What can I do about my weird wavy hair?

Over the last few years my hair has become increasingly wavy and I don’t know what to do with it.

If I blow dry it, there’s a bit more volume but it’s not wavy.

If if leave it to air dry, it’s weirdly randomly wavy and flat.

Any tips of products for air drying, a hair cut that wouldn’t make me look bonkers etc?

Excuse the odd looking colour in this light, it’s actually mid brown

Your hair looks great OP. I'd definitely go with the wave rather than trying to blow dry it out. Just use good conditioner and scrunch in styling product or leave in conditioner to define the wave. I like some of the Shea Moisture products.

Try a Babyliss Big Hair styler? Helps to even out waves and gives a bit more shape.

I think’ Coconut’ product for wavy hair would be very good for your hair. It also has videos that shows how you do it.

Thanks so much for the tips everyone - will have a look through and get some stuff this weekend and start considering haircuts. Got my new glasses coming next week so a haircut to coincide would be good.

I have a BBH but the wave disappears if I use heat, especially that - must get a diffuser and try that.

I used to use Aveda Be curly, scrunched in when wet, then Elnett Mousse. Again scrunched in over the top brilliant, soft and natural. Great for a night out!
During lockdown resorted to Boots pink tub of Curl Creme!

This happened with my hair too. Always had straight, fine, flat hair. As I've got older its become curly/wavy. So very weird!!Confused

I usually wash and leave to dry on its own, sometimes I straighten it, sometimes I scrunch in some mousse. I only use a medium sized 'blob', but I can feel some of the strands are a bit 'crispy'! I've never had wavy hair and have no idea what to do with it???

I’ve started using fluff ease from lush. It’s really sorted the sticky out ness of my hair. I also scrunch it to encourage the curls and never use a brush or comb which just makes it go frizzy. I just run my fingers through it.

I have shortish hair ATM, layered at back, longer on top. Use curl cream (forgotten the brand) on the top. Wet hands, shake off excess water then put a blob if curl cream and scrunch all over top part with head upside down. Leave to dry. It looks messily 'styled'.
Can do it with longer hair as I did last year.
I've also used straighteners to gloss hair. Shorter one side than the other and tucked behind ear. Very shiny.
I like to use a bit of mousse which lifts the top. My hair is thick but goes very flat on top and bushy at sides unless layers are cut into it.
Yours looks nice...really, but cutting a bit off, maybe 3 inches from the back...may sound drastic but it grows back and will not drag the top down. Also, lots of product weighs hair down.
I do one spray of PS20 oil (really meant for your skin in summer) on one hand, rub hands together then run through hair from roots to ends...on dried hair.

Sorry... it's P20 by Riemann, not PS20.

My hair is similar to yours OP but very thin and frizzy now due to both age (I'm 50 in November) and an under active thyroid. It also grows very, very slowly! I've spent a fortune on products but nothing ever makes my waves/curls glossy and thick - I've always hated my hair but everyone says it's nice. Personally, I think it resembles a very untidy birds' nest!

My hair was really thick up until about five years ago and I struggled to get a brush through it. Falls out mega style every time I wash it.

However, I've bitten the bullet and today made an appointment to have it all cut off short - it's just above my shoulders at the moment. Am nervous as hell but it's just got to be done! Especially as autumn and winter are coming - the damp air always makes my hair even worse for frizz and stick-to-the-scalpability Angry!

Couple of tips from one wavy girl to another (not necessarily in any order):
a) never use a brush on your hair - use a wide tooth comb in the shower and that's it, no more until you wash your hair again
b) use hair spray at the roots with head upside down to give it some lift
c) when your hair has dried, try not to keep touching or fluffing it or it will make the waves frizzy
d) use a diffuser on a medium setting to dry your hair, again without touching it too much with your hands - finish on a cool setting
e) don't wash your hair too often - every three days or even four - if you can
f) only use conditioner if you really have to and if you use it, only put on the ends of your hair or it will be weighed down and look flat

Good luck Smile
