WHat do you use to co-wash?

I started co-washing at the beginning of the summer. I've been using As I Am Coconut CoWash Cleansing Conditioner but I'm far from impressed by it. What do other co-washers use that they would recommend please? THank you.

https://www.hairstory.com

Wavy rather than curly hair but it has always seemed odd to me to use shampoo which makes my hair squeaky clean but I can't comb it then put conditioner in so that I can comb again.

Saw an advert for the hairstory products and decided to go for it during lockdown while I've been WFH

I love the product and been washing my hair fortnightly which is just amazing. Won't really know the cost per wash til I have used the whole packet, no not any time soon.

The hair story new wash looks amazing, but the price 😱😱😱 £44 for 227ml 😱

Oh, I'm sorry - I don't know why my links aren't working, I've had this before and can't find a solution so you'll need to copy and paste - sorry

Hey @BewareTheBeardedDragon your links are working just fine. Thank you for sending them. Yes, I looked at the New Wash stuff and I'd never spend that kind of money on hair products. Or skin ones for that matter. When it comes to skin I'd rather go for (non)surgical procedures and blow a lot of money on those - at least the results will be visible!

I do find the long lists of complicated ingredients to avoid very daunting - I wish there was a reasonable priced curly girl approved range of products available.

Glad the links are ok - they don't work for me 🙄

Pantene hair biology cleanse and protect conditioner gets some quite rave reviews for cowashing. I've got some but haven't tried it yet as I'm still on a pot of as I am!

Do you mean 'cleanse and reconstruct'? I can't find a 'cleanse and protect' @OhLookHeKickedTheBall

That's the one! Not sure how I confused reconstruct with protect 🤦‍♀️

I follow the cgm and use Tresemme Undone, which has unfortunately been discontinued in the UK. I also really like Alberto Balsam conditioner. It's really cheap too.

First I’ve heard about this.....will it work for thin hair? I imagine it would just go particularly lank.

Another curly girl here although my hair is wavy. I use the Alberto silicone free conditioners, the blueberry one is my favourite, or superdrug own conditioner in the pump bottles - the cherry one smells amazing - but the coconut one doesn't suit my hair at all.

I use the Faith in Nature conditioners and Tresemme Undone (luckily bought a 6 pack a while ago but I think you can still get on Amazon ).

@OhLookHeKickedTheBall thank you. Its cheaper than the As I am but also smaller. I wonder if in proportion they are as expensive...

I am very tempted to try a 'normal' conditioner and see how that goes.

@Notarealmum I have fine hair and it works just fine. You could try by cowashing your hair one day with your current conditioner. Just skip the shampoo. The trick is to 'rinse' your hair first with warm water to 'loosen' all the dirt, product and oils, and then apply a generous amount of conditioner and scrub for a few minutes. Apparently it's the scrubbing that cleans, not the ingredients in the shampoo. Go figure...

You're probably right on the cost per 100ml at full price. Forgot I'd grabbed it on half price at Boots, so definitely cheaper at the moment but maybe not ongoing.

Great, I wanted to ask about this. Once a fortnight, really? That's insane. Do you have the balm as well? I was thinking of trying the balm, but you really feel the hair wash is worth it?

Tresemme undone - also loved this so sad it is discontinued here.
Tresemme botanique was also good but looks discontinued?
Tesco cheap coconut or apple conditioner was great but gave me v bad bacne
As I Am was pricey but amazing, now seems to be drying.
Loreal - bought a bottle of this as emergency standby, used it this a.m. on filthy hair with shwarzkopf hair powder AND dry shampoo in (classy dirt bird). Worked SO well and hair was dried and straightened in ten which is minor miracle - but will the alcohol ultimately dry hair out more?
Not Your Mother's - used one of this brands that picked up in USA, too thick and slow to pump for cowash purposes but great for leave in.
Cantu - have a great conditioner for here but suspect it of aiding the bacne.
Shea Moisture - I wanted to love the two products I tried from here, a leave in and a deep mask, but ultimately found them drying which is a shame.

Really want to try:

Faith in Nature - any recommendations for incredibly thick, dry hair?
the new 'thin' Hair Food conditioners - if I could find the right combination then to wash with one of these then deep condition with the masque would be amazing and affordable.

@BletheringHeights

Do you have the balm as well

Just thinking about putting a balm on my hair makes my face feel a bit greasy. I have the deshabille and the powder, for additional texture.

To be fair, since I'm not really going out at the moment, my hair is always clipped back and I haven't used any styling products. Sigh.

Garnier Hair Food- I use the aloe Vera for normal hair conditioner. Have fine wavy hair- my hair loves it, cheap and can order with on- line food shop...

I have also been wondering if the as I am co wash has been changed because I used to love it but now it leaves my hair dry and frizzy.

The banana hair food worked well for co washing for me but long term co washing made loads of my hair fall out so I’ve had to go back to a gentle shampoo
