I'm looking into trying these. There are so many options it's a bit overwhelming! Does anyone have any recommendations?

Modibodi sound promising!

I couldn’t get on with a menstruated cup, but am SO sick of disposable sanitary products. Heavy periods here, too. Apologies for being graphic, but can period pants cope with a heavy flow? I flood badly the first 3 days of my period and change a tampax and towel every 1-2 hours 😬

Presumably I couldn’t just wear the same period pants all day?

And on the washable pads front - would I need as many pads as I use disposable ones? I probably get through 8 a day and that’s with tampax too!

menstrual cup

Milky i use modibodi heavy/overnight, and even on my heaviest days (would usually go through a tampon in a few hours) I usually manage with 1 pair during the day and 1 overnight; very occasionally I change a pair mid afternoon.

They reckon they hold 4 tampons worth, and I would say that's probably about right.

I've just bought a couple of wearemout pads from next. Haven't used them yet but will try them next cycle and see how they feel. I'm not 100% sure about not using tampons though as I've relied on them for thirty years now, but will see about switching to washable pads and will take it from there.

@Filiboom I'm looking at the Cheeky Wipes reusable cotton pads. Can I ask what you use on them? Just wondering if the bamboo ones will suit me...I use them with oil to remove make up and also use them to tone and apply glycolic acid.

@brimfullofasha can I ask which type of Cheeky Wipes cotton pads you have? And what products do you use them with? I use oil, toner and glycolic acid. I did buy a 'bamboo' set from Amazon but I'm fairly certain they are actually synthetic!

Honour Your Flow have a terrible name, but great products. I liked the range of dark colours available. Lots of different sizes available.

I bought these when I was first trying out reusable pads www.amazon.co.uk/Rovtop-Reusable-Sanitary-Washable-Menstrual/dp/B07CZ93GCT/ref=pd_aw_fbt_img_3/258-8265561-0112803?psc=1&pf_rd_p=58fa8946-33c9-4b65-bb31-913f21c8cfd2&_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_wg=J9Mq2&pf_rd_r=347RFQCB583P8YNJ9B7T&pd_rd_i=B07CZ93GCT&pd_rd_w=17e2U&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&refRID=347RFQCB583P8YNJ9B7T&pd_rd_r=d36488eb-be24-4060-aecd-c120e9d9a6f6

They aren’t pure cotton but they’re so much cheaper than most others on the market that they’re seemed like a good place to start. I’ve now built up a small collection of cotton ones too.

These Amazon ones are still going strong 3 years on though. So would recommend.

Filiboom · 05/11/2020 09:14

Hi there. I use just about anything on them.... Oils, lotions, glycolic acid.... (I’ve also used them to remove nail varnish, which is why something of them now have red streaks, but doesn’t affect the use!).

I found

earthwisegirls.co.uk/

When looking for my girls. They have a really good description of the difference between the brands.
Also recommend the pants - my teen daughters love these bamboo pants

There is a face book group called Bloody Waste, it,s ran byt the company Earthwise girls. It,s quite good for questions and advice. I find fuzzibunze ones too slippery.

GreyishDays · 05/11/2020 09:39

I’ve got Honour your flow and Rovtop

The HYF are lovely. I like being able to choose a colour so I can see a bit how ‘full’ it is (sorry!).
The Rovtop are very cheap, but feel much bigger and also move around a bit.

Both wash fine in a normal wash.

personwifemum · 05/11/2020 09:41

I bought Thinx from ASOS. Expensive but keep an eye for ASOS doing 20% off.

There are generally two kinds of products in the reusables market... mass produced Chinese imports, and handmade UK products.

The Chinese pads tend to have a PUL back - it's a waterproof but slightly slippy feeling fabric. They are also mainly made of manmade fabrics and are not always exactly what they say they are (the "bamboo" is often a mixed fibre fabric mostly made of polyester and other plastic based fabrics).

Then there are the UK made ones, mainly made by one-woman businesses in small batches. These tend to have fleece backings and cotton toppers on the CSP are much more comfortable to wear (no slipping). They are more expensive but at least you know they were made in a good working environment and not a big factory somewhere in China...

I like Crimson Moon CSP and cotton pads, and also some of the brands already mentioned like Lady Days, TCS Eco. There's a Facebook group called CSP Approved Sales Group where all the makers guarantee they have set standards.

I recently moved to reusable sanitary towels and I love them. Comfortable and feel secure and I find my cramps are less intense - I read that the chemicals used in disposable sanitary towels and tampons can make cramps worse. I buy from Comfy Monthlies on Etsy, which has a good range of prints. Think I have the galaxy and pansy prints which are dark
