I picked one up in next today - grey in colour .
I’m not sure if it looks like a dressing gown though!
Or are they just for grannies ?

I bought a navy one from Tesco. It's shaped more like a coat than a cardigan - sharper lines rather than slouchy. But it's so light and comfortable. It's my new favourite thing, especially in this weather where it's a bit chilly but not cold enough for a big coat.
I'm really pissed off that all my nearest big Tesco's are in lockdown areas and I can't go and buy another one.

I don't mind them.

However ...

I offered my octogenarian mother a beautiful Toast version for her birthday last year. She said she wouldn't be seen dead in anything so frumpy. And that it would make her look "like one of those old women". Hmm

We had words about stereotyping and ageism - and she got a new bit of tech for her birthday.

I have one from Zara from a few years ago and love it. It’s more like a coat with straight lines and doesn’t have any fastenings it just hangs/folds over at the front. It’s grey with a black leather trim

YukoandHiro · 09/10/2020 08:36

I love them

Lol. I agree with her - they are pretty frumpy. It’s the length, I do have a couple from COS of all places. Thought they would have got the frump thing sorted!
Janegrey333 · 09/10/2020 13:34

Correction...

It’s the length. I do have a couple from COS of all places. (Should have proofread!)

I must be ahead of the trend (or behind it)
I have had mine since 1987. It comes out each winter.
A thick long cardigan thing (minus the shoulder pads

Mylifesadrama · 11/10/2020 18:21

I have 2 I love them. Mine look as smart as a coat but without the added thickness. No belt on neither, so I can safely say they do not look like dressing gowns.

bendmeoverbackwards · 11/10/2020 18:50

Love the Claudia Boden one.

What do you wear underneath though? You can only really wear a shirt, long sleeved tee or jersey top. You can’t wear a jumper underneath can you?

Esmeralda1988 · 11/10/2020 21:36

@bendmeoverbackwards I wear a thin jumper at most under mine, otherwise a t shirt/top, its quite fitted. Good for days that start off chilly then end up being hot by lunchtime. The Claudia one is pricey but it's really thick and good quality, I got mine (grey and tan) last year on sale but eyeing up the current maroon version too. I've had a lot of wear out of the one I have so it's worth it to me but would only buy again with a discount of some sort.

CottonHeadedNinyMuggins · 11/10/2020 22:35

I have this one (hopefully the pic has shown up) Very cosy and very warm (and surprisingly thick for a coatigan too!)

Would you wear a coatigan ?
EwwSprouts · 11/10/2020 22:46

I have this in dark purple. Hangs well. www.tkmaxx.com/uk/en/women/clothing/jackets+coats/jackets/dark-grey-wool-knit-coatigan/p/56015875

Love my coatigan from M and S .Black grey and white checked so good for wearing with jeans

NeedWineNow · 12/10/2020 13:40

I've got several and love them. None of mine have a belt or collar so no dressing gown vibe here. I wear mine with jeans or leggings when it's not cold enough for a coat with a lightweight jumper or long sleeved t-shirt.

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 12/10/2020 13:45

I used to have a couple, they were fabulous!

I used to wear them everywhere...so useful.

Silverstreaks · 12/10/2020 14:50

I've got three.

Tan edge to edge, knee length with big patch pockets and fish tail. Very smart or casual depending on other gear.

Cream knee length button belted chunky knit. Bought for maternity but still a useful.

Blue fluffy knee length with side pockets. Ridiculously big, ridiculously man made fibre but the best thing for days that are cold but you can't bring yourself to switch the heating on.

MonkeyGoneToHeaven · 12/10/2020 15:34

Glad to see fellow coatigan fans here. I have three - pale grey from Selected, about two years old, a camel one, with a hood, Hush current season and charcoal one, no hood, again Hush current season.

I ordered two from Hush so that I could decide which one to keep, but ended up keeping both.

I like them with leather skinny jeans, ankle boots with a bit of a heel and a slubby white t-shirt (Hush again).

@Miisty do you have a link to the M&S one please?
