Breastfeeding what I'm wearing today

Ginfilledcats · 27/09/2020 12:33

Would anyone be interested in a thread a bit like the wonderful "what I'm wearing today" and the "plus size what I'm wearing today" threads which are both brilliant (but I've been too shy to post on)

I'm trying to find my fashionable self again but in the restrictive world of breast feeding friendly/post partum lumps and bumps covering world and would love to see and participate in a thread for inspo.

Anyone think this is a good idea?

I do! Would definitely join. I'm breastfeeding and pregnant so have the double whammy.

Nefelibata86 · 27/09/2020 19:16

Yes please. Though am getting to the stage can be more flexible than a button up shirt. Today I wore a long sleeved top tucked into a mini but no issues pulling the top up to feed

QforCucumber · 27/09/2020 19:17

I'll join however today is not a good example - braless, h&m clip vest and joggers. Can tell I've not left the house today Grin

Verytired2019 · 27/09/2020 19:49

I’m only 5 weeks in so wearing husbands T-shirt and hoodie and some old grey joggers!!!! But would like to see some styles when I’m less stuck under a baby.

RiskIt4Biscuit · 27/09/2020 20:12

I'm in a merino wool turtleneck jumper with a bodysuit underneath and Spanx jeans.
I've recently changed from nursing bras to my normal bras, and I've really missed it. Nursing bras are comfortable, but I feel better in a nice bra.

I used to wear button down shirts, but I'm so tired of it - I've been breastfeeding for a long time (20 months - and junior does not seem to want to stop, so we'll keep going for a bit longer).
If I'm feeding somewhere where I want to cover up a bit, I use a blanket or a large muslin.

Findahouse21 · 27/09/2020 20:15

I'm wearing a long primark black vest (covers my bum) and a cropped chunky knit grey jumper (primark) and skinny jeans. Black nursing bra - I can't feed in a normal bra at all.

LemonDrizzles · 27/09/2020 20:22

Jojo mamen blue and white dress that is four years old, stretchy and comfy. And yes I'm in the act now!

ImaSababa · 27/09/2020 20:37

Three weeks since giving birth (c section) and I've mostly been wearing my black ASOS maternity leggings and a series of pyjama shirts on rotation. Plus granny pants to accommodate maternity pads. Glam!

Moooms · 27/09/2020 20:44

Ooo I love this!! My baby is 16 months and still looooves bfing!

I tend to go for a vest top (with a nursing bra) under another top/jumper, so I can do one up, one down.

Today I wore a vest, with a long sleeved top over it and a black dungaree dress with leggings.

I'd share a photo, but I'm already in my PJs now!

Ginfilledcats · 27/09/2020 22:14

Oh yay so pleased you are into this!!

To all you mums in the early early weeks I feel you - baggy T-shirts and leggings/joggers were my life!!

DD is 16 weeks and EBF.

Today I wore normal (as in not maternity) new look Hallie jeans (in a size...or two...bigger than my pre pregnancy size but hey they are comfortable!!), knee high boots and THE BEST SHIRT ever from H&M - classic simple white cotton shirt but with ZIPS UP THE SIDE SEAM for easy access. And a jacket when I went out.

I’m in jeans and a T-shirt from a fab independent called Altered Apparel.
I want one of their jumper dresses for the autumn as they look so nice!

My little one is nearly 2 and still at it, she mainly feeds every bedtime, sometimes in the night, in the morning and once during the afternoon....I’ve been wearing a lot of dungarees lately which are brilliant for BF and also playing on the floor etc. I also have lots of vest tops from Primark which I wear underneath whatever else I’m wearing so I can pull one top down and the other up. I also wear normal bras or sturdy crop top type things - nursing bras are so uncomfortable and unsupportive. I’ve never found a good one. Oh I miss dresses without buttons though...

TBH I really feel it’s time for me to stop but dd just loves it so - I have i idea how to wean her off and would feel so cruel forcing her to stop.

Ginfilledcats · 28/09/2020 08:23

@BumbleFlump I miss dresses that don't have buttons, or that aren't wrap dresses too! And skirts / jeans with tops tucked in!

I've been tempted by dungarees despite my husband hating them. Where are yours from?

We're off on a day trip out today to national trust property so I'm thinking jeans and stripey long sleeves top, with a feeding vest underneath, Barbour wax jacket and trainers.

I wish I could wear sports bras or crop tops but my breasts are HUGE now. Best bras I got are from hot milk!

I like this thread! My DS2 is 13 weeks. I’m just starting to contemplate normal clothes again - as long as I have a nursing bra and vest underneath I can probably manage now. It’s so liberating not to be restricted to button up tops now that he can find the nipple without a wrestling match!
I like the idea of dungarees for feeding in too - never had any as I’m a short arse and not sure they’d suit. But have been thinking about getting a dungaree dress to wear over leggings.
Today I’m wearing jeans, nursing vest and will put on some sort of warm long sleeved top over the top when I go out.

BumbleFlump · 28/09/2020 10:00

Ginfilledcats I have a few pairs of plain and some leopard print coloured Run&Fly dungarees (the cord ones are nice for winter) - they also do patterned ones but I find those a bit much. Sainsburys have also done some great ones in the past, they have some new ones just in but I’ve no idea what they’re like.
I prefer mine fairly fitted with a bit of structure in the waist otherwise they tend to hang off my boobs which isn’t ideal.
They’re great for lazy days in. Will try and post a pic later, once I’m dressed 🙈

Montgomerystubercles · 28/09/2020 10:27

I got some beautiful feeding sports bras recently - I'm trapped under a napping baby currently but I will find the name of them later! It only took 4.5 years of searching, before that I had some zip front ones from shock absorber.

Now it's cooler I find it much easier with bf friendly clothes - vest top under something and I'm good to go, it's in the summer when you don't want to wear two layers and do one up one down, but equally don't want to reveal folds of sweaty mum tum every time you feed when out (and especially challenging when feeding in the sling; sweaty mum tum being cheese wired by carrier straps is the worst!)

Today I'm in chinos (the only jeans that fit are in the wash), white long sleeved pregnancy bf T-shirt with a normal t shirt over the top. If anyone knows of a non pregnancy, white, long sleeved cotton bf t shirt I would love to know, this has been the single most difficult item of clothing to find.

RiskIt4Biscuit · 28/09/2020 10:42

Faux leather leggings and a blue checked (lumberjack-style) shirt, tucked in at the front.

I was in nursing bras for a long time, but changed to normal clothes very quickly as I didn't really like the nursing tops and dresses. I just didn't find them any better than normal clothes for breastfeeding.
I personally really rate the Bravado nursing bras as the clips do not come undone, which I've struggled with with other brands.

But it has been so nice to go back to my normal clothes and normal bras - nursing bras are definitely not made to look good or to lift anything.

It has made a massive difference to how I felt about myself - I went from feeling like my only job in life was to feed my son to feeling like my old self again.

BumbleFlump · 28/09/2020 10:58

Run&Fly teal cord dungarees
Orla kiely for Uniqlo top (old)
Primark vest top

  • Will change the birkis for some funky yet comfy New Balance trainers when we go out

Can i join please! DD is 4mo and EBF. I FF my first so this is all new to me and I tend to live in tunics and leggings with a nursing bra. It’s all so unattractive and a bit more attention to my outfit would do my positivity levels a world of good Smile think I could do with some ideas!

BabetteAteOtemeal · 28/09/2020 11:06

Yay great thread OP!!

DS 2 is 10months and a boob lover. I feed him a lot in the sling (a skill I urge you all to master!) so this also limits what I wear.

Anyway today I'm in Adidas leggings, an old white long sleeve top and wore a massive etre Cecile hoody on top. Not particularly bfing friendly tbh but I could've made it work.

Its all about the layers for me: vest top underneath and nicer top on top. And always top and bottoms, usually jeans which is boring.

I begrudgingly like Hush as a lot of thier things are bfing friendly. And of course Monki!

Ds2 will be our last baby and I am soaking up all the bfing loveliness and can't bloody wait until I can just be me again and wear what I like ha

lookingatthings · 28/09/2020 18:33

Today I'm in last year's ASOS maternity dungarees, black polo neck, and DMS. And my all time favourite nursing bra from hotmilk. It's really supportive and a bit sexy and it must makes me feel a bit more "me".

Ginfilledcats · 28/09/2020 22:45

@RiskIt4Biscuit I totally agree I feel so much better about my self a d like my old stuff now I'm back mostly in normal clothes!

@BumbleFlump you look amazing! And those dungers 🥰

Welcome @Lemming20! Nothing wrong with the tunic look but plenty on here already with great alternatives

@BabetteAteOtemeal yes to finally bring cool enough to wear layers. The summer was a nightmare (DD born in June)

All great outfits to all I haven't mentioned. Dungarees seem super popular. I'm strictly a skinny Jean type of gal! Can you get skinny legged dungarees or would they be super uncomfortable?

Ginfilledcats · 28/09/2020 22:49

Oh I actually ended up wearing a super soft grey jumper from Joules today with a white feeding vest underneath from Aldi of all places but it's one of my faves.

I also wore my favourite feeding bra which instead of those fiddly clips has magnets! It's SO much easier! That being said I still gave the ducks and an elderly couple a right eyeful of my right breast when DD unexpectedly swung off me!!

Then jeans, boots and Barbour jacket!

OhRosalind · 30/09/2020 18:12

Can I play? Wearing my cosabella nursing bralette which is SO comfy, DS is one and a half and I can’t believe it took me so long to find something decent in a small back/big cup size that doesn’t look matronly.

Wearing a Sezane scoop neck knitted tee, can pull it up or down to feed. Khaki button down shirt over the top, jeans and Stan smiths.

Minesril · 30/09/2020 18:18

I've been breastfeeding for six months, have been living in vest tops and am getting very fed up with them! I recently bought this dress from new look which is so flattering and can be pulled down to feed!

My nursing bras also came from new look. I was very impressed with the speed they arrived, it was a couple of weeks into lockdown and they arrived next day! Very comfy they are too.
