Looking polished on a low income. How?

I read with interest the thread on looking wealthy and polished and i dont think it's something I'll ever be able to achieve on minimum wage 🤣

Is it however something you can achieve on a much lower wage. I dont particularly want to look wealthy so much just polished and as I can only afford to shop high street and I'm really thinking primark, TU, Asda sainsbos new look and the like.

I'm 43 now and after all my life being obese and in horrible relationships I'm finally down to my target weight of 11.5 stone and I'm five foot 7 and I also look after my eyebrows these days, something i never did. You could see my eyebrows coming round the corner first they were that bushy 😄

My hair is home dyed, it's very dark purple and its boob length and I love it but it does need a cut I think.

So is it possible to look half decent and polished on a low income and wearing stuff from the high street?

Is it you...
Whoever she is, yes, she looks actually quite classy. I think it's the hair style too and the plain figure-skimming dress. 👍

Some great advice on here already but imo old fashioned grooming is key and being on a low income is irrelevant. Good hair cut, clean ironed clothes, polished shoes and no gaudy colours and you're half way there. It's about attention to detail really and keeping it simple which doesn't necessarily mean boring. A gorgeous belt or a stunning pair of earrings - don't have to be expensive, just tasteful - will take an outfit up a notch. Ebay and charity shops are happy hunting grounds as well as supermarkets for unexpected little gems. Good luck op. Above all, have fun with your clothes and you don't need to look 'wealthy' some wealthy people look a perfect fright!Grin

Talking about wearing the clothes you buy.
Sorting through my underbed storage boxes I found two new pairs of jeans, pink and navy M&S. They must have been bought end of summer last year as they have all tabs and labels intact. The thing is, labels say ankle grazer regular but they are a far cry from the recent M&S tapered ankle grazers I bought. These are full length on me (5-6) and not tapered.
Label also says denim so they're a heavier weight too.
I'm a bit miz Sad as I have lost weight from size 16 now 14.
Hopefully make some money back on eBay.
A salutary lesson. WEAR WHAT YOU BUY and don't put items in underbed boxes and forget them.

@hellololabells2019, sorry I didn't see your question. I asked my hairdresser what brand and shade she used on me (when lockdown started) and bought it from Sally Beauty. I've also signed up with eSalon, who send you customised shades but I haven't tried what they sent me yet so can't say if uts good or not!

I was just thinking about this yesterday. I was at the playground with the kids and happened to be looking surprisingly together and felt really presentable. I met a school mum and felt like I looked OK, it was a nice feeling.

Then it occurred to me that I was wearing top to toe Tesco and Dunnes. Black half-coated leggings and a coatigan from F&F (both in stock now!) And black trainers from Dunnes.

Probably helped it was all black, lol. And my hair was washed. But I couldn't help but reflect that nobody would have a clue how cheap everything was, and why the hell would people buy expensive clothes these days? Its madness.
