Seasonal colour analysis - does it work??

As above really! I’m either, according to different sites soft autumn, warm autumn, true autumn or very occasionally spring!
I’m just not sure about the colours suggested. I look shite in pink yellow or orange.
My hair colouring has naturally changed over time from being fairly bright auburn to a muted reddish brown. But as a redhead with green eyes I always looked great in black.

Is it all just a load of rubbish- I’m having a midlife wardrobe crisis Confused

It works for me.

When I wear my best colours, I get more compliments that I look well etc.

It’s made my wardrobe simpler because everything works together.

If you have the cash, I’d say get it done.

SpeckledyHen · 05/10/2020 18:35

It 100% works and save a fortune in wrong purchases. House Of Colour are a great company to have your colours done with . I’m not connected, but a very happy customer. I’m autumn leaf , also known as true autumn.

MsAnnFrope · 05/10/2020 18:57

Thanks. What is your colouring like if you don’t mind me asking @SpeckledyHen?

Darklane · 05/10/2020 19:32

Yes, definitely.
I’m Spring, Blue Spring to be exact, would never had imagined that but the colours make me look healthy instead of sickly pale & make my turquoise eyes pop where my old black always made them look muddy grey. I too was a redhead, bright coppery red which turned snow white in my early thirties so I’d thought I would be winter or summer.

BlackberrySky · 05/10/2020 19:38

I had this done a while back and it's made shopping so much easier. I have a palette of about five as your colouring does change slightly over time. colours that I generally stick to so everything goes with everything else. You need to have it done every ten years or so, as asas

ChickensMightFly · 05/10/2020 19:43

It's brilliant! I was massively sceptical but my sister bought me a house of colour session for my birthday and it was a revelation. Grin
It isn't the colour is the shade and they don't tell you what you are, you go through a process of comparison so the conclusion you come to is clear to yourself and you can see without doubt what works and what doesn't.
But it isn't just which set of colours work best for you, you also find out which ones in particular are especially great, and if a colour you really like doesn't work well on you, they suggest ways you can include it in your wardrobe without it detracting from the positive effect of the better colours

scrivette · 05/10/2020 19:48

I had it done after I was given it as a gift. I was hugely sceptical at first and couldn't 'see' it, then suddenly I 'got' it, I was amazed and I was able to work out which colours didn't work for me.

It makes shopping easier as I can look out for colours that I know suit me (and colours to avoid).

ChickensMightFly · 05/10/2020 20:01

Shopping is so much easier afterwards as you can whizz straight past the stuff that is no good for you and home in on the good stuff. As time goes by your whole wardrobe works better together.

MsAnnFrope · 05/10/2020 20:06

Oooh I’m tempted. Although frankly my clothes would all look better if I lost some weight!!

NW2SW · 05/10/2020 20:13

I've had it done at work, so not the whole shebang, but it was enough for the woman to point out that very few colours suited me, even black and white look shit and that I should stick to "earthy tones" (read: grubby). Wasn't exactly confidence boosting Grin

SpeckledyHen · 05/10/2020 20:38

@MsAnnFrope

Thanks. What is your colouring like if you don’t mind me asking *@SpeckledyHen*?
I have auburn hair , hazel eyes and freckles.
FinallyHere · 05/10/2020 21:03

I'm a big fan. Growing up, I had a mother and sister very interested in fashion and clothes. They just knew what to put together and what suited them.

I had to learn it and was very lucky to find a HoC consultant to show me 'my' palette.

It turns out, that colours from the same palette look better all around us. It's interesting to look at works of art and see what palette they use.

Even very very sceptical DH was convinced when he saw a chain that looked liked exquisite pics of jewellery lying on material of one palette look more like a loo chain on a bed with the 'wrong' palette.

Get a recommendation for a consultant and enjoy.

[Pastel blue autumn].

toffee1000 · 05/10/2020 21:12

I’ve also got auburn hair and come out as an autumn when I’ve done an online quiz. Unfortunately the autumn palette just looks miserable to me! So much brown. I do not want to walk around looking like a turd, thanks. It’s also got hardly any blue in it, and I’ve often been told I suit blue.

MsAnnFrope · 05/10/2020 22:14

@toffee1000 yes I wear a lot of green but rarely brown. Although my mum dressed me in brown as a toddler (Child of the 70s) and it did suit me. It’s the yellow and coral I can’t get on board with!

I had it done in the summer as I had tried online self diagnosis and really struggled as to whether I was warm or cool skin tones. As it turned out I was difficult to place. I did house of colour and I'm a brown/soft summer. I thought it was brilliant. It takes a while to get the hang of things when shopping - I still prefer shopping in person rather than online as it can be tricky getting the right colour match online.

BexR · 05/10/2020 23:12

It's great. I assumed I knew what suited me - black and all shades of blue. Nope.

I'm a soft summer and once I stuck to my colours I actually received compliments for the first time! Do it!!!

nevermorelenore · 05/10/2020 23:19

It seems to work for me. I'm a cool winter and I like wearing black, white, and bright red, blues and greens. I get a lot of compliments when I wear bold colours. My worst colours are earthy tones, which do make me look washed out and tired.

Catname · 05/10/2020 23:37

Tonal analysis (Colour Me Beautiful) works better than seasonal analysis because it works on the three elements of colour to describe the colours in your palette. If you are a redhead, I doubt black is as flattering on you as other colours (that aren't just muddy brown).

amieejust · 05/10/2020 23:41

Colour Me Beautiful is a body shaming organisation in my experience.

Susannahmoody · 06/10/2020 02:17

It totally works. I'm a bright winter, so lots of jewel colours 💎

I had mine done by HoC, and tbh I found it a total waste of time and money. However, hearing about the experience of others, mine was nothing like their’s. With hindsight, my mistake was simply to book the nearest consultant via their website. I would suggest not going to anyone without a couple of personal recommendations, even if you have to travel further. Mine was rushed, formulaic and although the consultant kept going ‘wow, amazing’ I couldn’t see it. The other women there agreed with her, until we got back outside, and she said ‘well, that was excruciating, and I didn’t see what she was going on I about either’. She was only interested in up selling style and makeup, not in explaining how we could use our colours, or where we sat within the season.

BigBadBox · 06/10/2020 10:41

I'm a blue eyed redhead and have been analysed as a Bright Spring, which is the best season for me but not quite right. I think some colourings just don't fit into the categories well. This is quite good knittingtango.blogspot.com/2008/02/redhead-color-typology.html

FinallyHere · 06/10/2020 15:16

Oh, I'm so sorry you had a bad experience with colour and style analysis, cherries. I do agree though that getting the right person is key, much more important that whatever system they use.

The underlying colour (and geometry ) theory is absolutely a thing. How the consultant applies it to you and makes it possible for you to see the results for yourself makes all the difference.

DH is the worlds biggest skeptic and even he was persuaded by quite early in the session. He bought some things following the guidance and was quietly pleased and reassured when his Italian colleagues admired his style.

NotMeNoNo · 06/10/2020 21:02

I've found it very helpful. I'm clueless about style and cant judge colours or looks for myself or follow celebrities. I'm a WInter and although it was sad to lose my tan boots , all my wardrobe goes together now and I'm more focused about it all.
