (has taken years, mind). Or look into face yoga. If you place the length of your forefinger about a centimetre above each eyebrow and lift, if that gives you a noticeable improvement then it may be worth working on the forehead muscles somehow to lift the eyes.
