I picked one up in next today - grey in colour .
I’m not sure if it looks like a dressing gown though!
Or are they just for grannies ?

I came on to say I've got a grey one from Next! So I might be biased but I love it Grin

I have a dark turquoise very plain jaeger one which always gets compliments I wear it with a navy or black dress
I also have a button up one from massimo dutti that can be worn as a sweater dress - it’s also reversible so can turn round and wear as dress with buttons up the back

I bought this coatigan from urban outfitters in 2016 I think?

Still wear it almost daily in this sort of weather.

I just love the word ‘coatigan’. They aren't really a definable thing though. They vary from large dressing gown like woolly cardigans, to more elegant lightweight coats.

Whatthebloodyell · 07/10/2020 09:30

‘Shacket’ is another word I like.

It's a bit too close to "shart" for me (sorry to lower the tone).

I have 3 and love them all. One from Sainsbo's last year, one from a charity shop and a recent one from Asda. I love them at this time of year - get too hot in winter coats and find them too bulky, Coatigans fit the bill perfectly.

KaliforniaDreamz · 07/10/2020 15:41

Bought one, looked ridiculous, gave it to (taller) my sister, she looks fabulous.

Putmynewshoeson · 07/10/2020 15:44

I want one but I'm pear shaped and short and suspect they won't be my friend 😭

Iseeyoulookingatme · 07/10/2020 15:46

I've got 3 and love them I often wear them at this time of year as it's not quite cold enough for a coat yet.

GoldfishParade · 07/10/2020 16:19

This is a tall peoples thing tbh. I think it makes most average to shorter people look a bit hobbity!

JoJoSM2 · 07/10/2020 16:25

I’ve got this one and love wearing it. Don’t know if I’m kidding myself, but I feel it looks less frumpy on me than the model.

Just came on to say this! I was going to say I hate them but probably because I am short!
nitgel · 07/10/2020 16:28

i have a few, my fav are two knitted tweed wool coats/cardigans that are v long from Uniqlo.

LadyIronDragon · 07/10/2020 16:29

Whaaaat? Tall people thing. You wash your mouths out.

I'm 5ft3 and look tres chic in mine its from Asda Wink

2beautifulbabs · 07/10/2020 16:32

I love them I've just recently bought a new one so handy during the colder days

MissPoldark · 07/10/2020 16:34

I couldn’t, I imagine it would make me feel a bit sad in an Elinor Oliphant kind of way (I seem to remember she had a coatigan)

BikeTyson · 07/10/2020 16:40

I also have a grey one from next, it’s probably the same one! I’ve been wearing it quite a bit lately, it’s easy to throw over a T-shirt and jeans on the nursery run but a lot smarter than the hoodie I was previously wearing.

sunshinesupermum · 07/10/2020 16:45

Love mine - they are comfy and cosy, can double up as loungewear when it's too cold to wear out of doors. I have four!

pinkyboots1 · 07/10/2020 16:53

I have one that I absolutely love, fab with jeans, T-shirt and boots

PeaceLoveAndCandy · 08/10/2020 05:45

I am a short pear and would wear a coatigan, it's about finding the right one. For me, it would have to be quite smart and not too bulky, but I can definitely pull it off. The Claudia one is lovely, not 100% keen on the neck, but I thinks it's massively overpriced.

J Crew do a lovely one, not cheap either:

noodlezoodle · 08/10/2020 07:17

I have a couple and absolutely live in them. However I do avoid ones with belts as they feel a bit too dressing-gowny.

smileannie · 08/10/2020 22:02

I’ve have a grey one from Next too. It’s perfect for transition weather. Also had lots of compliments on it too. I think I’ll get another Next one in another colour

PH03b3 · 09/10/2020 08:27

Live in mine in the winter as I'm in and out of my car I don't want a big coat and it's too cold for me to wear a thin cardigan I find them perfect.
