When will DD's feet stop growing?

She's in Y7 and she's a size 7. It's already getting hard to find school shoes that fit (she's got awkward shaped feet and lots of shoes don't really work for her - long, narrow feet, high arches).

Can someone please tell me they'll stop growing soon?! Or tell me where I can get decent school shoes in big sizes?

I can't remember for the life of me when mine stopped growing.

Mine is in year 5 and a size 5. It was very hard to find her shoes that were age appropriate and would fit.

I think DD was around a 5 in Y5 too. I found it easier then - lots of European brands like Primigi and Geox do nice school shoes up to a size 6 or 7 - sensible, age-appropriate styles which they can still run around in. They're a bit pricier than Clarks but I try to get them on sale.

I've had size 4 feet since I was in middle school! But I'm also only about 5f3 and haven't grown since middle school either 😅

My daughter's feet stopped growing in Year 8, thankfully. She's now a size 9 with wide feet. We find Clarks and Pavers offer some good options as well as Marks and Spencers. I think shops are wising up for the need of larger shoe sizes for youngsters.

She has my sympathies! I was an 8 in yr7 and hated that all my friends could get cute shoes and fashion shoes while I had clumpy boys shoes. I was the only one who could run for a bus though! I suspect women's shoes are cut slightly more generously than children's (or there is vanity shoe sizing) because I went down to a 7 when I stopped wearing Clarks school shoes.

Here's a couple of places I've managed to find practical boat shoes. Gabor go up to a 9, wear well and are thoroughly practical. Dr Martens are wide and deep so might not be any good. Ecco go up to an 8, but are mostly old lady shoes. Timberland also go to 9 but are really expensive for school type shoes (they've got some nice ones though!). Zalando also have a decent selection in black leather size 8-9 but then you've got to send them back if they don't fit.

My DD15 has been a size7 for a year or so and is 5ft7’ tall, I think she’s possibly stopped growing now.
I’m assuming Y7 is 1st year high school? I’m in Scotland and P7 is last year of primary.
I personally don’t know anyone who still buys ‘school shoe’ brands in high school,my DD wears Doc Martens which are long lasting and suit different feet.

SBTLove · 08/09/2020 11:20

To add; what shoes would a teenager wear from Pavers? apart from ballet flats, these are shoes my MIL 85 wears!

IvyEf · 08/09/2020 12:03

I haven't grown in height or shoe size since Y6 op if that helps!

rbe78 · 08/09/2020 12:10

I was size 7 in Yr 7 too - and I only went up to an 8, so her feet may be done/almost done growing by now! I grew a lot in height after that though.

Check out schuch maybe? Bit more teen/tween focussed than Clarks

My dd is now 18. We are both size 7 with narrow feet and both really struggle to find shoes. Clark's do some lace ups in women's sizes that are narrow. Otherwise we stick to trainers. Even boots are hard. I have some fly London boots. They seem best. Good luck!!

SoCrimeaRiver · 08/09/2020 12:20

StartRight have boys shoes up to size 7 and 8, and I had them as a child because of slim feet (C width fitting) that couldn't wear general shoe styles. They have a good website and you can measure feet at home - they have a home measuring tool you can buy.

foxtiger · 08/09/2020 19:10

I think my feet stopped growing when I was 12 - they are size 7 or 8 depending on the brand and style, They were considered narrow when I was young but I think they're just average now.

WhereAreWeNow · 09/09/2020 09:29

Thanks. That's encouraging foxtiger.

Age 12, size 8.5, wide!

NewToRenting · 09/09/2020 11:39

My daughter is a UK 7.5 in Y8, with slim feet but wide at the toes. We found black school shoes in her size in Clarks and Geox.

Nonagoninfinity · 09/09/2020 12:05

My DD13 is a size 8.5. I'm keeping everything crossed she'll stop growing soon! She is tall too though. I found her recent school shoes in Clarke's but they were over £60!!!!

katcatkat · 09/09/2020 12:12

We found about yr6 my dd stopped but she was an early developer. Also remenber kids shoes are allow growth room so her actual size is likely to be half a size smaller than the size she is being measured at.

NEE1302 · 09/09/2020 12:12

I've had size 7 feet since Yr 7. You might find they don't grow much more.

sandieshaw · 09/09/2020 12:12

I have long, narrow feet OP and find it usually helps to have an insole in my shoes. It lifts the foot higher in the shoe where it’s shaped a bit narrower anyway.
Any kind of off the shelf insole will do but I personally use the fleece ones as the keep my feet a lot warmer!

Dilligaf81 · 09/09/2020 17:40

My dd is year 9 and size 9 with really narrow feet which makes it a nightmare.
Marks and Spencer are quite good.
Although she did get home today saying her shoes feel tight, where do you get size 10 shoes??

At a size 7 I bought from Clarks, M&S and new look.

EdwardCullensBiteOnTheSide · 09/09/2020 17:45

Well I was always a size 5, into my twenties. Then I found I needed a 6. Now I need 6.5 so no idea what's going on with me, I'm 39!

IndieTara · 09/09/2020 17:58

Op my DD is also 11 and this years school shoes are a size 7.5!

I have no idea! You have my sympathy. I guess DMs or similar but they cost a fortune.
