11yr old in Age 15 clothes and I need help

Hi, My 11 year old daughter is in age 15 clothes, not particularly overweight, (she may have a little bit of a lockdown tummy at the moment!) but she's tall and broad (she's in size 7 shoes already!). I use Next cause basically they're a godsend, but I am struggling for nicer stuff. Boden does upto 16 but it is extremely limited Joules only offer up to 12.

I'm really struggling. She is only just 11 so still likes all the girly stuff and the teen stuff just doesn't cut it. Any online stores that keep things girly and a little bit cute for this age group you can recommend? Thanks!

Just a thought but why can't you shop womens sizes for her OP? Topshop, ASOS, H&M, Primark all start at adult size 4 and sell a wide range of basics and age appropriate items that would be suitable alongside their more fashion forward and mature ranges . Topshop sell their jeans by leg length and waist size so that might be convenient if you are after denim.

Age 14-15 in clothing sizes of children's depts often equates to ladies size 8-10 (store depending, this was certainly the case when I worked in retail). It may just be a case of browsing through what they have and seeing if anything works and checking websites size chart to see where she sits in their ranges.

Hope you/she are a to find something.

My dd has been in adult sizes since she was 10 (now 13.) She is much taller and bigger than me and in size 8 shoes. Some of the young fashion brands have a plus size/curvy range which we discovered as she has started to show an interest in fashion now and it is easy to shop online.

NigellaEllaElla · 04/09/2020 15:39

Most women’s stuff isn’t really suitable other than basic tops and leggings. Thank you though, I will keep an eye out.

Any in particular that you think are still girly styles and not too teen? Thanks for your reply.

Primark have Harry Potter and Disney stuff in their adult ranges, they often go down to XXs, which is 6-8 so it wouldn’t be too big. They have such a huge range even their non branded stuff has a lot aimed at the younger teen market.

lekkerkroketje · 04/09/2020 15:46

How about New Look? The quality is often terrible, reflected in the price. To me a lot of the stuff is quite childish (obviously not sequinned bodycon going out dresses!)

E.g. a baby doll dress www.newlook.com/uk/womens/clothing/dresses/white-floral-embroidered-crochet-mini-smock-dress/p/656569819

we used a lot of supermarket clothes eg George at Asda, tesco. H&M, although to be fair she only bought boys clothes from there, she didn't like the girls clothes.
Lots of womens stuff in small sizes. Jumpers, tops, jeans, hoodies, PJs etc, all basic women's.
Asda women's had black denim dungaree dresses this summer for example, which she loved, and wore withpink T shirt underneath.
New Look is good, you have to be selective, bu there is plenty there, look for their 9-15 corner which is aimed at teens (rather than women) and has a variety.

To be honest though, at 11, even the kids shops are moving over from girl's styles to more teenager look. Can you identify what it is she likes? Is she, for example, really still after cute Disney pictures and glitter motifs on them? or is it more that the cut and shape is too curvy for her at the moment?

NigellaEllaElla · 04/09/2020 16:30

You're all being so helpful, thank you. She's past Disney but she still likes Llamas, Flamingo's, Sequins etc. She likes bright colours, and rainbow detailing etc. A lot of the teen stuff seems to be grey and black and more grungy. If you look at what Boden does for a 12 year old it's perfect for her, they just stop it around that age. I really need Boden style kids range but for older girls, but I think I'm asking the impossible.

Marks and Spencer older girls range online is great

SpaceOP · 04/09/2020 16:34

Not sure how practical this is, but a friend who is a keen sewer has been known to sew her daughter's favourite t-shirt front onto a new t-shirt in the bigger size. Admittedly, this is just the odd piece because her DD is so attached to the original item, and of course, there isn't the massive cost of buying two items to take into account.

I'm not sure what size White Stuff and FatFace go down to, but they do a lot of very pretty girly stuff that might work, especially tunic style dresses and little floating tops? It's not unicorns and sequins but....

I'd also look into some plus size stuff. Most is just a wider waist which might not help that much but, for example, a plus size tunic style dress in eg age 13 could work as a blouse?

LaurieFairyCake · 04/09/2020 16:34

Lovely unicorn pj's in stock in her size for £9.50

Plus 137 items of clothing Grin

this website might have a few bits?

Clymene · 04/09/2020 16:37

Have you had a look at Lands End? www.landsend.co.uk/Kids/Girls/ix-11409#scroll=1537&product=P_40660

The kids' range goes up to 13 but they're US sizing so pretty generous. The trousers would probably be too short but the tops might be okay. How tall is she?

Ineedtobecalm · 04/09/2020 16:40

Honestly I'd try Primark women's section for rainbows, llamas etc. I'm often surprised they think adult women would be interested in all that stuff, perhaps I've missed the point and they're actually aiming at teenagers, my 11 year old wears their 6-8 size t shirts.

What about lands end or Gap?

minipie · 04/09/2020 16:51

Next! Just had a look and their older girls range goes up to 16 and doesn’t look too teenage at all - eg Their older girl dresses range here features a dress with a sequin rainbow, a unicorn jumper dress and quite a few other non teen looking options.

Grapesoda7 · 04/09/2020 16:56

Could you look on Etsy for Llama, rainbow clothes in adult sizes?

They have loads of unique, handmade clothes.

minnieok · 04/09/2020 17:00

I admit I had the opposite issue but I found kids clothes widely available until age 14, they particularly likes new look

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 04/09/2020 17:14

River island? a lot of is grim but we found a cool jacket and a nice dress in there once.

midnightstar66 · 04/09/2020 17:16

H&M do 14+ which is big on me and I'm a 5'8 size 10 adult.

midnightstar66 · 04/09/2020 17:18

Also joules adult stuff is often much the same as the kids

GrumpyHoonMain · 04/09/2020 17:19

She probably won’t be into that stuff for long at this age so probably best not to spend too much money. I would suggest going to outlets because you can sometimes pick up kidswear designed for the Middle East markets which do tend to be bigger.

Prettybluepigeons · 04/09/2020 17:19

How tall is she? My 17 year old is 6 foot 1 and has size 12 feet but can still fit into age 16 stuff from next.

NiceGerbil · 04/09/2020 17:21

Same here grew out of kids clothes at about 9.

She has adult clothes and I check they aren't too 'grown up'. H and m and miss Selfridge have been good

NiceGerbil · 04/09/2020 17:22

Have never tried next not keen on their style or fit for me so never go there!
