Reusable Sanitary Pads and Reusable Cotton Pads

I'm looking into trying these. There are so many options it's a bit overwhelming! Does anyone have any recommendations?

I’ve got the reusable panty liners from cheeky wipes. I’m not sure if I’d recommend them as I’ve not tried any others to compare. They’re quite big, and they do move back as you walk. I use a nappy pin to keep them in place. I also only wear them if I’m wearing tightish jeans, otherwise it feels even bigger.
On a positive note, they don’t leak or smell, and they wash well.

ItsTooGoodYouKnow · 25/09/2020 18:25

Oh thanks - I was just looking at the Cheeky Wipes ones. By a nappy pin - do you mean a safety pin?

The Bloom and Nora ones look lovely - has anyone used them?

Yes I am a massive convert! Nora and bloom are fantastic. They are very soft and amazing, no leaks and you feel so much more secure.
Will never ever go back to plastic horrible throw away ones

Cherrylipbalm · 25/09/2020 19:11

Sorry bloom and nora

ItsTooGoodYouKnow · 25/09/2020 19:12

@Cherrylipbalm how many did you get and which ones? They do look nice and look like a nice shape

Unfortunately reusable products are literally non existent on the high street.
I used their website and bought 2 different pads can't remember the style but in all honesty (is bamboo, cotton etc) they seem the same apart from the sizes ...one regular and one mini but I'd say they are far bigger and absorbent than you expect. Personally I could probably just use mini ones but I also have maxi for night.
In the end I bought 4 pads and i sing their praises.

purpledagger · 25/09/2020 19:28

I have invested in period knickers rather than pads. They DDs sooo comfy. I have some from Waka and Modibodi. The only downside is that they are quite expensive (£20+ a pair).

I bought reusable cotton pads from eBay and love them. The downside is that they stain, but I don't have this problem, as I mainly use them after I have washed my face.

justawoman · 25/09/2020 19:32

I use the fairy hammocks from Weenotions. Extremely comfortable and never leak. The heavy flow ones (which I need for almost my whole period) are a bit bulky so I can’t really wear trousers with them, but I wear them round the house and then wear skirts or use a disposable pad if I’m going out.

ColdCottage · 25/09/2020 19:44

Using my first cheeky wipe one today. Soft, comfy abs not moved. I'm wearing jeans.

homemadecommunistrussia · 25/09/2020 20:16

Refill shops near me sell them and I think Holland and Barrett, sainsburys do period knickers, which is great.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 25/09/2020 20:21

Cheeky wipes are brilliant.

They wash well and easy to use.

I have the cotton thin pads in various sizes and the bamboo ones. The bamboo are thicker but so comfy.

I’m a total convert, I wouldn’t want to change back to disposable plastic backed pads.

I have an old ice cream tub and I soak them in there til there’s enough for a wash. I rinse then chuck in with the normal washing. There’s something satisfying about washing and folding them.

Also they are so comfy!

NannyR · 25/09/2020 20:24

I've tried several different brands and the ones that I prefer are Imse Vimse - they wash and dry well, are long but not bulky and stay put in my knickers. I've used them for five years and they've still got plenty of wear left, so very economical. I have six and a couple of smaller pads and liners from other brands and that takes me through a period without having to wash any.

QueenOllie · 25/09/2020 21:10

These have been great for me
https://www.etsy.com/shop/RagHagShop and I wear honour your flow slim mega overnight

itsmeagainagain · 25/09/2020 21:12

I'm a recent convert to reuseable pads and pants. Like @nannyR I like Imse vimse best. I also have Nora and Bloom which are also really easy to use. I have 2 pairs of cheeky wipes pants which are very good but they aren't a high enough rise for me so I keep them for overnight because they dig in to my (slightly fat) stomach and then sort of roll down a bit under my stomach and annoy the hell out of me. The absorbancy is fab though. My number one tip for any of the pads is to wear big tight fitting knickers as they will really hold it in place. Think big bridget jones knickers a bit like shapewear. I have a couple of pairs of these from Primark which I have purely for wearing pads as they are so comfy and the pads don;t move around. Haven't used disposable pads in about a year. I do have fairly light periods though...

ILoveMyMonkey · 25/09/2020 21:30

Another vote for cheeky wipes. I've got loads of them - never had any problem with them and I wear them with dresses, jeans, tights, in bed. I buy the nighttime ones because I like them being longer. Never had any leaks, no smells, love them.
@cannaethink are you sure you have them the right way around, if you run your finger along the side which goes against your pants you want to make sure they aren't smooth way round or they slip, when you run your finger along you want the fabric to resist against you so it doesn't slip in your pants (not sure I explained that well) friction is your friend.

MilkyBarsNTears · 25/09/2020 22:08

Just marking my place to come back to this thread tomorrow (knackered), as I’ve been thinking about this for ages too!

Itisbetter · 25/09/2020 22:14

Modibodi...so expensive but soooo comfy

Whatwouldscullydo · 25/09/2020 22:16

Honor your flow
Tcs eco
Lady days

Those are my faves.

adagio · 25/09/2020 22:17

I’ve got some that are due to arrive tomorrow from the nappy lady - I got a cheeky wipes liner and a trial multi pack of Charlie banana in a few sizes, and a baba and boo - whoever that is. I liked the bloom and nora style but wasn’t massively blown away by the prints. I’ll let you know how I get on next month 😁

cannaethink · 25/09/2020 22:35

Yep, definitely the right way round @ILoveMyMonkey it doesn’t seem to make a difference for me!
@ItsTooGoodYouKnow a nappy pin is a safety pin that has a wee bit at the end that you need to pull up to undo it. Like a safety safety pin 😁

Filiboom · 25/09/2020 23:38

I have Cheeky Wipes pads and really like them. I also have their period pants, which are good, but have since discovered Modibodi period pants which are so much better. Comfortable, high waisted and really absorbent. I use the heavy flow ones as I have fairly heavy periods. They work well for exercise too and can’t be seen under leggings, which certainly isn’t true of the pads! Still like my
Cheeky Wipes pads, but use them now for nights or when I’m at home and don’t have clean pants. Yes, the modibodis are expensive, but I think they are totally worth it in terms of comfort and convenience and just wish I’d bought them sooner.

I also have the Cheeky Wipes bamboo and minky circular make-up remover pads. Very highly recommended too! Would never go back to cottonwool pads now.

brimfullofasha · 26/09/2020 08:34

I have TCS eco and Nooby Noo. Both are great- comfortable and don't slip. I have cheeky wipes pads too but don't get on with them as much.

I like the cheeky wipes make up removing pads though.

Fluffycloudland77 · 26/09/2020 09:07

I bought a menstrual cup off eBay for £3 and that works too.

pearlypidge · 26/09/2020 09:19

I hated the cheeky wipes reusable sanitary pads - they felt really really bulky, and moved around.

But I love period pants! Modibodi, wuka, flux are all good. As PPs have said, they are expensive, so I've been buying a pair every month or so and gradually building up to the number I need for a period. They are soooo comfy, and no leaks.

If you're looking also for cotton makeup remover type pads, then I think bamboo pads wash better, but they can be a bit scratchy. Loads on Amazon (cotton and bamboo).
