Beauty Pie

Does anyone have a Beauty Pie membership and if so is it worth it? There are different membership options and I'm just trying to work out what's the best value in line with how much I might typically purchase each month. I want to use it for the odd product for myself and also to buy gifts for birthday / Christmas like candles etc. Thoughts / experiences welcome!

I’m on month 2. I have a £10 per month membership and so far spent £45 last month and £40 this month, supposedly saving loads on the ‘shop’ price equivalent products.
The products are lovely but the website is terrible and the products I like are often out of stock!

Heptember · 19/09/2020 12:15

The stock control is appalling.

tinkerbellla · 19/09/2020 12:41

I recently tried it and cancelled straight away as the product quality is poor.

The primer is ok but the cream blush is waxy and doesn't blend. I got one of the eye shadow palettes with four shades that look a bit like the Chanel ones. The colours are lovely but the texture is thin and without pigment. I also got a foundation sample and it was chalky (was meant to give a glow).

It's a shame as I love the idea behind the site. Cancellation was easy but you have to stay with them for three months or they will charge you the 'full' price listed on the website for the things you've already bought. There's absolutely no way in hell they are worth that. I'd put the quality around the same level as cheaper a Boots range. Maybe the skincare is better as the best product is the primer by far.

plunkplunkfizz · 19/09/2020 15:55

I also cancelled as soon as I could. Found it very hard to use the site, stock issues, products not good, patronising emails. There was literally nothing I liked about it.

BabCNesbitt · 19/09/2020 15:59

Im underwhelmed by the makeup (although I like the concealer), and the perfumes smelled pretty cheap and nasty, but I do really like the skincare stuff - the retinol range has been brilliant for me, especially the hand cream. Also, I’m very superficial and like the packaging. Agree, though, that the supposed full non-discounted prices are laughable.

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 19/09/2020 16:01

Yes id agree with the others

Not overly impressed by the makeup but i like the skincare as its giving me a chance to try new things

GoBackToPartyCity · 19/09/2020 16:04

I’ve had the £5 membership for about 3 months now. To be honest I’ll probably be cancelling in the next couple of months if their stock problems don’t get resolved. I’ve been waiting for their concealer to come back in stock for about 5 weeks now and it’s still not expected to be back until October.

PerditaNitt · 19/09/2020 17:44

I’ve been a Member for a year and have had a consistently good experience. I’ve liked about 80pc of the products I’ve bought. Skincare has been consistently excellent and delivered results, especially the serums, bodycare has been so-so and a little overpriced and make up has generally been good (foundation is almost as good as my Armani one, eyeliner, eyebrow pencils and powders have been nice, lipsticks are so-so). Stock can be a pain, but I generally keep an eye on what I’d like 2-3 months in advance. Prices have gone up a little over the year but I think it is still decent value. I know it isn’t that important, but the packaging is lovely.

I’ve renewed about a month ago mainly for the skincare. I prefer buying skincare this way compared to going to beauty counters (where I get overwhelmed). The product descriptions on Beautypie are pretty spot on for skincare

JuniperSling · 19/09/2020 22:47

I had it for a year and then cancelled a few months ago. Their products are nice ~ nothing special though, and definitely not worth what they say the full price should be.

The things I liked most were the retinol eye cream and the orange body butter. The worst were the foundations ~ I bought two, trying to match to my usual one with their colour matching thing, and they made me look like I had jaundice.

SuperDuperJezebel · 19/09/2020 23:04

I like it, similar experience to @PerditaNitt I would say. Ive found what I like and I'll stick to that, mostly skincare and make-up, I think is brilliant. Shampoo and conditioner I didn't like at all.

Anotherlovelybitofsquirrel · 19/09/2020 23:32

I'm a member and have been for a year or so. The make up is not great, though there are the odd very good bits but a lot of the skincare is fabulous.

The business model is utterly shit. They are often really rude, their skincare routine advice is terrible . Their marketing is cringe and either passive aggressive or just rude. Marcia Kilgore is very rude to members on SM and pretends they're " just a little start up" when she's actually minted.

Stock control as pp said earlier is bloody awful. The good stuff is always out of stock and takes months sometimes to come in. They have the most absolutely ridiculous RRP prices which they cannot give any supporting evidence of and they really don't like being questioned about it. They re-introduced a previous product that sold for £23 ish and re introduced it at nearly £40! It was only when people kicked off that the settled on £28.

They blame everything on COVID-19 whereas a lot of it was like that before.

They started by saying more members meant lower prices - it hasn't, it's just meant less stock.

They suspended membership fees for 2 months during early lockdown to "help" members BUT they put the prices of most stock up, claiming the prices would go back down when the membership fees started up again - the prices did NOT go back down.

They decided " we" the members would all donate to charity buy them putting the price of items up and then donating that money - in their name!

I'm cancelling soon when I have spent my credit. They got greedy and it will be the end of them.

Anotherlovelybitofsquirrel · 20/09/2020 10:42

...and I killed the thread BlushGrin

Howzaboutye · 20/09/2020 10:48

Yes the stock control is pretty bad. Which is a poor show due to all the info they can get from the website only purchasing.
I applied to be the new stock manager, but didn't get an interview (my professional area). And the stock hasn't improved since then.
Website is annoying, especially on a mobile.

She also started fitflop.

Howzaboutye · 20/09/2020 10:49

The primer is AMAZING. And the eye crayons are terrific.

wizzywig · 20/09/2020 10:50

Im in the minority then. Been happy with the items. The products themselves are nice big sizes. Makeup has been longlasting

slipperyeel · 20/09/2020 10:54

I was a member for about a year and enjoyed it but cancelled recently as I like trying new things and once you add everything up it’s not that cheap.
I mainly use make up as my skin is so reactive to skincare but they do have a good range.
The transparent powder is brilliant but a lot of the make up was so so - didn’t like the tinted moisturiser and the eye shadows are poorly pigmented.
I bought one bottle of perfume which smells lovely but lasts about 30 seconds on. Take their non membership prices with a bucket of salt!

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 20/09/2020 11:02

@Howzaboutye

The primer is AMAZING. And the eye crayons are terrific.
They just slide right off my eyelids

And i do so want to love them 😩

Howzaboutye · 20/09/2020 11:07

Omg that white powder thing is like magic. It's like putting a soft focus blur on your skin, for a zoom call.

I got that type of thing in a beauty box, didn't know what it was.

For the eye shadow pens- you do need your skin colour eyeshadow powder on first. Then the liner, then mascara.

I do love the packaging, it's gorgeous.

Mimimayhem18 · 20/09/2020 11:29

I've been with beauty pie since the beginning really.
The goods:
All the skin care is amazing, I love the serums, retinol and super healthy skin range.
Foot peeling socks- leave your feet silky and peeling provides hours of entertainment 🤪
Candles- awesome
Makeup brushes- Mac quality at supermarket prices
Also highlighters, eyeshadow sticks and the one powder wonder are great

The bad: it's been shitty service during the pandemic.
The very limited foundation shade range- you can't be too light or too dark.
Marsha Kilgore- it's good she interacts with customers but sometimes she's far to business like with her jargon.

I will continue to use them because overall I like the concept of challenging over priced beauty products and some of the stuff is good.

Carycy · 20/09/2020 11:56

I actually like the makeup more than the skincare. As someone who is just getting into lipstick it’s nice to be able to experiment a bit with out spending too much. I got a Matt eyeshadow pallate which I use a lot. Just tried the new cream blush and I like it. The nail polishes and and candles are lovely and make nice gifts. The eyebrow pencils are good. And the liquid highlighter in a bottle is a good dupe. The brushes are good.

In the skincare there are a couple of cleansers I like and have settled on one I get regularly. There is too much fragrance and alcohol in most of the serums so I don’t buy those. Their basic moisturiser and the more expensive moisturiser in a pot is good too for a treat,

I have a £5 a month membership and let it roll over to get a little stock of my basics about every 4 months or so. and normally something new to try as a treat.

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 20/09/2020 15:50

For the eye shadow pens- you do need your skin colour eyeshadow powder on first

Yes...but even with primer they slide right off my eyes

If i put powder over the top it stays in place better...but that defeats the object for me

GrimDamnFanjo · 20/09/2020 16:07

I did the MN trial and managed to pick 3 lipsticks which were basically the same colour thanks to the website !
I didn't try the skincare as I'm pretty wedded now to k-beauty brands which are a fraction of the price of European brands.
I found the RRP stuff really irritating.
One eyeshadow stick - wild violet- I love and keep contemplating signing up for a minimum membership for that alone.

ThePawtriarchy · 20/09/2020 17:22

I really like two of the perfumes. The Christmas kits are good - great brushes, candles and fragrance sets.

If you like Bobbi Brown I’d say you’d like the makeup, some is very similar.

IHeartSusanDey · 20/09/2020 18:28

I had heard amazing things about it and read great reviews on Trustpilot so I gave it a shot....it was massively disappointing. There is NO WAY those products are worth what they say. I did like the face oil that reminded me so much of the Herbivore Orchid Oil but the make up was not good. I cancelled once the three months were over.

W3dontdoduvets · 20/09/2020 18:46

Their totally cringe advertising put me off early on. p&p charges added making it pretty expensive, buying limits and monthly fees meant it’s a big no from me. I’d rather buy my beauty online and know what I’m getting.
